NEW ATTACKS ON KHERSON BRIDGE

https://twitter.com/JimmySecUK/status/1552038279305986048
>More footage from Kherson. Several sources independently confirm the Antonovsky Bridge is the target.
Video shows like 10 flashes at the bridge, and over 15 explosions can be heard (impacts + AA trying to intercept?)
Alternate angle: https://twitter.com/bayraktar_1love/status/1552046603174912002
RUSSIAN CLAIM: All missiles intercepted!
https://twitter.com/Roberto05246129/status/1552041997623607298
UKRAINIAN CLAIM: Bridge may or may not be destroyed.
Nothing is certain until morning comes and we know what the damage is.
Is this HIMARS? Guided arty shells? Maybe even air raids? My guess is HIMARS

Russia is already reporting that the strike did nothing, they usually don't like to do acknowledge attacks against them that quickly. They must be riled up because of this and those FSB agents getting switchbladed.

Ingulets is good but they have Dnipro to cross

          Anonymous

dnipro can be crossed at the nova khakovka dam. but in order to get from kherson to any interesting place to the northeast (including nova khakovka, davydiv brid, etc), it's necessary to cross the inhulets river. the last russian-held bridge over the inhulets (at darivka) was hit a few days ago, so the russians will have to build a temporary bridge somewhere along that river. there's good spot just north of oleksandrivka, where there was a bridge and decent roads until a few months ago.

            Anonymous

There's a short bridge connecting nova kahovka to the dam, that isn't an integral part of the dam itself. It can be safely destroyed.

based on the video and the photos of the ukrainians repairing the holes, that's the part the ukrainians have been targetting. its actually over the spillway, which is so narrow - roughly 25m - that it's easily covered by a prefab bridging section. I think the ukrainians are more sending a message to the russians with that attack than seriously trying to destroy it.

                Anonymous

You can’t just place a plank across a section of bomber out tensioned bridge and call it good. Concrete is like 10% as resistant to tensile load compared to compressive; that rebar is essential to ensure that the concrete won’t be subject to a load in tension

                Anonymous

                (a) neither the bridge attached to the dam nor the bridge across the spillway are tensioned bridges.
                (b) the spillway bridge is literally 25m from side-to-side. the ukrainians could drop that entire 25m span of bridge into the spillway and the russians can just lay a prefab section of bridge across that entire 25m gap, from solid ground to solid ground.

Russia is a terrible spot now. If Kherson is besieged, Russians will have to come TO the Ukrainians to try to retake it. The Ukrainians will relentlessly blast the exposed Russians with HIMARS.

          Anonymous

If Russia loses Kherson, HIMARS will be able to strike the western land bridge of Crimea. It's right on the edge of its range, but that clearly hasn't stopped it.
If Ukraine manages to capture the south-western peninsula below Kherson, then they'll be able to strike even deeper within Crimea. Possibly even Sevastopol if they max out GMLRS-ER range (assuming they're even given it)

            Anonymous

Just threatening Crimea by proximity will force Russia to pull off from the East, then Ukraine can push the Russian Eastern Front when it's sufficiently depopulated.

Putin cannot lose Crimea, and Ukraine knows it's perfect bait.

2 5 % of their most mass produced modern (upgraded) tank. These things are supposed to go up against a NATO invasion.

Unfortunately climate change doesn't work that way.
While having higher net energy in the global weather system (due to less energy radiating away from earth) does indeed mean higher average temperatures overall, it also means that the system is becoming more chaotic.
So summers are getting hotter, but winters are getting colder, autumn is getting stormier, and spring is getting quieter

          >autumn is getting stormier
Hilarious, seeing as how I'm in Taiwan and we haven't gotten hit with nearly as many typhoons for the last three years compared to usual. In fact, last year nearly all of the water reservoirs were nearly emptied because hey look zero storms.

Admit it, you guys just make shit up -- "more typhoons is global warming! Wait, no, more global warming means fewer typhoons! But wait, they'll be bigger! Category 6! BTW it's totally going to be a drought forever!"

      >cost argument

First of all, Ukraine isn't paying shit. Their payment will be them being a western puppet after the war (which is MILES better than being an eastern satellite state; that was no way an insult.)

Second of all, the US Military budget for 2022 is/was 778 billion dollars. The US typically spends around 400 million per aid package. Each aid package is 0.05% of their budget. A 150k missile is literally (no exhaggeration) 0.000019% of the budget. The US is spending absolutely nothing and having the time of their lives training Ukies to do their dirty work with their fancy toys.

If Ukraine at least pushes Russia back to pre 2022 borders, NATO will probably trip over themselves in an attempt to invite them into the alliance as soon as possible.

          Anonymous

Ukraine will likely end up one of the military powerhouses of NATO, perhaps even eventually gaining the ability to project power beyond its borders via an expeditionary force.

But the first priority for Ukraine post-war is to breed like catholic rabbits.

I mean from an economic standpoint. Western companies, industry, etc.

I can only see them getting into NATO if Ukraine has complete, total victory with it's 1991 borders restored and a fractured russian army. Anything else, I think it'll be one of those "no, they're not in NATO! but we're going to arm and train the frick out of them anyway" situations. 2014-2022 on steroids.

How bad is this catch-22 for Russia if Kherson is beseiged?

If Russia pulls off enough forces to engage the Ukrainians in the South, they risk losing the East.

If they ignore the situation in Kherson, they risk the Ukrainians eventually outflanking the Eastern front by moving up from the South.

      Anonymous

If they lose Kherson, they have to chose between losing Crimea and losing Luhansk & Donetsk.
Should Kherson be retaken by Ukraine, the whole of Crimea is completely at risk of artillery barrages and offensives, and Putin cannot risk losing his greatest propaganda victory.
Alternatively, Focusing on protecting Crimea would leave Luhansk and Donetsk exposed, and should Ukraine move in and recapture those Russia will have been more or less pushed back to pre 2022 borders, meaning everything up until then ahs been pointless.

      Oohhhh, shit, I'm

      Antonovsky bridge is still standing:

Genuinely wondering, why do the Ukies seem so bad at destroying bridges? This thing is barely damaged despite all the explosions. Maybe HIMARS isn't that good against bridges as opposed to standing buildings?

and if this pic is accurate I'm glad to eat crow. That bridge is dead, Jim.

Just put a couple steel plates over the gap, it's gonna be fine.

People are saying this is from today.
Better, but not quite a knockout. Still the damage looks a hell of a lot more intense than the earlier strikes

Defenitely a knockout for anything armored no tank driver would agree going over this

        They WILL drive over it
        and the bridge WILL hold
and you WILL cope, seethe, and dilate.

Alright you got me to respond, so I guess it was 6/10 bait. Have another (You).

Yeah, no doubt. I was hoping for a collapsed section though. Ah well.
Though that being said, there are a few car-sized gaps there, with all their cables frayed and it also looks like they hit something structural. I'd be wary in a Lada even if they fill the gaps.

Surely you can drive a tank over it, if your family wants a car
