>Australian defense contractor NIOA has expanded its global reach with the 100 percent acquisition of the industry-leading rifle design and manufacturing company, Barrett Firearms.
>In announcing the deal, NIOA Group CEO Robert Nioa said the two family-owned companies came together out of a shared commitment to quality, innovation, loyalty, and mission.
>“NIOA’s association with Barrett dates back to 2008. We have been inspired by the story of Barrett and admire what Ronnie, Chris and the family have built over more than four decades,” Mr. Nioa said.
>“It’s been a story of hard work, perseverance, and purpose culminating in the delivery of critical capability for the men and women of the US military and its allies around the world as well as exceptional products to law enforcement agencies and civilian markets.
we shitposting in .50 cal nao
i'll never get over how aussies ended up with those troy rails. truly master shitposters to kill with those shits.
wtf the auscucks own my state's official rifle now...
and we can't even buy one
Why was Barrett even for sale? Is Serbu really kicking their asses that hard in the 50cal market?
https://barrett.net/support/acquisition-faqs/
> “Sam Shallenberger has been promoted to the position of Chief Executive Officer”
Uhh... guys?
>Shallenberger
Moar liek SHALLenberger amirite?
The hobby .50 cal market is totally insignificant compared to the defense contracts that Barret has. The founder is coming up on 70 years old and wants to retire. They cashed out and are going to ride off into whatever sunset they want.
>Australian
RIP civilian sales. These guys are going to shut down AR-15 sales the minute the anti-gun groups pressure them at home in Aus. Bunch of craven noguns.
Australia is trying grow their domestic small arms industry. They’re even designing their own ARs now.
>Australian designed AR
Oh for fricks sake it's an American designed rifle all these fricking foreigners need to get over themselves. They're going to use 99.9% of the original design and tweak the last 0.1% themselves. Do these companies really think they are reinventing the gun by doing some bullshit change that they are going to upcharge $1000 for? That goes for any company "designing" ARs foreign or domestic. You're not designing shit, you're riding on the coattails of the man who actually did design the gun.
>RIP civilian sales. These guys are going to shut down AR-15 sales the minute the anti-gun groups pressure them at home in Aus. Bunch of craven noguns.
Agreed; there's no way Aussie management would have the balls to deny service to California LE agencies, etc.
Remains to be seen - on the civilian market, NIOA has been the importer to bring in the first of basically every "goofy" imported firearm that works around Australian laws - modern lever action shotguns, straight-pull shotguns, lever-release shotguns and rifles, button-press shotguns. They're not fully "we won't sell to cops what civilians can't get" but they're more based than it might first appear.
>The founder is coming up on 70 years old and wants to retire
This. It's amazing what offering someone ~10X operating profits in lump sum will do. Good for him; just read up on the timeline for this guy and he had a good run.
Gee its almost like virtually ending civilian sales you crimp your domestic manufacture. Have to believe it's hard to scale when military and police are the only buyers.
Anyone know in USA how many guns are bought by civilians vs. law enforcement/military in a given year?
>new owners will start layoffs
I'd agree normally, but not in this case. Those very lucrative government contracts with USA would require USA-based manufacturing.
I don't know NOIA mfg well but based on their website Barrett is the only USA mfg site they own. Moving it out of USA would be monumentally stupid move as they'd put all those contracts at risk. It's actually more likely that they'll use the USA site to base manufacturing of additional lines for USA mil contracts.
t. soulless integration consultant
NM looked it up. I guessed it would be lopsided but I thought maybe 10X. It's more like 100X civilian sales vs. military, and even more for police.
US civilians buy something like 25M+ firearms a year. Even if every US soldier broke their rifle every year it wouldn't require these kinds of numbers.
This is why USA is #1 in small arms manufacture. It's a massive advantage to spread tooling costs over the entire 350M+ civilian population. There's no way Oz can compete with that without massively subsidizing domestic arms companies.
Frick me pic related
Those numbers are bullshit.
Can you imagine that there's not enough guns to arms every adult american with at least a rifle and a pistol?
This. Theyve been claiming ~350mil guns in the US for literally 4 decades now as a cope. I know this because I wrote about the then current numbers being bullshit almost 30 years ago in college.
