New image of KF-21N has emerged

>KAI's booth at DX Korea 2022 has presented a mock up of KF-21N, the navy version of KF-21.

>South Korea ditched its previous plan to purchase F-35B only to go full CATOBAR this time.

This anon is spot on, SK not only going full board on a 60,000 ton carrier, its coordinated with the KF21N

Interestingly, the F35 only uses US made weapons and is not compatible with anything else, the KF21 can integrate multiple weapons to include from the UK, Germany and Israel among others, this is a critical component that is going to result in many countries selecting the F35 over the KF21 even the countries with carriers now that the KF21N is confirmed

              Anonymous

It's not that the F-35 CAN'T integrate it, most countries just don't want to pay for lockheed to develop that capability.

Isreal certainly did with their F-35's.

According to the PH embassy, 173 Filipinos in general went dead or missing in Korea. Ranked 14th in death count.

Assuming one whole F-21 is $100M. Divided by 173 would be $578k. I can see the case for donating half an F-21, but that's about it.

Them giving PH the UH-1s helped streamline the radar deal which was extremely favorable to Japan. Part of the deal is that Japan has remote access to all the radar systems sold to PH. The Philippines basically paid Japan to become a remote monitoring station.

As someone from SK this is just posturing from the government to appeal to shipbuilders and the public.

The CV program got dropped because the price of a CV and it's battlegroup are too high, we don't have the people or money to make it happen as soon as we want or at the scale we want.

So it was ditched. Instead we're going to parade around a "stop-gap"/bigger CV program that will never start but will satisfy voters/shipbuilders due to it's "Potential". It's a macguffin.

The best plan would be to make a stretched Dokdo class (With an extra lift and a ramp) and then operate F-35B's. This will need minimal extra R&D costs, the tooling/manufacturing for the Dokdo class can simply be adapted/updated and we can start training seamanship/F-35B's with the current Dokdo's.

KF-21 is a weird fighter in that it's worse than the F-15 and F-35, and is just another logistical piece to contend with the KF-16. More F-35's would be a much better use of our time, especially if we can get some sort of work-share/refurb deal.

The KF-21 will not perform well on the export market. It's projected to cost as much as an F-16V and almost as much as an F-35. Yet comes with the same stipulations (American/Lockmart usage guidelines).

    tl:dr
    >CVX was out of scope
    >Nu-CVX is just a macguffin
    >Only reasonable solution is Dokdo/Modified Dokdo class.
    >KF-21 is in marketing overdrive to pay for everything

Anybody from South Korea knows that politics, big business and the military are intertwined, the textbook definition of a military industrial complex

What does it mean when SK just announced the largest defense budget ever for 2023 of 57+ billion won? That is obviously to intended to have a world class military system but to also enrich the big businesses who then support the politicians, etc.

The CV program is inevitable primarily BECAUSE its a mega project not despite it. In South Korea this effectively guarantees its going to happen. Pundits were claiming the same thing before the KF-21 project was approved, costs to much, too difficult easier to buy from the US like thirdies, uncertainties on export market potential, etc. And yet the KF-21 had a design to skies development cycle of under 10 years, lightspeed by MIC combat jet development standards that typically takes 20 to 30+ years. Also, importantly should be noted that the US business ties with SK are a critical component here and why the US and LM supported the KF21. Do you really think these stakeholders are going to walk away from billions of dollars of enrichment because a few nerds on random internet forums have differing opinions?

The export potential of the KF21 is going to exceed 1000 units, its almost a certainty at this point given there are over 50+ countries that are confirmed to have it on their wish list. Fighter jet systems are operational for 30+ years, the F16 has been around for 50 years and the F4 over 70 years and yet they are still operating and selling. The KF21 will easily surpass the 1000 unit target in its life cycle. Even the FA50 which was designed as a trainer is selling more than any combat fighter other than the F35. What countries determine they need and want is usually different from what the typical MIC aficionado likes.

tl:dr Both the KF21 carrier version and the medium carrier are effectively 100% certainties at this point.

