Weird, i was expecting him to cover the current hottest happening which is the fall of bakhmut. Maybe touching on the tactical+strategic mistakes of ukrainian forces and lessons to be learned from them. I'm sure this is probably because he still doesn't have enough materials on the topic and not because he's extremely biased towards ukraine, hmm

      Anonymous

How do you expect him to produce an hour long video on that topic in 2 days?

      Anonymous

The videos start being made weeks before they are posted. Expect a video on Bakhmut a week or two from now.

        Anonymous

Well we have a date for when either Ukraine retakes Bakhmut or Russia takes Chasiv Yar, it'll be two days after he releases another video analyzing the Bakhmut situation.

How does one achieve enough autist knowledge to be able to put together an hour long power point?

Im too lazy to read past an article and then we have people such as Perun

He said has a degree in economics and worked for military procurement. I think that gives a good enough explanation.

Is there a known or theoretical way we can clear debris in orbit or at least not get shredded when it collides?

      Anonymous

There are a number of companies working on possible solutions but they're all more or less in the start-up phase. For now the only option's to use robust materials when building satellites but that increases weight which in turn increases launch cost which ultimately decreases feasibility.

That's what makes kinetic ASAT so damn dangerous; there's no reliable and reasonably priced way of removing debris.

      Anonymous

space debris is not the threat that people think it is. if you are in the same orbit as space debris, then you are going the same speed as it.

        Anonymous

Yes, but for every orbit there are infinite intersecting orbits.

        Anonymous

Orbits take time to stabilize. Crossing orbits is dangerous. The debris settling into their new orbit is dangerous. Debris striking other debris creates danger, etc.

Even slight differences in orbits, which will happen on impact, means that objects can collide at hundreds of km/h speed difference.

I’d rather not find out what happens when even a tiny bit of metal hits my spacesuit with 300km/h

It depends on the type of debris.

      >Either bring to surface or push into burn trajectory

Other than that no, but debris hasn't become a huge issue yet.

Haven't finished watching it yet, does he talk about the viability of moon lasers?

Lasers on earth have the problem of having to go through atmosphere, and lasers on satellites have to do something about all the heat they generate, but moon lasers fix both of those problems so you could probably mission kill as many satellites as you want without making any extra space debris.

      Anonymous

He mentions the difficulty of Earth-based laser systems and that some groups are pursuing space-based laser options as well, but not on the moon specifically.

      >you could not invest in this at all and be absolutely fine
I have a hard time believing that. If you're bumfrickistan fighting hillbillyland, sure it doesn't matter but anyone trying to compete on a global scale needs to consider it at least.
Reconnaissance satellites and GPS equivalents are important in modern warfare, denying the enemy its use would be valuable as is having your on system and protecting it.

For frick's sake, if you're a country like NK then why wouldn't you just launch a couple dump trucks of gravel into orbit and induce kessler syndrome? You'd remove all the threats to yourself, show the world you're based and make everyone more interested in repairing the damage than dealing than you.

          Anonymous

Well you'd instantly make enemies of every country with space ambitions and those who benefit from space based applications.

And? So what? What are they gonna do? What you gon do, bish? If I'm NK, I have a treaty with China that says you declare war on fricking China if you hit me. What will you do?

Support China in their special operation to topple the regime that also destroyed their satellites.

  24. 10 months ago

Why can't you just throw big magnets at other satellites, solves the space junk problem by having the new object attached to an already existing one. And the fact that its a magnet should ruin the satellite itself

      Anonymous

better yet, just release a massive amount of magnetic gravel. itll all clump up and fall out of orbit eventually

      Anonymous

      >Why can't you just throw big magnets at other satellites
magnetic force falls off quickly in intensity, you're going to have to basically hit your target resulting in explosion