If I pulled a number out of my ass using atf transfer and manufacture data I'd say at absolute minimum Americans own 750mil to 1.2 billion firearms.
>That's bullshit and a huge variance
Because no one knows. We DO know that the number that keeps being thrown out IS bullshit though.
>I'd say at absolute minimum Americans own 750mil to 1.2 billion firearms
Easy. Every time they have an election, dumb Americans go and buy another gun, more ammo and accessories. When the Democrats win, Americans buy even more, every time.
I'd happily subsidize their small arms industry if they'd fricking let me
Those might be the best lines I've seen on a bullpup so far. Of course it's unobtainable.
It's just an upside-down AUG
https://atlanticfirearms.com/steyr-aug-a3-m1-mud-extended-rail
I'm aware. It's a better looking aug
>It's a massive advantage to spread tooling costs over the entire 350M+ civilian population.
The problem is, they don't all buy the same model or from the same manufacturer.
They don't need to all buy same thing, capital naturally flows around and you just get more and more companies chasing the same market, creating niche segments and overall driving down prices.
Bottom line is more buyers generally lowers prices on any given good or service. And Oz is missing +95% of their natural market.
400M sounded right to me... you think that's too low? According to FBI, they processed 40M background checks in 2020. A banner year, to be sure, prior was ~25M. Assuming average gun lasts 15 years before it breaks and is thrown away... or owner dies and they all get turned into the police, at 25M a year that's a gun parc of about 375M. If they last longer (remember, on average) then the number would be higher.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/aaronsmith/2021/01/04/fbi-background-checks-for-guns-surged-40-in-2020-as-violence-also-rose/?sh=229347f5c4cb
Looked at another way, I figure 1 in 10 people in America own guns, and the owners have about 10 each. Based on my experience w/ gun owning ppl I konw irl. Which works out to around 330M.
Guns are essentially indefinite. Especially in the sense of civilian ownership. FBI transfers don't mean anything. ATF manufacturing data that's required on all new small arms made is a much better way to look at demand. No background check takes place to distributors / ffls btw which maintain large inventories sometimes in the thousands of guns in inventory that can sit for years and still be "new." But manufacture data is filed yearly as a serialization requirement.
>1/10 people own firearms
Not by any survey I've ever seen.
>Looked at another way, I figure 1 in 10 people in America own guns, and the owners have about 10 each
It's more like 4/10
more than 1 in 10 people own guns, but a significant number of "gun owners" one one handgun they never shoot and nothing else
Likely the current owners want to ride off into the sunset.
Everything will be peachy for like a year, then the new owners will start layoffs. Likely in November to prepare for the end of the fiscal year. They’ lay off all the old guys that have been there forever first.
Mark my words. Corporate acquisition OBLITERATES quality, speed, and/or affordability.
This post is correct.
T. Saw exactly this happen at my company.
Serbu and his garage guns can’t even compared to Barrett. Old man Barrett is retiring now and decided to sell.
Although I wouldn’t be surprised if the past few years have out a strain on barter, even with police, military, and international contracts.
Watch the new owners of Barrett stop selling .50 cal weapons to U.S civilians soon. Fricking socialist cucks.
exactly what I was thinking
Then it would behoove an American to start his own business making sweet .50 cal rifles for his fellow civilians, filling the market niche so recently vacated. Perhaps a savvy businessman is already planning his maneuvers this very second.
That is exactly what I was thinking. If I had access to capital I would not only do this I would steal some talent from Barret to do it.
Only 30 year old boomers who played too much COD own barrets. Everyone else owns their competitors anyway.
REST IN PISS
You know literally fricking nothing about Australian gun companies and should probably stop pretending you do.
And especially with this:
It's like comparing Rheinmetall to Remington or whatever the frick.
Pretty sure most people here are worried about them ceasing sales in the USA since .50 rifles are on the shortlist of scary death cannons that they want to shame people for owning. Is it even possible for a regular civilian to own a .50BMG rifle in Australia?
>since .50 rifles are on the shortlist of scary death cannons that they want to shame people for owning
Those who are shaming are not the ones doing the buying. Their opinions do not matter until they are law.
>Is it even possible for a regular civilian to own a .50BMG rifle in Australia?
Yes.
Yep.
you can own bolt action .50s on a Cat B loischence here, old guy at my range brings it out every now and again for shits and gigs.