        Anonymous

        >tl:dr Both the KF21 carrier version and the medium carrier are effectively 100% certainties at this point.

Medium carrier will probably be $5 to $10 billion, so yes SK can afford this. SK has a defense budget as large as France despite having a lot less population.

For 2023, here are the defense budgets:

          SK: 57 trillion won = $41 billion = $792 per capita
          France: 44 billion euro = $43 billion = $646 per capita

This is despite the USD crushing the euro and won, the yen is getting destroyed on epic levels.

        Anonymous

        >The export potential of the KF21 is going to exceed 1000 units
No the frick it doesn't. Who the frick is going to buy the KF-21 in such large numbers? Everyone that can afford a large number of jets is buying American.

There aren't enough small countries with an air force to even THINK about 1000+ export sales, at best you're probably looking at 300-500 and that's generous.

SK already order 120, this will eventually get to ~300

European nations will acquire at least 250
Middle eastern/north african nations will acquire at least 250
SEA will acquire at least 100
Latin America will acquire at least 50
Australia, NZ, Canada will acquire at least 50

This is an extremely conservative assessment by research analyst that cover KAI stock

Who? Anyone with big pockets is buying American.
            >SEA will acquire at least 100
            Who? Most can't afford it.
            >Latin America will acquire at least 50
            I could maybe see this.
            >Australia, NZ, Canada will acquire at least 50
Lol, why would Australia and Canada when they're already both committed to F-35s and are deeply ingrained in the American MIC already?

there are currently no KF-21 orders outside of SK and Indonesia. The Philippines are looking at it, but they realistically can't really afford it and would rely on SK gibs to buy them.

            Again, 300-500 at best.

Countries that are likely to buy the KF21

Europe: Poland, Estonia, Norway, Finland, Czech, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Portugal, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Turkey

Middle east/north africa: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Egypt, Iraq

SEA: Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore

Latin America: Argentina, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay

Australia is almost guaranteed to buy KF21s, US/Australia/SK is extremely tight in the MIC space, Canada is a maybe because they really dgaf at all about defense since the US is their neighbor so they know the US, NZ needs something and will end up getting the KF21

Its going to be 1000 before 2040, and potentially 2000+ before the KF21 is no longer manufactured which will probably be around 2070 to 2080

The KF21 is called a baby raptor, the F35 and the KF21 are complementary not competing products, nobody is getting the F22 in the foreseeable future so you can figure out the rest

                The FA-50 is a mini F-16
The KF-21 is a stealthy F-16, with an internal weapons bay it's basically an F-16 turned 5th gen.

It's not an F-22 and you're huffing copium if you think it is.

Da fuk you talking about its bigger than an F35 moron

Its almost the size of an F22 raptor, and the KF21 nickname is literally baby raptor, this is what everybody in the MIC sector to include LM and KAI call it, the only place where there are comparisons to an F35, F18 or F16 are on a few internet forums with maybe less than 100 active anons

What kind of moron believes that it's that easy to turn a jet fighter into a cat-capable fighter?
If that specific part was not Taken into account at the Inception of the plane, it's ludicrous to try to add it on later

Korea literally cut funding for the aircraft carrier from its defense budget. Read a fricking book.

How fricking stupid are you? lol

It was all a set up by the Korean MIC, they cut funding for the LIGHT aircraft carrier because 20,000 ton light carrier like Japan has does nothing + they bought 20 more F35As instead of F35Cs since the F35Cs are a watered down version of the F35As.

So last week KAI announced the KF21 cv version and this week the government announced plans to develop a 60,000+ ton MEDIUM carrier

      Get it now moron?

They were never planning on F-35C since you can't use an F-35C on a small 20,000-ton light carrier.

The plan was to run F-35Bs like japan does on their light carriers (converted helicopter destroyers).
