Doing a bit of research for school...
- What kind of food do you bring for a hike?
- Do you use freeze dried meals, MREs or cans of food?
- What kind of material do you use for multi-day trails.
thanks in advance and sorry for my lack of knowledge

Frozen beef pre-cut
Veggies pre-cut
Broth cubes
Beef stroganoff in a can and some rice
Beef jerky
I'm trying homemade freeze dried pasta & meat sauce and seems to work pretty good.
only freeze dried (MRE) i've had is the blåband stuff from the conscript days.
A preseasoned steak and bellpeppers with two precut onions, a small bit of olive oil, some seasoning, pepper, several teas at least two big doeses of strong coffee, two oat bars, 3 litres water, a pack of german caffine choccy and a stack of deez nuts with a little dried fruit to balance out the oats. If this is a long one I'll dice a salad and throw in some precooked chicken with chilli for spice and I'm also in the habit of bringing a single orange along with at least one larger emergency meal that I usually don't open unless rain strands me.
Freeze dried meals are very funny to me. Pay 10$ for 200 calories and you still need a fire to prepare it. Usually I just pack jerky, dry rice or flour if I'm gonna be cooking over a fire, dehydrated fruits, and lastly my favorite canned corned beef hash. I don't care how much it weighs I won't go without it.
I love canned corned beef hash. I've never seen the kind that you don't need a can opener to open it before though
I like to bring ramen
>What kind of food do you bring for a hike?
fruit, wafer candybars and jerky for on-the-go snacking. bread, salted/smoked meats, carrots, potatoes and baked mothafricking beans i cant tell you how much i love baked beans in vaguely-tomato sauce

freeze-dried and MRE are not worth it, they are also larp material. if its a choice between these three its canned shit all day
- What kind of material do you use for multi-day trails?
tp, gas canisters if its wet or windy so we cant cook with fire, batteries if its wet or windy so we cant light with fire, some paracord for setting up tarp/hammock/tent (though i reuse 90% of it), candles maybe, weed maybe, cigarettes most likely (yes, i keep and throw out the butts at home, im not a Black person), vaseline for any chafing, duct tape for leaks on tents and for preventing blisters. if its wet and cold foot powder too, but if its wet and warm i usually go barefoot
good luck on your research, but it would be best if you tried it out yourself, it can be miserable, but its good fun. bring a gun.
I make my own meals at home and freeze dry them. Since I don't necessarily need to worry about the 25 year shelf life for a week long trip, I can use better ingredients.
I have some beginner questions too; i am interested in going on a 6-day trip in the Julian alps around the Triglav. Sadly wildcamping is forbidden by the gov.
- Shall I wildcamp or spend the nights in moronic huts?
- As a beginner, how many climbing meters and km can I walk every day? I excercise quite regularly and am capable of walking 50km on flat surface in less than a day.
- If i wild camp - tarp or tent?
- Where do I get my water from?
Tarp with bivi in the trees or off path. Might get a hard time but you can always get away with claiming emergency.
Unless you're going for specific peaks I think Scandinavia would be better for you, far more lax rules and fewer crowds
>- What kind of food do you bring for a hike?
I bring protein bars and gummy bears for while I'm hiking and for dinner I like to eat a spamy ramen bomb (ramen prepared as normal, then add mashed potato flakes and a spam single packet) Knorr sides are also good with a protein addition.
>- Do you use freeze dried meals, MREs or cans of food?
None of those, though I used to. Never MREs or cans though. I just can't stand the freeze dried meals. They all have the particular taste that I can't deal with anymore. See above for my favorite meal.

Material for what?
>What kind of food do you bring for a hike?
Knorr sides, summer sausage, foil packets of tuna in oil, couscous, nuts, dried fruit, granola bars, oatmeal packets + powdered milk, chocolate and hard cheese when the weather is cold enough to for them not to melt/sweat
