My wife fell victim to a predatory parking lot and got her car booted with pic related. I already have several Makita 6.0ah batteries. I refuse to pay their $200 fee to remove the boot, and would rather spend any amount of money possible to remove the goddamn boot myself. I'll damage the tire if I have to, I don't care. What would be the most effective at cutting through this thing? An oscillating multi tool? An angle grinder? Something else? I don't care about noise. They can call the cops, what are the cops gonna do? Unfrick their car boot that I fully plan to cut in half, destroy, and throw in the river that's 1/2 mile down the road? Make me take down the post I plan on making on google reviews and yelp about this shit hole parking lot? Frick these guys. Honestly, the louder and more destructive the tool the better. I hope the parking attendant hears me. If PrepHole suggests an angle grinder and the multi tool I'll do both. I just want something that will destroy this godforsaken thing.

Angle grinder probably. But I don’t think you need to cut the thing in half, there’s got to be a smaller lock you could drill out or cut off. Then I think you need a socket or something to loosen it up.

    Godspeed anon.

      Kevin Van Dam

There’s ones sort of like pic rel, looks like they put a padlock over the end where the socket would go. A good pair of bolt cutters and a socket set with an extension could probably get the thing off in 30sec

      But there’s different types.

Thank you, I've been in such a blind rage that I didn't even think about drilling out the lock. According to google, cobalt drill bits are about the hardest ones out there? So I'm going to pick up a pack at home depot when I go to buy an angle grinder.

      Sadly that doesn't seem portable.

This whole piece of shit is held together by 2-3 bolts going across, if you cut the heads and punch them out, it's going to come apart. Failing that, angle grinder will still cut through it, so either way angle grinder is the tool to go for.
But I'd be surprised if they wouldn't charge you for damaging their property and make you pay way more than $200.

Thank you, sounds like consensus is angle grinder but I'll still take my impacts and drill bits for fun.
      >surprised if they wouldn't charge you
They can frick off, all they have is the plate number and if they try charging me I'll keep the boot instead of throwing it in the river and I'll meet them in small claims court where I'll wave the fricking boot in front of the face of the lawyer or whoever else is representing them, and then I'll follow them to the goddamn parking lot and put a brand new boot on their car before they can pull away.

Yes cobalt is the best, but they’re brittle, so make sure you keep them straight. But if it’s a padlock, a pair of bolt cutters will cost about as much as good cobalt bits so you’re choice.

Remember when drilling steel, low speed and firm pressure and a couple drops of oil if you can.

Also I'm aware the lock could be picked with effort or there is probably a standard key you can buy that would unlock these. I want something I can buy today at Home Depot, and something that will destroy the boot in the process. Even if I could buy the key today, I wouldn't. I would still do whatever I could to destructively remove this thing as the parking attendant watches.

Lockpicklawyer has a lot of fun just blowing things open with a ramset after he effortlessly picks them. You would also be fine with a grinder, but they sap a battery in quick fashion.

      Anonymous

Pick the lock, check lockpicking lawyer as someone else mentioned. Then instead of destroying the book there, toss it in your car and drive off with it. Cut it up at home at your leisure, then return it piece by piece by throwing it at them.

No watching a video will not allow you to go and pick that lock.

Angle grinder one battery, that is stamped sheet metal. A sawzall will also work fast.

Depending what it is, if it’s a super shady predatory place, maybe if the cops get there before you get done cutting it off, then you get trespassed. Or the parking company brings you to small claims court and OP countersues them. Getting towed and booted really fricking sucks when a private company is holding your $25k car hostage, and it’s a real legal grey area like repo guys sometimes.

Go for it OP, def no way you will get in trouble. Burn the place down for the rest of us. Wear blackface and the White House will bail you out if anything happens.

Show up during the day. Present the evidence of payment again. If the attendant declines to unlock the car, punch him in the face. Continue punching him until he decides to unlock the car.

That's instant meth money or heroin cash. They will straight up bite a frickers face off for $20.

I tell you now, after they've spent $3,000 cleaning up the graffiti, cleaning up the thrown trash bins...they'll know you've arrived.

Shit bro, pay these bums $20 to steal from the cars in there. Tell them it's $40 for every broke window. Yeah you're gonna spend maybe $1,000 paying these bums, but they're gonna do x100 the damage. I promise you this. Just go down to where this place is at and start handing out packs of smokes and beers. Hard liquor works best. Shoot the shit with them. You're liquor and smokes saviour man. There used to be a tow truck shop in my area that would straight up just tow cars from anywhere then demand money for them back. People would call the cops and all the fricks had to say was someone was parked where they shouldn't have been, and nobody ever had proof otherwise. Anyway a bunch of guys from the neighborhood started pitching cheap nails, screws, whatever was sharp, all over their lot. Eventually we got more creative and started doing things like breaking their security cameras, using pellet guns to shoot out lights, icing their locks, etc et all. Cops knew too, didnt give a frick because it was never anything major. Man, that was some legit bonding. Good times.

