Just bought a Remington Model 11 for dirt cheap with the intention of refurbishing it. What is this hole meant for? I thought it may have been the ejector, but it ejects. In fact, the gun functions with no noticeable flaws. I have no clue, and the Numrich schematic sucks. I would appreciate the assistance. Thanks.
A small portion of John Moses Browning's soul is absorbed by ever firearm of his own design. That small hole is simply the portal into which his soul was incepted into the shotgun. Nothing to worry about

You stick a punch through there to tap the charging handle out IIRC.
It's a pin that holds the 2 sections of the bolt together I believe, it's been so long since I fully disassembled mine. If you look at my image above you can see the black pin near the back of the bolt.
It's so you can get a punch there to push the pin out in the bolt for disassembly. Please do not disassemble it if you do not have the proper tools, you will fucking regret it.

I hate John Brownings guns because they’re so needlessly complex. How far of disassembly is too far?
If you do anymore than take the barrel, stock and piston assembly off you've gone too far. If you want the bolt out you're going to have to disassemble the entire thing.
We really take it for granted nowadays how easy it is to disassemble guns ourselves, back in the day you would take your guns to a gunsmith to get deep cleaned. There wasnt YouTube or easily accessible info on everything like we have now. You could go get a book or have someone show you but you much rather pay $2.50 for the local gunsmith to do it right.
I’m not really intending to disassemble it wholly. I’m just trying to figure out what I’m missing and need to fix. That hole was eluding me, but if it’s just an access hole for a punch, that’s not a problem.
Smart idea is to get some oil in an aerosol can like rem-oil spray and just spray the shit out of the rear and just let it drain out. You just need some punches and proper size screw driver set really but a little prior knowledge helps. Thing looks like shit, disassemble it, get the patina and rust off and repaint it with high heat Krylon matte black, that's what I did.
don't fucking do this. take it fully apart and boil the metal to get rid of the rust. check this channel for help on replacing parts. your forend is fucked and needs replacing.
What do you mean don't do this? Do you have an Auto 5 or something to be saying different?
I have done salt and rust reblueing on my own guns and other people's. I would not even refinish a hipoint with fucking krylon.
I've done high heat krylon on multiple piece of shit guns and it does fine, who says anon wants to rust blue his piece of shit shotgun?
op said he bought it so he can refurbish it why would it bubba it with spray paint like a fucking retard?
How is that retarded? Plenty of people rattle can their guns and it works. Just because someone doesnt reblue a gun doesnt mean it's not worth fixing. Not everyones autistic.
plenty of fucking bubbas. stop ruining antiques.
they're fine, just don't be retarded. browning invented the double hook trigger system that is used by like 90% of semi-autos today.
>do the retarded thing and you're retarded
>stop ruining antiques
It's an old piece of shit shotgun that he probably got for $150. You guys are such fucking homosexuals.
maybe a used mossberg 500 is more your speed, retard.
Just because its old doesnt mean it's worth anything
>worth is determined by current standards with no real thought put to a static supply and attrition by retards
No, I thought maybe this was a joke but then read the rest of the thread and realized we have a genuine McDonald's gunsmith over here.
>wahhhh it's old so that mean good!
Post guns
Post your spray painted abominations, it'll be a good lesson in what not to do.
>didnt post guns
Opinion discarded
>/k/ rules are to post guns and if given 'no u' you lose the argument
damn nigga, you really are retarded. You'll reply to this because you're clearly butt blasted that everyone thinks you're retarded.
Nogunssaywhat?
>Plenty of people rattle can their guns and it works
It looks like complete shit, doesn't last, and it only looks slightly less shit on modern guns. Not everyone is autistic but its very obvious that YOU are.
nagger there's only "do it the right way". Spraypainting a gun just because you're too lazy to do a proper bluing process is just being a lazy nagger.
>do it my way or youre retarded
Wow...
>I shit on multiple walls, he can too!
>why would anyone do that?
>y-youre a homosexual!!!
I really hope this is a low effort troll. Also moisture can get trapped under the shitty job you did and accelerated rusting and deepen putting than if you just left it alone. You can argue prep would fix it but anyone that unironically espouses hardware store paint for a finish probably would huff the prep material instead of use it.
>samefagging this hard
have a nice day
I'm afraid to shoot my High Standard HD 22 pistol too much because I'll eventually need to clean it.
Oh and when you do eventually disassemble it be very smart about it. Get a piece of paper or something and write down what every screw and part is and keep them organized. There's at least one "threaded pin" in there too that will drive you crazy if you don't know what it is. There are some springs in there that are very difficult to put back in properly, they are literally held in by the bolt and if the bolts out they just fall out. Make sure you are ready for some frustration before delving into taking this monster apart.
I hate JMB. His shotguns are the absolute worst Lmao.
It was designed in like 1902, a lot of designs back then seemed overly-complicated but really it was hard to make semi-autos, smokeless powder had just been around for like less than 30 years. It's very impressive what John M Browning achieved in such an early period of autoloading designs. The Auto 5 is a very very reliable design just over-built, as was the norm for autoloaders at the time. A design working was waaaay more important than how easy it was for the user to disassemble.
That’s fair. I’m willing to concede the point of the over engineering being a product of its time, however, I know about other designs from around the same time, and they’re not this complicated. I’m trapped between wanting to respect the strides JMB made in gun design, the feeling that he just crammed superfluous parts inside his designs to beat a patent, and the pain I feel today from having to handle it. I will settle for being happy when it works, and being mad when it breaks.
He designed a shit ton of stuff, maybe he was just over it kek. He probably just made shit that worked and he had the mindset "There I gave them the base, if any piece of shit with more time on his hands wants to simplify it then they can I'm done with this."
His shotguns are his worst, especially in the trigger areas. They are some of the few parts I outright refuse to work on. The 1911 has some wonky features, and the M2 also has a couple weird bits, but his shotguns look like he sat down at his table and asked himself, “How do i make this look like it should tell time?”
are they that bad? I'm no stranger to taking apart finicky peice of shit guns from my time in a bad state for guns but that allowed antiques so I'm used to reverse assembling stuff that some drunkard Belgian slapped together in a bicycle shop.
I’m not joking, if I didn’t know better, you could easily convince me that JMB was trying to beat patent rights. His shotguns are so fucking complicated, even the pump action ones. I have no idea what it was about shotguns that fucked him up so bad, but they did, and it blows because his shotguns are some of his coolest designs.
Watch how this guy reblues guns in his restoration videos and thank me later unless you want to do true rust blue. Also that handguard looks like hell; take care of that crack sooner rather than later.

>It was designed in like 1902
It was 1898 and production started in 1902
Op could use a little more info than "just do what this guy does" and a channel link
Multiple of his videos have ratios for mixing various chemicals anon. I can't remember which is the one that he recommends for home use at the moment. I know it's not the best way of telling anon but he only has like 10-15 videos of restoration with rebluing max. Also hard to keep up with his various methods as he keeps introducing new ones to show off how they work and their upsides, etc.
browning designs are simple and full of parts that do more than one thing. it's modern guns that are overcomplicated, mostly because they are trying to avoid patents on simpler designs (mostly invented by browning).
Patents last for 20 years anon, and the dude died 97 years ago. There is not a single active patent of his in existence for any of our lives lol.
It's where you reset the CMOS, you dumb asshole. Did you even change the battery?

I…I just wanted to identify the mystery hole. Why is everyone yelling?
GET FUCKED!!!
