>In announcing the deal, NIOA Group CEO Robert Nioa said the two family-owned companies came together out of a shared commitment to quality, innovation, loyalty, and mission.

>“NIOA’s association with Barrett dates back to 2008. We have been inspired by the story of Barrett and admire what Ronnie, Chris and the family have built over more than four decades,” Mr. Nioa said.

>“It’s been a story of hard work, perseverance, and purpose culminating in the delivery of critical capability for the men and women of the US military and its allies around the world as well as exceptional products to law enforcement agencies and civilian markets.

The hobby .50 cal market is totally insignificant compared to the defense contracts that Barret has. The founder is coming up on 70 years old and wants to retire. They cashed out and are going to ride off into whatever sunset they want.

Oh for fricks sake it's an American designed rifle all these fricking foreigners need to get over themselves. They're going to use 99.9% of the original design and tweak the last 0.1% themselves. Do these companies really think they are reinventing the gun by doing some bullshit change that they are going to upcharge $1000 for? That goes for any company "designing" ARs foreign or domestic. You're not designing shit, you're riding on the coattails of the man who actually did design the gun.

Remains to be seen - on the civilian market, NIOA has been the importer to bring in the first of basically every "goofy" imported firearm that works around Australian laws - modern lever action shotguns, straight-pull shotguns, lever-release shotguns and rifles, button-press shotguns. They're not fully "we won't sell to cops what civilians can't get" but they're more based than it might first appear.

Gee its almost like virtually ending civilian sales you crimp your domestic manufacture. Have to believe it's hard to scale when military and police are the only buyers.
Anyone know in USA how many guns are bought by civilians vs. law enforcement/military in a given year?

Likely the current owners want to ride off into the sunset.

Everything will be peachy for like a year, then the new owners will start layoffs. Likely in November to prepare for the end of the fiscal year. They’ lay off all the old guys that have been there forever first.

Mark my words. Corporate acquisition OBLITERATES quality, speed, and/or affordability.

        >new owners will start layoffs
I'd agree normally, but not in this case. Those very lucrative government contracts with USA would require USA-based manufacturing.
I don't know NOIA mfg well but based on their website Barrett is the only USA mfg site they own. Moving it out of USA would be monumentally stupid move as they'd put all those contracts at risk. It's actually more likely that they'll use the USA site to base manufacturing of additional lines for USA mil contracts.

NM looked it up. I guessed it would be lopsided but I thought maybe 10X. It's more like 100X civilian sales vs. military, and even more for police.
US civilians buy something like 25M+ firearms a year. Even if every US soldier broke their rifle every year it wouldn't require these kinds of numbers.
This is why USA is #1 in small arms manufacture. It's a massive advantage to spread tooling costs over the entire 350M+ civilian population. There's no way Oz can compete with that without massively subsidizing domestic arms companies.

If I pulled a number out of my ass using atf transfer and manufacture data I'd say at absolute minimum Americans own 750mil to 1.2 billion firearms.

They don't need to all buy same thing, capital naturally flows around and you just get more and more companies chasing the same market, creating niche segments and overall driving down prices.
Bottom line is more buyers generally lowers prices on any given good or service. And Oz is missing +95% of their natural market.

              Those numbers are bullshit.

400M sounded right to me... you think that's too low? According to FBI, they processed 40M background checks in 2020. A banner year, to be sure, prior was ~25M. Assuming average gun lasts 15 years before it breaks and is thrown away... or owner dies and they all get turned into the police, at 25M a year that's a gun parc of about 375M. If they last longer (remember, on average) then the number would be higher.
              https://www.forbes.com/sites/aaronsmith/2021/01/04/fbi-background-checks-for-guns-surged-40-in-2020-as-violence-also-rose/?sh=229347f5c4cb
Looked at another way, I figure 1 in 10 people in America own guns, and the owners have about 10 each. Based on my experience w/ gun owning ppl I konw irl. Which works out to around 330M.

                Anonymous

Guns are essentially indefinite. Especially in the sense of civilian ownership. FBI transfers don't mean anything. ATF manufacturing data that's required on all new small arms made is a much better way to look at demand. No background check takes place to distributors / ffls btw which maintain large inventories sometimes in the thousands of guns in inventory that can sit for years and still be "new." But manufacture data is filed yearly as a serialization requirement.

                >1/10 people own firearms
Not by any survey I've ever seen.

We have an estimated 3,500,000 gun owners (not counting all the farmers with SLRs, Lee Enfields, SKSs, and AKs they didn’t hand in), so approximately one in every ten Australians owns a gun. We’re still a tiny country of only roughly 25,000,000 though, so we’re dwarfed by the amount of gun owners in America. I definitely see why Americans think we don’t have any, but we do, just not the same stuff you guys have unfortunately

Yeah, locking up feral blacks doesn't make the US an unfree country. I know prison is a sensitive subject to you irrelevant aussie homosexuals because of what your ancestors did, though.

            >black population also on the DECLINE according to recent statistics
ISHYGDDT. Also didn’t you dumb fricks decide to IMPORT blacks into a perfectly good colony and then have a nice day in one of the worst wars of the 19th century over them? morons

              >black and white prison populations almost identical
despite there being 5x more non-hispanic whites than blacks
              >black population also on the DECLINE according to recent statistics
pro-crime politicians releasing them onto the streets and increasingly refusing to convict them at all

FedEx buys Australia’s largest commercial freight company and immediately brings in a ‘No Weapons, No Ammunition, No Components’ policy effectively killing an entire country’s ability to ship guns and ammo
Frick FedEx c**ts I used to buy milsurp ammo from elsewhere in the country and ship it and now I have to pay twice the fricking price because of that c**ting decision.

It’s weird how foreign companies can purchase domestic logistic and parcel shipping services.

Still pissed about it, TNT (Thomas Nationwide Transport) was the go-to courier for anything “gun” under the sun before FedEx took over, and somehow Americans replacing the fricking Euros who owned it beforehand ended up being WORSE for us

Didn't Australia ban guns? How do they have a gun company?

      >Didn't Australia ban guns?
Absolutely false, although we do have California/Canada-tier restrictions however. Semi-automatic rifles and pump action shotguns (not pump actions rifles though) are restricted generally for rural property owners, but bolt actions, lever actions, and shotguns are massive here.
      >How do they have a gun company?
NIOA (the company who bought Barrett) has the import and distribution rights to a shit ton of American brands like Ruger, Savage, Kimber, Springfield Armoury, Federal, CCI, and Leupold (plus formerly Barrett). They’re also a major supplier for government contracts now too, so they’ve become a major player with a lot of power that supplies both the civilian and defence markets. They’re building a new ammo factory alongside Winchester to supply the Australian army, and work with Rheinmetall for our IFVs and their armaments. They’re also the biggest backer of the shooting industry that we have, they founded SIFA which advocates for relaxed gun regulations over here as well as combatting proposed restrictions as they come up in Parliament. Basically Barrett is in good hands