Yeah OP, angle grinder is the way that I would try to remove it as well, but if you've never used one before, please at least put on some kind of eye protection even if it's just shitty sunglasses or something--- the cutting wheels are brittle and if you apply any sideload to them while cutting they will shatter. Also be aware that there's a difference between cutting disks and grinding disks (you want the thin cutting type disks for this application)

  8. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

Everyone should own an angle grinder and they're ideal for shaving those pins or cutting off the boot. If you have no angle grinders buy a 6" if available for the thin kerf cutting wheels.

If it was me I would make a single cut where the red line is. Either a cordless grinder with a cutoff wheel, or a cordless sawzall with a Milwaukee torch blade or something equivalent...

Should be a quick and easy cut. Sawzall would make less noise. Either one should have it off in less than a minute or two. Then just grab both halves and chuck it off to the side and drive your car away.

Check your local laws, but I remember hearing in France when wheel clamps started to become a thing people discovered once the fine was paid the company had to remove the clamp within a certain amount of time. So whenever someone got clamped they would put super glue in the lock, pay the fine then when the company couldn't remove the clamp in time watch as they had to destroy their own lock.

    Work smart, not hard

      Kevin Van Dam

I wiki’d it real quick, and the local laws differ when it comes to a private company booting cars. Might be worth looking into that. There were lots of court cases because of extorsion BS like that.

I used to work for a property management company and had a shady tow truck company under contract. It's just absolutely crazy how they can literally sneak up on cars and tow them away in a minute flat. I've seen car owners literally chase the tow trucks on foot when they realize what's happening and of course the tow truck drivers see them but they just head straight for the impound lot ofc.

Honestly I have no sympathy for people who park where they aren't supposed to. 99% of people who do this know what they're doing is wrong but they think they can go in and out before anyone notices. In the time it takes for you to get a pack of cigs your car is gone.

While I empathize with your anger and vicariously enjoyed your story, now that it's over I suggest you consider if that level of reaction is healthy. For one thing, you probably permanently damaged both your hearing and his. The situation could have easily escalated into assault and jail time or worse for you. I'm not saying you should have just paid the phony "fine" but your reaction seems (deliciously) over the top. if this is typical behavior, you could be facing real problems down the line. It is rarely wise to act in a fit of rage.

t: Been there, done that, regretted it, learned from it.

I think Anon responded with great and admirable restraint in near perfect parity. The initial dispute is a "contract" dispute, i.e. a person looking for parking will pay so many dollars per hour as a rent to use a portion of property for a period of time.
(Where this starts to go off the rails from a contract law understanding is a duty imposed on the consumer to participate in the bookkeeping and penalties stipulated for failure to peform that duty regardless of its affect of the consideration. In fact, the party showed not only intent to complete their side of the contrac, i.e. removal of the vehicle feom the property at the agreed upon time, but also was prevented from doing so by the other party. A good lawyer could set some amazing precedent here.)
Resolution of contract disputes happen in Courts. Instead, the lot decided to embark on a series of actions with intention to escalate the discomfort of the situation until a particular form of compliance, i.e. payment of the "fine," is achieved.
The lot could have had the car towed. This is the customary remedy to unwanted vehicles on private property. Instead, it was booted. A physical device was used to encumber the remedy.
Anon responded at this point and beyond at almost perfect parity.
They put on a boot? He takes off the boot.
They want to make noise to interfere? He makes noise to interfere.
One for one straight down the line. Or as this Anon put it perfectly:

Clown world problems require clown world solutions

      >Clown world problems require clown world solutions
You are suggesting that one should be self-restrained and subject himself to the will of the System in such moments. The problem is that it is both the System and this behavior that the aggressors are abusing.

Unlikely. Hearing aid professional gay here. it says 120dB max output. That *is* a lot but if it all happened as anon descriped it is unlikely to cause damage right now. If you do it often it will cause a more rapid decay of your hearing and instead of 60-70years old you might need a hearing aid at like 50-60years instead. If you want to destroy your hearing with a single blast you need a little more. Remember that +10dB means x10 the kinetic energy, so 130dB would be 10 times louder. And there is where direct damage would be likely. if you would press it right on the skull it would be enough though, because of direct sound transmission.

                Anonymous

Frick off with that dross. Vigilantism is nothing more than a natural response to artificially created chaos. We're seeing that right now in my liberal shithole city, where people are dealing with homeless degenerates, drug addicts, and other animal scum stealing anything that isn't bolted down while simultaneously ruining every part of the city with their bullshit, literal shit, and their antics. So we've started seeing more and more people hiring private security to keep methheads from staling cars, license plates, or cat converters. There was a case where I guy went full taken in our city and severely beat the guy who stole his cat converter. He was arrested, but he invited the news and they came and he pleaded guilty and explained why, and said if he ever caught the man doing it again he'd do it again. Right there, in court. Fricking based.

