I desperately need to zero some backup iron sights on my AR, but there's no way in hell I can do it at my local range because
>can't prone
>range is only 25 yards
What the frick am I supposed to do? anyone else experience this? Not paying a moronic fee and waiting months to be granted access to the holy fudd club with 100 yard ranges
join a forum specific to your state and beg. that's what I did.
Public land, someone you know that owns land that you can shoot on, hunting clubs will sometimes let you if you pay, bore sight will get you on paper but isn't a perfect solution.
You might be able to find a quarry or something you can legally shoot at. I found a few when I lived in WA.
Technically you could zero at 25yds and also be dead on somewhere between 150 and 220, sort of a "good enough" deal. Use a good rest and confirm your zero at longer ranges as soon as possible.
fairly certain the math has dead on at 300 yards if you zero at 25 yards. I know the reverse is confirmed.
Depends on your height over bore. For example, with 2.75" a 25 yard long zero is like 400 yards and you'll be shooting a couple of feet high at 200 yards.
can you find a chair and shoot off a bench? also, just setup an offset zero target.
25 yard zero should be adequate, see Paul Harrell’s video.
Second, you don’t need 100 yards to zero an AR. Most people zero at 25, 36, or 50 yards.
Third, where do you live? NJ or NY? Just curious because it’s unusual to find a range that doesn’t have 100 yds if you’re willing to drive an hour or two.
>taking advice from paul
shiggy
The man who has killed people legally with his very well zero'd rifle yes he should.
Man I live in Kansas and any outdoor ranges are either an hour or two away or the one that is near me is just not that good and not worth a half hour drive. All I got is the indoor range in town.
Just drive out of town and make a day trip of it
Go to a restaurant
Visit a historical site
Bring the wife and kids
I don't know; could be nice
I've been to Kansas btw
Don't you know anyone with land?
Im 21 does it look like I know anyone with land?
You can get them almost on by lining them up with whatever your primary sight is.
Doesn't sound like you have enough brain activity to be around firearms. Just get rid of them and focus on trying to have a normal life.
Not OP but if I buy one of those cheap 80 to 100 dollar range ACOG look alikes will they hold a zero?
Probably not.
Quit being poor and get an actual acog
I bought a poverty PSA M16A4 clone I'm not buying an optic that costs two times the rifle.
Lololol
I mean, a buddy of mine got a chink cog and he said it surprisingly held zero. That is not every chinacog though.
common rookie mistake. Let me put it to you straight. It's hard to sell a used optic, easy to sell a used rifle (Tragically so if it's a poor quality one)
A lot of people literally will not buy a nightforce that's had 50 rounds shot with it for half price.
When it comes to the optic, it's hard to sell a dollar for fifty cents. So you should get a good one, and no, I'm not saying an ACOG, because unless you're cloning, my general experience with ACOGs is that the eyebox is fricking horrendous and eye relief super short. VCOG is far superior. A lot of LPVOs are better too. There are better prism optics, though I can't comment as to which, there are also Red dot sights that don't suck ass.
there is always another range
25 yards is enough range to get a 250 meters and in zero from my experience.
25 yards ain't a bad zero, just gotta know it's dopes.
hike into the wilderness and set up targets, not that hard to figure out.
Ya'll make it so hard on yourself.
I'm assuming this requires having a 1.9" hob? So if you're 2.5", you just do the same thing with that distance?
This will answer your questions and give you the proper pdf. That jpeg was just a prtsc copy and paste for illustrative porpoises.

Arma dynamics also as their own set of zero targets if you want to search for them.
Neat, thanks!
>Not paying a moronic fee and waiting months to be granted access to the holy fudd club with 100 yard ranges
stop being a piss baby
Boresight laser
It's possible to do some weird math that you can use get a 36 target for 25.
Do you have a zeroed optic on the gun already? Because if so.
>Aquire laser bore sight and a piece of grid paper. Make a small target dot in the middle. 2x2 of the grids.
>Do the measurements and math to find where your hold would be at 25 yards with your optic.
>Put it all together. Aim the bore sight laser at the dot. Note where your optic reticle is.
If you can't figure out the next step, you just need to find a place to shoot and zero.
Are you near a national park or blm land?
Damn I'm so fricking glad I live rural holy shit.
SELL IT AND GET A GUN THAT WILL BULLSEYE AT 25YDS.
OP whyt own a gun you can never use? Why go through all that trouble to sight it in when you have nowhere to shoot? WHy not buy a a citrus farm in your state and become a legend!
Do you know what a boresight laser is or are you special ed
Did you know you have to zero those lasers?
Fricking moron lmao
Bore site lasers are trash. The concept makes sense, but I have never used one that actually was straight. It’s fricked.
You can measure feet with your feet, that's why they're called feet. Inches are the inch of your finger as well. Get a ruler and measure your inches, whichever one is closest to a standard inch is the one you use to measure. Measure your foot while on the ground wearing shoes (unless you intend to rough measure barefoot). See how much of an overstep you have to make. A standard foot is bigger to allow overstep so you don't trip while walk measuring. Now you can rough measure distances. Yards are a big step but I don't frick with them because it's hard to step the same distance every time.
This knowledge is suppressed to fake the superiority of the metric system. The imperial system is a better system for humans to use because every human has fingers and feet on them at all times. Not every human has a stick that's 1/5,000th of the equator, that's moronic.
Oh yeah, and then just go outside to a safe shooting area you fricking inept idiot. Don't pay ranges, they're staffed by morons who make up dumb rules that prevent actual training. Only shoot in one spot to zero, you should be moving around when shooting to simulate actual combat positions.
Well just zero at 25 yards and multiply by four.
Consult a ballistics chart for your weight of ammo.
The M193 55gr ball round from an M16 A2 configuration is BZO'd by firing a group of three at 25 yards.
When your group is POA at 25 yards, they should be on,(not accounting for wind), at 300 yards.
You will hit a bit high at 100 and 200 yards.
The trajectory of the bullet flight crosses your line of sight arcing upwards at 25 yards, and crosses it once more on the way down at 300 yards.
Remember that 1 click of elevation or windage moves the bullet strike one inch at 100 yards ,(MOA)...this 2" at 200, 3 at 300 yards.
Use the short-range rear peep sight. Flip it to the other long range peep at over 300 yards.(one of the sights should have an "L" stamped on it...for "Long").
Using this method, and a doping for windage, we Marines would hit Delta targets (torso and head profiles) at 300 yards sitting and kneeling and man-sized silhouette targets at 500 yards from prone position with a good tight loop sling.
AR15s are usually accurate weapons, but they're not sniper rifles. And you shouldn't expect them to be.
They are designed to zap a asiatic torso anywhere from "FRICK me!" range out to 500 yards without hold-over it any of that nonsense.
Again, consult the ballistic trajectory chart. Zeroing at 25/300 yards and your round won't rise above your line of sight by more than an inch or three at its highest point of arc.
You hold center mass, and Hadji is gonna have himself a Bad Day,(not accounting for wind).
Here endeth the lesson from Marksmanship Training Unit, Parris Island SC in the Golden,(and very fricking hot), Summer of 1982.
This was from memory, might have misspoke here or there, but much of this was changed every morning and night at the top of my lungs while standing on a line wearing skivvy shorts and shower shoes along with the other 69 idiots in my platoon.
The authorities assured us that there would be no long term effects from this...
.223 should be zero'd ar 50 yards. Don't argue. To get your zero at 50rd on a 25yd range, put your crosshair 1.2" up from your target dot. Move sight adjustment accordingly until your point of aim at 1.2" above target dot puts your point of impact on the target dot which is 1.2" below where you are aiming at 25 yards.
