I played the germany cold war gone hot Arma 3 DLC recently and playing through the Leo 1 missions was comfy as fuck, I don't really know if it is or if it ever was a good tank, but it sure is pretty.
What would you guys say a Leopard 1A5 is equivalent to in the Russian armed forces? Technologically speaking, I know it has dick all for armor even for the time so that argument is kinda moot.
That being said, it probably won't hold up against a tank cannon or ATGM, but what about artillery or mines?
>What would you guys say a Leopard 1A5 is equivalent to in the Russian armed forces?
Probably those modernized T-62 tanks with the budget thermal + laser range finder sight. But from what I understand those don't have as sophisticated a fire control system as the A5, so no automatic lead or shooting on the move.
Leo 1's are kinda a mid-tier option for this conflict. They're lightly armored and under-gunned, but their optics and FCS is better than a lot of the legit soviet era tanks that both Ukraine and Russia are using. Heavier and more modernized Russian tanks will totally outclass them, but a lot of others they're competitive or better than. If the Ukies don't use them in a breaching role and have a less rushed training routine for their crews, then they'll probably do alright.
the T-72B3 would have superior armor
125mm is theoretically superior with modern ammo, but equal at best if its stuck with aged out 80s rounds
speed is about equal
fire control is probably on the leopard 1s side, if they are able to fit it with modern thermals, though the T-72B3 should at least have a gunners thermal which negates the advantage of the leopard somewhat
105 with modern ammunition actually has better penetration than a lot of the short rod 125 (used by everything except the T-90, T-80BVM and T-72B3M)
Particularly a lot of what is likely being used in theatre, which often not the most modern.
I love and appreciate all tanks from every nation and time period. As a fan of vidya such as Combat Mission, Graviteam Tactics, Armored Brigade, Arma, and Wargame series I would love to see Leo 1s and T-62s fight across the fields of Ukraine. No amount of Russia hate on this board or anywhere else will make me not live all armored vehicles. BMP-1is my favorite because it’s just cool despite its flaws.
>A dozen of loose rounds Inside the turret basket >Low protection
New competitor for turret toss competition?
Should be less bad than T-72s and T-64s though; one of the main issues that goes unmentioned in those tanks is the combustible propellant cases that catch fire easily.
105 is at least brass case which makes it a bit more insensitive.
Basically both tanks can easily penetrate the other but Leo 1 has better optics, thermals/nvg, speed & mobility than the T-62.
Though who knows, with all those pictures of the moldy & rusty shells that Russia has been handing out to tank crews, a Leo 1 might actually be able to survive a shitty T-62 round. What shell did the Ukrainian Leo 1's get anyways? DM33?
I love the leo 1. I just like it.
based panzer enjoyers
They'll put ERA on teh ERA, won't they.

t. war tourist
H-HE'S FAST!
He cute
On the other side t-62/t-55 looks fucking depressing
Western vs russki depression
You thought "the Cold War is back" was a metaphor?
Looks like SOVL is back on the menu boys!
>half a century
>almost street legal
Does it have turn signals? Or does it suffer the usual lack of them like everything else German on the road?
>Does it have turn signals?
How is that even a question??
The Leo1 looks a lot like the platonic ideal of a tank.
Its really strange that leo 1 looks like idealized panzer iv and leo 2 as tiger
>leo 1 looks like idealized panzer iv
it looks like a modern panther

I would say an average t-72 is equivalent to a fully modernized leo 1a5

Quintessential "tank" from Western POW vs quintessential "tank" from a ex-Soviet POW
Truly a battle to find out which is the tankest tank of them all
They are crewing them with prrisoners?
They probably meant POV
They are crewin the tanks with VIRGINS???
The Ukrainians might be, but the Russians make sure every conscriptovich gets raped nice and good before they send 'em off to become cosmonauts.
leo 1a5 zr.2023 kontakt-1 edition when?
KINO
>Modern Warfare is just Team Yankee

Jesus fuck, really?
M900 is not far from BM-46, at least against 0° plate.
Its better than BM-42 which is probably more common.
>next months will be mostly pic related from ukr blowing up one after another because our mines or being hunted by ka-52s
I can't wait :
Trash tank
Explain.

plus there would be no bradley without the BMP to kickstart its development
Yes! This is true. Helps to have competition to drive development.

Turret tossing? Probably not.
But we will probably see the front blown out like a flower just like those Turkish 2A4's.
Lancet will rape them, or any drone with antitank grenade.
Some m60s in the mix would be kino
Maybe some cameraman would catch the cupola machine gun at work!

If the Ukies are getting leopard 1s, why doesn't the US look into giving them M60 Pattons?