>thales unironically dropped the idea of selling the Atrax in the US on "ethical grounds"
>you guys don't get it! australia has gun companies too!
I can only imagine why they don't sell to the US and people are rightfully worried about Barrett being sold to Ausfalians you fricking moron
>politicians and morons want to ban .50BMG rifles because they're scared of what they saw in movies
>don't want to ban .338LM and several other cartridges that do the same thing .50BMG does but better
>338LM
I, too, enjoy paying .50 BMG prices for a .30 calibre round.
>50 BMG prices
More expensive actually. Especially if you consider the option to just sling some cheap ball ammo.
anti gun aussies are gonna suck off military contracts and cut civilian sales fricking homosexuals
I REFUSE TO USE A GLOCK I REFUSE TO USE A GLOCK I REFUSE TO USE A GLOCK I REFUSE TO USE A GLOCK I REFUSE TO USE A GLOCK
>Barrett sold out to israelites
It is unironically over. Has the m82 patent expired yet?
Enjoy the payout Ronnie, thanks for your contributions.
Kys Ronnie you homosexual sellout
So how long until they cease regular civilian sales in the name of stopping le heckin evil gun violence?
Soon, It's so fricking over.
I remember THIS very clearly. I saved up $2000 and wanted an Atrax, then learned NEVER EVER. So I bought an MDRx as a cope.
Worse still, we are going to get cucked too because it will be you guys making the decisions. You caved under slight pressure. There's a mass shooting in the USA every month. Imagine that pressure of politicians, Karens and anti gun groups.
>amerimutts can't cancel chimpouts
>auscucks refuse to be blamed for future ones
I do not blame aussies on this one.
>Owner uses muh 2A power to the people gun rights fr fr as marketing
>Joins the NRA board of directors
>sells company to Austrailia.
I'm guessing they are going to end civilian sales
See:
theres a tiny bit of hope that this will help the australian government change its mind on the moronic restrictions on civilian firearm ownership. but its probably gonna get even worse.
bro they won't even change their minds about their moronic lack of restrictions on becoming China's sixth autonomous region
>he gets his news from 2016
>muh china region
bro whats it like living in 2015?
>”lol 2015???”
>peaks in 2021
>implying they aren’t still being colonized
Lol.
Dirty dumb Aussie scum.
You realise that every time a mass shooting occurs in America, support for continuing current restrictions rises in turn?
Almost no Australians want the firearm restrictions to end. You can meet adult, educated and semi-rural Aussies who have literally never seen a gun in their lives.
The cops that got domed in Queensland only solidified anti-gun sentiment.
>INB4 hurrr no I want him restrictions to end
c**t you are a one of maybe a hundred at best Aussies who post on /k/ ever. The country is not run out of off the grid shitholes in QLD
Ausfailia, the most anti-gun noguns nation on the planet.
>t. from there
>Ausfailia, the most anti-gun noguns nation on the planet.
You haven't seen much outside then. We're shit. There are places that are much, much shitter.
See
Also post guns you whining homosexual. If you can’t then I don’t think you’re in any place to be whinging about Australia being noguns when it’s just you lmao
Nicely simple rig, anon - what's it chambered in?
What weapons do australia even make
An evolved version of the AUG for the army, a handful of AR models for police, movie armorers and the select few Aussies with semi-auto loicences, a handful of variously cucked meme rifles for those that can't have semi-autos but want something with inline recoil and lots of pic/mlok rail space. Probably forgetting a few things but that's the main outline.
The price must have been a bargain then, how can a company like this even compete?
EF88, currently working on a 6.8mm AR or EF88 based design, 155mm ammunition if you're a wealthy buyer into that sort of thing, whatever shadowy products the Australian Missile Company produces and more.
A surprisingly large amount of homegrown ARs and bolt/pump operated ARs, and a shit ton of bolt actions and their own unique Steyr design which is fricking rad
>pic related, Lithgow Arms LA 105 Woomera
>Serbu on suicide watch
Can he recover from this?
Inb4 the aussies end civilian sales
Also frick Ronnie on this one. His son was an accomplished firearm designer as well with the MRAD and followed his father's footsteps getting multiple contracts. He's already a millionaire why the frick would he do this? It's honestly saddening.
