submarine loitering denial and sonar pod dropper
initial spotting of downed jet ejection mid-sea as emergency takeoff vehicle always on-deck

also off-military if you ever 'agent orange' a forest in real maritime combat it's the stock vehicle for it

it's not made for combat so it's not designed for combat roles other than fitting "A few requirements so it does just this one role"

we're not cheap, so we use the better things first, because our pilots know you can't go slow and low

Why dose this thing exist when you have the OV-10 Bronco

Why do either exist when the Scorpion does the same thing for just as cheap without being straight out of WWII?

      Anonymous

because you don't have the ov-10 bronco. the line closed in 1986. 1986 was 38 years ago.

Spraying cartel fields now the old Bronco fleet retired with a few in private hands. That's someone's show pony since it's not rocking a centerline fuel bag, has missile rails installed (dead weight even the US left off when I worked them at Sembach AB) and only has two (empty) FFAR pods.

You don't. They're long out of production and service. How do you not know that?

Tucano is the modern alternative or that Piper trainer but manned bugsmashers are obsoleted by drones which not requiring CSAR alone makes drones the winner.

Production lines and procurement feasibility and timelines.

Could you eventually get the OV-10 production up and running again? Sure. Would it make economic sense to do so compared to designing a new aircraft for the role envisioned? No.

Sure, it will "collapse the stack," that is, it combines a variety of tasks previously performed by multiple aircraft into a single aircraft that can be broken down and shipped anywhere in the world overnight via a C-17. Next time boko-niggram or somebody snags a western missionary as a hostage, these bad boys will be overhead performing C4ISR with the persistence of an MQ-9 with the loadout and CAS capability of a mini A-10.
    >realistic use
oh, uh, probably just expending ordnance at the range so the U.S. has an excuse to keep munition supply lines running until WW3 pops off, at which point these will promptly be divested
