Should have called it after a bull instead of a snake.

They look pretty shitty. And I say that as someone who likes how the nu-Pythons look (aside from the horrible grips).

Doesn't Dan Wesson already make a Kodiak model firearm? Is the name too vague to be copyrighted?

They have a pistol called the Kodiak but it's a 1911 style 10mm handgun. Unless they could prove that colt was trying to fool consumers into buying their gun due to the similar names, which they obviously aren't, then there isn't really a case.

CZ is moronic and instead of fixing Colt, Colt took over them instead.

Horrible names, hideous bear claw emoji rollmark. Ported barrel magnums are awesome but Olt in their infinite wisdom fricked it up by making them look and sound stupid. There's still time to rename the Grizzly and the Kodiak the Python Elite and the Anaconda Elite, respectively (since that's what they are - fancier versions of the premium snake guns). The Colt Python says "Python" on the barrel and the Colt Anaconda says "Anaconda" on the barrel. These rollmarks are extra stupid since they imply "Colt Colt Grizzly" and "Colt Colt Kodiak." As for the Viper, nobody asked for it, and it was originally in .38 special.

Why can't Colt just stick to the formula that works and re-release revolvers people actually like with features they want, sans the stupid names and emojis?

If there are any Colt stooges reading this, please forward this to your execs marketing lizards. There's still time to fix this

They're just repros of previously made guns that had production runs of less than a year in some cases. The names are already established.

It's a shame. I would love a .44 magnum with an unfluted cylinder and a ported barrel. But if they're gonna charge a $1600 premium for these, they really ought to be aesthetically and nominally sound. I'm just salty because the concepts are objectively good and I want to buy one but it would drive me crazy that it looks stupid in a way that my Python does not.

Oh god, I just realized what you meant and I looked it up. The original looks even worse. What is wrong with them

They did a lot of weird limited edition guns like that back in the 90s. I remember seeing a factory scoped Anaconda with a matching Mossy Oak finish on the gun and optic back then. I don't know if it had a special name or anything though.

So they got a second chance and they're going to just make the same revolver everyone else makes instead of doing something unique like bringing back the Nagant or the Mateba? Fail.

Why would anyone ever want to copy turds like those designs? Better to just start from scratch and and make something that isn't a piece of shit.

I like half lugs, so the Viper design pleases me, but the 4.25" needs adjustable sights.

Why would anyone choose a colt DA/SA revolver when S&W and Ruger make objectively superior products? I understand people wanting to go with Colt for ARs, Single Action Armys (although Standard MFG seems to better), or 1911s, I've gotten shoot those and they really seem like the best of the best, but these new revolvers have been plagued with issues.

      1. they look really cool
      2. the Anaconda is Ruger-tier in terms of what loads it can tolerate
      3. you've got it ass-backwards—the only reason to buy Colt ARs, SAAs, and 1911s is for the rollmark

I don’t really see much of a use for it, but I think it’s aesthetically appealing. I’ll probably buy one at some point.

The Viper not having rear sights like the others is a big killer. After having fiber optics on my revolvers it's impossible to go back to shitty ramp sights with U cuts in metal. I wish someone besides Ruger would ship revolvers from the factory with better sights than this crud

You know how lots of M1913 rails these days have a channel down their length to save weight? Somebody should make a revolver with a topstrap/vent rib that has a red dot cut at the very back, and then pic rail all the way out to the muzzle with the lightening channel acting as the rear sight notch for a dot on the inside middle of the frontmost rail slot.
That way the gun comes with fixed sights no worse than revolver people are used to, but it also has provisions for installing modern aiming solutions without any aftermarket involvement.

I kinda like the Viper, but I deeply dislike Colt's cylinder latch/release. I greatly prefer Ruger's Push button or Smith's Push forward latch.

Did you try putting your thumb on the latch and pulling the gun forward away from it?