>all these Americans complaining about us buying out Barrett and keeping it going despite Australia being “nogunz”
>meanwhile FedEx buys Australia’s largest commercial freight company and immediately brings in a ‘No Weapons, No Ammunition, No Components’ policy effectively killing an entire country’s ability to ship guns and ammo
The Eternal Burger cries out in pain as he strikes you
At least Barretts will be a little cheaper over here now, might need to look at picking one up to support Aussie business
This. Americans are fricking hypocrites. Land of the Free? They are some of the least free people around.
Third biggest population in the world
First for prisoner population
"Land of the Free"
Yeah, locking up feral blacks doesn't make the US an unfree country. I know prison is a sensitive subject to you irrelevant aussie homosexuals because of what your ancestors did, though.
>locking up feral blacks doesn't make the US an unfree country.
>black and white prison populations almost identical
>black population also on the DECLINE according to recent statistics
ISHYGDDT. Also didn’t you dumb fricks decide to IMPORT blacks into a perfectly good colony and then have a nice day in one of the worst wars of the 19th century over them? morons
>black and white prison populations almost identical
despite there being 5x more non-hispanic whites than blacks
>black population also on the DECLINE according to recent statistics
pro-crime politicians releasing them onto the streets and increasingly refusing to convict them at all
>didn’t you dumb fricks decide to IMPORT blacks into a perfectly good colony and then have a nice day in one of the worst wars of the 19th century over them
It was literally the israelites.
Based but you guys did fail to repatriate them to Liberia in the first place, which is one of the biggest Ls in history
Lincoln would've done it if he hadn't gotten assassinated.
Yeah, in hindsight the cheap cotton wasn't worth it.
FedEx buys Australia’s largest commercial freight company and immediately brings in a ‘No Weapons, No Ammunition, No Components’ policy effectively killing an entire country’s ability to ship guns and ammo
Frick FedEx c**ts I used to buy milsurp ammo from elsewhere in the country and ship it and now I have to pay twice the fricking price because of that c**ting decision.
> meanwhile FedEx buys Australia’s largest commercial freight company and immediately brings in a ‘No Weapons, No Ammunition, No Components’ policy effectively killing an entire country’s ability to ship guns and ammo
It’s weird how foreign companies can purchase domestic logistic and parcel shipping services.
>GoyEx
I wouldn’t trust them with it anyway.
No bullshit, the courier they bought that used to deliver ammo to private addresses was "TNT Couriers" kek
Still pissed about it, TNT (Thomas Nationwide Transport) was the go-to courier for anything “gun” under the sun before FedEx took over, and somehow Americans replacing the fricking Euros who owned it beforehand ended up being WORSE for us
>Americans replacing the fricking Euros who owned it beforehand
>Raj Subramaniam (President and CEO)
>Americans
americans can be called anything
Looks like no more civilian sales and the resumption of police sales in cuck states
Didn't Australia ban guns? How do they have a gun company?
>Didn't Australia ban guns?
Absolutely false, although we do have California/Canada-tier restrictions however. Semi-automatic rifles and pump action shotguns (not pump actions rifles though) are restricted generally for rural property owners, but bolt actions, lever actions, and shotguns are massive here.
>How do they have a gun company?
NIOA (the company who bought Barrett) has the import and distribution rights to a shit ton of American brands like Ruger, Savage, Kimber, Springfield Armoury, Federal, CCI, and Leupold (plus formerly Barrett). They’re also a major supplier for government contracts now too, so they’ve become a major player with a lot of power that supplies both the civilian and defence markets. They’re building a new ammo factory alongside Winchester to supply the Australian army, and work with Rheinmetall for our IFVs and their armaments. They’re also the biggest backer of the shooting industry that we have, they founded SIFA which advocates for relaxed gun regulations over here as well as combatting proposed restrictions as they come up in Parliament. Basically Barrett is in good hands
We have an estimated 3,500,000 gun owners (not counting all the farmers with SLRs, Lee Enfields, SKSs, and AKs they didn’t hand in), so approximately one in every ten Australians owns a gun. We’re still a tiny country of only roughly 25,000,000 though, so we’re dwarfed by the amount of gun owners in America. I definitely see why Americans think we don’t have any, but we do, just not the same stuff you guys have unfortunately
