There's these things called radios that stealth aircraft use when they don't need to be stealthy.

What's even the purpose of these "concepts" anymore. Just throwing shit at the wall and see waht sticks, is there actually a need for this? This seems like an extremely niche idea to burn money and grift the shit out of the US taxpayer.

This plus you keep your ideas guys coming in the office/ logging into Microsoft Teams when they aren't needed for anything important. Gotta invest in creative talent if you want creative talent.

I mean yeah our infrastructure is shit and healthcare is a joke (death to all commies) but if the US is gonna be popping the 3 Gorges Dam and genociding chinks tanker aircraft are a weak link in that kill chain. the chinks may not be able to target F35s, B21s, or F22s but they can sure as shit target the tankers they depend on.

Air to Air missiles are getting extremely long ranges now, so the tanker does need to be harder to target.
Defense contractors need to keep certain groups on the payroll, so the government funds R&D work to ensure the team stays together for when they are needed.

Tanker aircraft are a massive weak spot for any forces operating in the Pacific. The Chinese have 200 mile range missiles now that can't hit fighter sized targets but will have no issue with tankers. Considering that Chinese J-20s are stealthy enough that they won't be easily detectable at that range, it makes sense that low observable tankers are a priority for the US military at this point

long range missiles are actually considered a large threat to tankers. Chinks have serviceable stealth planes if you haven't forgotten. These wouldn't replace tankers, but compliment them near the front lines in high risk areas

I thought this particular project was Boeing's baby, or have they fricked up so badly on the commercial end that even Phantom Works is feeling the squeeze?

Even if shit was going perfectly for Boeing, they couldn't possibly build a stealth tanker on their own. They don't have the expertise.

I still maintain Boeing/Northrup Grumman will jointly be awarded a next-generation stealth MRTT program. Ain't no other way that requirement is being filled for the air force, and even then it's going to be a fiasco.

it's a shame there's no such thing as "planning" involved in military operations, otherwise they could coordinate that sort of thing before hand. oh well

Because it uses (currently) impossible lasers to propelle it and I can't see the main body shaft surviving any game logic, too thin.

that looks pretty cool but those spaceplanes look like they're dangerously close to the spheres on takeoff, assuming they even clear them at all
and how are you supposed to dock them back onto the colony ship?

Seems like a bespoke stealth tanker like this would be FAR more expensive than the usual converted civilian design. Seems like it'd make more sense to just give your front-line stealth platforms more internal range or drop tanks or whatever.
