Napoleon and the Grande Armée are teleported to the Ardennes in 1940, a week before the German assault to breach the Maginot Line. Can the Emperor delay the Germans long enough for WW2 France to get reserves there? Let's say Nappy is aware of his situation and mission and knows about shit like tanks, etc.

    >Can the Emperor delay the Germans long enough for WW2 France to get reserves there?
Napoléon would go back to Paris at the speed of light to execute all the traitors of the Troisième Républiques/Third Republic and then go back at the front to slaughter once and for all the german race

The frankish were a germanic tribe. Charles the great was literally germanic.

No. A WW2 Motorized Division would more than likely be enough to eviscerate the Grand Armee. There's simply nothing they had that could touch them in serious numbers.it would be equivalent of the Grand Armee vs Hoplites.

Napoleonic infantry could not overcome 120-1 odds against Hoplites.

They could. Theres not a phalanx in the world that can survive grapeshot

And if they had a hundred times as many cannons that would be relevant.

I don't think they have time to reload enough times before they're overrun by the very angry survivors

i dont think that a phalanx is going to continue advancing when a very significant percentage of their forces just got obliterated

If Napoleonic armies were able to score enough kills with grapeshot to render a 120-1 advantage irrelevant against infantry of any kind, they wouldn't have even needed to bring their muskets. With all cannons blasting, melee combat broke out frequently in their age, so obviously they weren't able to reliably generate enough shock to halt the advance of even an equal number of horses or men on foot, much less over two orders of magnitude more.

Nappy's forces would do better immediately withdrawing to retrain, with the logistic arms and support units like medics transferring to the Maginot's personnel to bolster their staying power.
By the time the Krauts are knocking at Paris, hopefully the Armee would have by then ran enough of a crash course in repeating fire arms that they'll put up a better defense then their descendants, and if successful prove to the populace why he's a better leader then those 3rd Republic poofers, earning him accolades.
You know, if he doesn't dismiss radio and combustion engines for being icky and new.

Yeah nah 100 years isn't enough to completely destroy napoleon's chances, the big thing is if he would be able to read up on the tactics of the time so he could learn how to best overcome them.
Do people forget that napoleon wasn't actually that long ago?

The Germans have machine guns and howitzers, it would be a complete massacre. A simple bolt action rifle shoots like 5 times faster than a musket as is. Cannons would be useless against enemy vehicles because the crews would be mowed down before they even finished loading!

Well as per OP Napoleon is fully up to speed on the technology and situation, so there really isn't a scenario where he marches columns into machine guns.

I wonder what happened to musketanon.
I know one village did defend and fight off the russians using mostly hunting rifles, shotguns and the like very early in the conflict (during the initial zerg rush).

There were numerous instances of local hunters and sport shooters pursuing and taking prisoner or liquidating up single Russians or their small groups that got stranded after their units were hit by regular Ukrainian Army/Territorial Defense during first days. Local civilians were hunting them with shotguns and bolt rifles, dont know about BP guns though. Territorial Defense there is quite well armed with standard issue military small arms so doub they would resort to muskets, but overenthusiastic civvies might.

Napoleon would simply use Defeat In Detail to fight every german soldier one at a time. There's really nothing you can do against that strategy except make really huge supertanks with entire armies worth of troops inside.

So France gets 600.000 fit and combat ready men in reinforcements for which they need to train, equip and update on 130 years of military doctrine developments in 1 week? It would be a welcomed help but overall I doubt it would help them no-more than a morale boost and being able to fill out the lines more since France did have manpower issues.

You're implying they won't try and ditch their muskets for repeating rifles at the first opportunity. Problem would be sourcing enough rifles across France.

Simply trying to get the Grand Armee's organizational structure looking eye to eye with the WWII French Army would be a b***h in a half.
They already had the infrastructure for supporting rapid-fire small arms like machine guns.. Under the artillery arm.

To my understanding, a sphere propelled by black powder cannot penetrate more than it's radius in armor of similar composition to the sphere, and that requires a very heavy powder load.
Now, with very heavy projectiles you can obviously achieve mission kills or mobility kills without penetrating, so that rule of thumb isn't the end all be all.

I mean, just having Napoleon alone would be a massive morale boost to the French. They almost certainly wouldn't surrender as easily.
On the other hand, it'd be a logistical nightmare to train, equip, and feed that many new troops at the drop of a hat.
The most useful thing I can imagine is putting them to use building fortifications and running supply lines with their horses. Or just going full human wave and banking on capturing enough modern weaponry before you run out of musketmen, but that'd be rough on morale and doesn't seem like Napoleon's style. I'd imagine they'd probably be better trained in bayonet fighting than the modern men, at least.

Actually, on second thought, there's another angle.
They can probably sell off a bunch of stuff with historical value like Napoleon's hat, sword, and god knows how many medals to rich collectors and museums, and then invest that money into buying a metric frickton of guns from the burgers or whoever.
Hell, I bet Napoleon could make bank off autographs and interviews alone.

Having the Emperor and his Marshals there would be enough of an advantage to ensure that France would stand. If he can buy them a year to let the Grand Armée get trained up then they'd be marching into Berlin by 1943 and Moscow by 1947. Might go even quicker with US aid.
With him there, we would all be spared the horrors of modern society too.

600.000 men, cannons, highly organised cavalry, and supply routes
    >vs
    7,378 guns[2], 2,445 tanks[2], 5,638 aircraft[3][c], 3,350,000 troops

Disperse everything into guerilla force, and try to pick at some soft targets through ambushes. Just range advantage of the modern rifles, coupled with mg42 would be enough for a very small force to successfully hold any major frontal attack.

isn't the terrain mostly narrow forest roads, difficult enough to pass the allies figured Germans wouldn't even bother trying, where the Germans would be in constant choke-point if it was defended? we only need to survive till the reinforcements get there

Depends on if OP meant the entirety of the grand armee normally cited (2 million) or just it's peak strength.

Two million is a hell of a lot of manpower even if you just have them digging ditches.