Why are people taken to revenge? Because the avenues that people expect for their problems to get handled (The police, courts, etc.) are overwhelmed, understaffed, and legally not even interested in prosecuting the crimes. How safe do you feel going downtown when there was a stabbing there last week, and the libtard DA released him, and the degenerate frick stabbed another innocent motherfricker. Or when cars are being stolen every single day in the hundreds in my city while politicians and the DA and everyone who was supposed to give a frick sits on their ass and talks with a diversity and social justice counsel of privileged, woke losers because they care more about being stylish than fixing the city?

Yeah, when you can't trust the cops, people start dealing with their problems in ways they see fit.

Wouldn't car boots fall under false imprisonment (not allowing people freedom of movement) as well as a fourth amendment violation (not having access to your property without warrant or due process)?

      Anonymous

No, you can still walk away and forfeit your property and no, when a private citizen does it, it's at a form of theft at worst. however since your property (car) is located on their property (lot), you are also trespassing.

      >they only respect you after they've pushed you to the brink of madness
It's not respect. It's fear. Chiefly of the unknown. They were counting on a set of behaviors based on social norms. More than counting on it, the entire game is predicated on it.
When that ceases to be evident, they must now re-evaluate all their manipulations as provocations and gauge the danger they've created. Because the reality has reasserted itself: they rely on their mark to restrain himself.
It's why israelitefinger here keeps harping back on "powder keg" and "check yourself" and whatnot. Because they're so pathetically powerless to stop anything and anyone asserting themselves.

It's a funny story and all, but based honkanon sounds like he has serious anger issues and I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up doing some prison time later after battering someone etc.
Obviously predatory parking lot people should be placed in the gas chamber and physically removed from our society just like every other antisocial criminal who doesn't respect the social fabric. But still, the story leaves me with a sense that honkanon is a powderkeg of anger issues who is going to crack in the wrong way at the wrong time someday.

Well done OP. My old apartment would constantly change which spaces were available to park in. I one day parked in a spot they changed to a reserved parking spot. I couldn’t get to work and the apartment I lived in said no one was available to get it off so I had to take the train which luckily was possible for this particular work location.

When I got back I went into the back office like a silverback gorilla and started pressing everyone. They said there’s nothing they can do it’s policy and I was flipping out so bad the woman at the desk sent me to the building manager in his back office, the highest ranked member of the building. He was a literal israelite wearing a Yamacha. I was at the brink of murdering everyone in the office and glared and shouted. I told him that I knew he wasn’t likely to do anything and I said I really hope the 150 dollars is worth it and glared into that frickers soul. He gave in.

TLDR why be handy when you can threaten to kill people.

can those bolt heads be angle grinded off? they look like hinges. surely you just pop the heads off and be done with it? Even if its solid iron an angle grinder will cut through that in 5-10min and two blades.
I'd knock the bolt heads off though.

  96. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

If your thinking of drilling go for cobalt and some cutting fluid. Cobalt will drill through mild and stainless like butter when we'll lubed. The yellow to and black oxide are dogshit. If you really wanna she'll out go for full carbide. I drill out stuck taps and etc with those frickers.

Alternatively use an angle grinder with significant umf. If you really wanna give them a finger rent a gas concrete saw and strap a 15 inche cutter on it. Those things can blow through a railroad track in a minute flat. A shoddy boot will be like a hot knife through butter.

Third option is a bit quieter but not much. A hand held band saw with a medium high TPI should get through it quieter then the angle grinder can. it's gonna be slower but I've cut 1/4 inch wall thickness stainless steel girders with it. Took about 5 minutes each with a full battery.

And as always wear your eye and ear pro.

Angle grinder and multiple disks is your best bet eventually they'll tow it. the boot is there so that by the time the tow truck shows up it's not gone. An equally quality move would be to buy the key off of ebay

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/201650224947?epid=8003748718&hash=item2ef34a3f33:g:AWUAAOSwcB5ZNlqa

for maximum frickery you could pretend to get yourself in a situation get yourself booted and stalk the guy who booted you wait until he gets into his car remember the car and the following day when he goes about setting off to work boot his piece of shit car and put glue in the locking mechanism

  104. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

May have been said already but don't destroy it. Then they hold you liable for that too. At this point it's just a civil issue cop, unless just being dicks, can't stop you from removing it in a non destructive manor. Get a socket wrench and remove what needs to be removed to get it off. Usually hub assembly? Not a master mechanic sorry don't know all the parts. Then take their boot to your property. Hold it ransom they are pretty cheap so they probably won't even try to get it back. Return it by booting their company vehicles later super glue or epoxy in the lock will disable the cylinder.

That's the easiest and cheapest way to get those Amazon wheel boots off. Just get one of those round Bic-clic promo pens that are ubiquitous. Disassemble it because you be needing the plastic barrel. It's the perfect size. Just jam the pen barrel in the lock and gently rap the back with a light hammer. Once it's firmly seated just twist and it will unlock because you've just made a key for it. That trick won't work on modern US/Euro versions of tubular locks since they use pins with variable spring rates specifically to defeat this particular attack for the most part. There are bittings out there that this will work on no matter what they do to the internals. But the cheap Chinese tubular locks that have flooded low end of the market for security devices don't use variable spring rates. They're still vulnerable.
