Iran released footage of their suicide drone in action with what appears to be quite a high explosive payload.
When you slow the video down you can see the explosives are clearly inside the target and detonated before the drone even hit.

In April 2021, the Australian Army directed that Elbit's battlefield management system be withdrawn from use by 15 May. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that this action was taken due to concerns about the system's security. An Australian Financial Review columnist stated that the security problems comprised "a “backdoor” security vulnerability reportedly uncovered by the Australian Signals Directorate". The Australian Defence Magazine also reported that the system had failed two security milestones during 2020. Elbit denied that the system posed any security risks.

There's a vid going around where some Ukrainians straight up jacked a Russian drone, and the operators promptly bug out because they know the drone is going to be used to trace them for a strike.

That's just part of what some of their given anti-drone systems can do iirc. Reminder that Russia was given backdoor software by DJI to track Ukrainian drones since Day 1, so Russia has some capabilities that shouldn't be scoffed at. But I suspect some of these anti-drone systems may utilize one or two of those backdoors.

Iran’s modern drone program dates back to the 1980s yet they’re still far behind any western tech, or even Chinese and possible Russian tech.
People always talk about Russia or china being paper Bears or Tigers but Iran to be the biggest paper façade of them all. Sure they’re good at subversion and causing issues for their enemies in Iraq, Syria, etc, but their parish status has been a great strain on them. Drones, rockets, and occasional mock ups to show the world. They can’t even get their nuclear program up and running with them help of allies and acquaintances after all these years.
Mossad and foreign intelligence runs rampant and much of their populace wants to break from the nation or go against it. From Kurds, Arabs, Azeris, Baluchi, etc.
what a mess of a state, at least their revolutionary aestheticism was on point

I wonder, if Iran decided they needed nukes urgently, would North Korea be willing to sell a handful of warheads?

        Anonymous

I think the transfer of nukes would be difficult to say the least when both nations are observed under the microscope. Iran has been working to build its own, purchasing some from North Korea would be a deterrent but Iran still needs to supply its own for self sufficiency and for the sake of saving face while also proving to the world it can do such things such as nuclear science on its own.
Plus having its own nuclear program means Iran can supply itself with its own nuclear power, great for a nation of tens and tens of millions.

Submarine transfer. It could be loaded and unloaded in covered submarine pens, and the US would be pushing hard against maritime law if they forced it surface with depth charges. Freedom of navigation goes both ways, as we saw with Iranian gasoline shipments to Venezuala.

        Anonymous

        >would North Korea be willing to sell a handful of warheads?

Almost certainly not. North Korea only has a small number of warheads (low hundreds at most, likely no more than a few dozen kept operational and ready for launch at any given moment). Nowhere near enough to protect them from America's murderous wrath if North Korean fissile material gets found in an Iranian bomb.

If Iran wants the Bomb, it needs to build one on its own.

Actually the relationship between Iran and Ukraine runs deep. Before Ukraine firmly positioned itself in the western camp, Ukraine supported Iranian heavy industry when no one else, not even the Russians, wanted to.

That's what I was alluding to actually. Iran and Ukraine have historically enjoyed a good rapport. Iran refused to recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea, despite being Russia's most important Middle Eastern ally after Syria. Even that UA airliner being shot down over Tehran in early 2020 was met with a mostly muted response from Ukraine and was largely swept under the rug as a most unfortunate accident. Similarly, despite their constant foot-stomping about how they're going to wipe the Israeli-American Satan off the map, Iran has never expressed displeasure at Ukraine's President Zelensky for being a israelite.

Opposition to Russia isn't even confined to a single ideological camp in Iran either. Sadegh Zibakalam and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who are on virtually opposite ends of the Iranian political spectrum, both loudly denounced the invasion. Iran couldn't even bring itself to vote against condemning the Invasion of Ukraine in the United Nations and chose to abstain instead. And let's not forget that Iran itself was invaded by the Soviet Union in 1941.

Frankly, the Iranian government's "support" for Russia seems to be relegated to the absolute bare minimum required to maintain a functional relationship and offloading shoddy and untested equipment onto them for a quick buck and field testing to improve the performance of the next generation of drones.

          Anonymous

          >Iran refused to recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea, despite being Russia's most important Middle Eastern ally after Syria.

Iran and Russia were never allies. From Russia's perspective their relationship with Israel is closer than it is with Iran, because the two actually share dual-citizens and diaspora and have a lot of trade. Russia also sells weapons to Gulf Arab regimes and their allies like Egypt and warlord Haftar.

Russia only treats Iran as a buffer against the US. Russia only sold Iran some weapons during the Iran nuclear deal but never after the US unilaterally pulled out from it, even though it was still valid for the other signees.

          >Even that UA airliner being shot down over Tehran in early 2020 was met with a mostly muted response from Ukraine and was largely swept under the rug as a most unfortunate accident.

Aside from the plane and its crew itself, none of the victims were Ukrainian. They really didn't have much to go after Iran for, aside from trying to get them to pay damages for the plane.

          >Similarly, despite their constant foot-stomping about how they're going to wipe the Israeli-American Satan off the map, Iran has never expressed displeasure at Ukraine's President Zelensky for being a israelite.

Iran has the second-largest israeli population in Asia after Israel. They've never been anti-israeli, only anti-Zionist. There are israeli officials in Iran's government, and even cemeteries with Iranian israelites who fought in the Iran-Iraq War.

          >Iran couldn't even bring itself to vote against condemning the Invasion of Ukraine in the United Nations and chose to abstain instead.

Most developing countries abstained, including many of the US' own allies.

Last time I heard, a lot of Iranians, especially the younger and more educated (i.e. exactly the kind of person who would be in a position to sabotage drones), were in adamant opposition to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and even shouting "Death to Putin" in front of the embassy.

        >They intentionally shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet a few years back out of impotent seething after the US droned some general

That jet was full of Iranians, not Ukrainians. The AA radar was on and the weapon was moved or aimed in a manner it shouldn't have been. It was fired by accident, not "intentionally".

        >Iran’s modern drone program dates back to the 1980s yet they’re still far behind any western tech, or even Chinese and possible Russian tech.

Because of sanctions, Iran is unable to procure hi-tech or precise manufacturing equipment. So while their weapons are functional they are often less refined or have various shortcomings due to circumstance.

Iran's weapons development over the past 30+ years is still very impressive, and technically they are one of the largest defense manufacturers. Most countries are so inept at making weapons but Iran actually does a good job in comparison, especially given the limitations.

        >Mossad and foreign intelligence runs rampant and much of their populace wants to break from the nation or go against it. From Kurds, Arabs, Azeris, Baluchi, etc.

Compared to what it could have been, Iran is actually pretty well defended and secure. In an alternate scenario, there could be assassinations and bombings every week, instead it's only a handful a year. Iran is also a huge country where fully defending the border is impossible.

Iran not being in a civil war or being invaded and occupied, unlike it's immediate neighbors is clear indication of what the alternate could have been. They've done a great job at security and defense in that light.

I don't think Russia has even gotten Iranian drones, at least not yet.
So these reports of Russia not liking the performance of Iranian drones seem to be an attempt to cover for the fact that the initial reports were bullshit in the first place.

If anything, these unfounded claims may have given Russia and Iran ideas to actually transact in the weapons, but Iran would need something in return too. They need fighter jets, tanks and armored vehicles.

There's no advanced IP to protect. It's badly reverse-engineered American and Israeli tech.
