        this
take your pick from any of the following:
        idler
        A/C
        alternator
        power steering

It's the base of your mom's butt plug
It has to be that big so that massive thing doesn't slip in all the way

God forbid you open the hood and try to figure out what's missing.

Looks like a power steering pump pulley. If your Power Steering system is tapped out, the pump can seize, and eventually the pump shaft snaps off.
      >happened to me on a Toyota.

uh, have you tried opening the hood and looking at the front of the engine for an obvious pulley missing?

      it's redundant

        >redundant pully
oh yeah forgot about those, there is at least a dozen redundant parts they just throw into the engine bay

    it's an AC compressor pulley
you don't need it to run the motor, but you do need to bypass it with either a bypass pulley or a smaller belt
if it freed itself, your belt probably went flying off
    guessing your AC compressor seized

      Anonymous

Wrong. A/C compressor pulley would have a clutch on it.

        Anonymous

I have had a truck refuse to start for me because the AC was seized so I know that this is not true for all vehicles.

NTA however the clutch on the AC compressor can seize on.

It's either for power steering or the water pump. One will just make the rig a b***h to drive, the other it won't last long.

Idler pulley. The shaft goes through a bearing, the backside of it there with the splines obviously has some kind of retainer to keep it in the bearing, which has obviously fallen off or got stoled by gremlins to support drug habits.

You know, you could just lift the hood and look inside the engine and look (with your eyes please), and see which pulley is missing.

Not an idler pully, too big, and idler pulleys have integrated bearings.

Plenty of idler pullys aren't big. That pulley may have had an integrated bearing at one point, but clearly it's fallen apart, dummy.

If you had ever swapped a power steering pump that had this type of shaft you would not have posted all that nonsense. There is a special puller that grabs that hub on the pulley, and there is no place here for an "integrated bearing that fell apart".

God damn I hope you were trolling and not a complete idiot.

better view of that type hub

and the special tool that grabs it. once the two halves are around the hub (and a corresponding part on the puller, not shown), you slide that sleeve over the two halves and it werks.

            and...?

What makes you think that type of pulley is used only on power steering pumps?

It's the framulator valve baffle. Unfortunately when they fall out like that it usually means the whole drive train needs to be replaced. It's about $18,000 when it's all said and done (you'll need a wheel alignment and fuel tank upgrade too).

The good news is that we can have it done by 5 PM tomorrow...will that be cash or credit card?

It's been 3 days and OP never came back after the first post. This was either a bullshit troll thread or the vehicle has already been repaired or drought to a shop for repairs. Stop trying to solve the problem and let the thread die.
