Throw it in the trash
Olight and holosun
Are lights really that beneficial to a gun? I feel like having a light on you just gives away your position.
Nah they aren't essential, my eyes have been blessed by Lama so have darkvision
It was a joke, the only thing you need are iron sights and your intuition. Blast anything that makes a noise maybe next time they'll respect a man with a gun.
>Are lights really that beneficial to a gun
Take it back. You are not prepared.
Assuming this isn't bait.
Yes a light is one of the most beneficial things to put on your new AR besides an optic. No reason to go mad expensive. Holosun would be great.
Best advice anyone can give is to shoot. Shoot. Shoot. As much as you can. Learn your rifle and how it operates. Take it apart and clean it regularly and learn to respect it as a tool. Get used to using it.
> I feel like having a light on you just gives away your position.
Try being in the dark for about ten minutes, then have a designated friend/family members randomly shine a 500 lumen light right at you and see how readily you're able to respond to that. Please note that screaming, shielding your eyes and wondering why you see nothing but disorienting white is not an effective response.
Seeing and being seen is preferable to not seeing and still probably being seen anyways. The only time you should be worried about your position being revealed is if you're the one doing the home invading.
Ammo and range time, as much as you can get. Accessories will add onto your skill but zero skill means nothing will help.
After that, a sling. Even the most basic two point sling is a good thing to have.
And then some snap caps. When you're at the range, shoot. When you're at home, run dry fire and misfire drills. Get to know your trigger and when it will break. And then when you're at the range randomly load snap caps with your actual ammo to train the flinching out, if any.
However if you're feel like it get some of the cheapest ultra-chinkshit accessories to play around with. Don't go even casually larping with them on your gun, obviously. However having something physical to hold onto and seeing how it will affect things will teach you more about you and your gun than any amount of articles of videos.
They can make the most ultimately comfortable and rugged vertical grip but it will mean nothing if you find out you just don't like vertical grips.
Once you've learned how to shoot and how you and your gun work together then start spending money on accessories or just skip to a more premium rifle.
Anyways, have fun.
No they suck drop $6000 on a passive nv setup right now.
>mfw 20k nv/ir laser illuminator setup which justifies op's gaygish thinking
>not having both
Sounding awfully homosexual there
I'm assuming this isn't bait. Yes, you need a light. The Fourth rule of firearms safety is "Know your target and what's around it". And since most crimes happen at night, that means you need a light.
After all, how the hell are you going to argue that your shooting was justifiable you couldn't even see him, much less know that he had a weapon?
The light isn't there to help you shoot better. It's to help you determine if you even should shoot in the first place. And yes, you need one for home defense.
duly noted
In a warzone yes white lights are dumb unless your clearing structures. In civilian self defense situations they are best thing to have on a weapon.
The answer is: It's beneficial when the situation to need one arises.
What are you going to do with your firearm?
Does it involve needing a weapon light?
Build your rifle to YOUR needs, not the needs of others.
>light with switch for nighttime identification
>sling for weapon retention
>sight for easier aiming and nighttime aiming
>at LEAST 10 mags
I know a lot of people will say trigger, but unless you're trying to shoot distance or your trigger is absolute garbage, you can get used to a mediocre trigger through practice.
worst case scenario Holosun
>breaks
worst case scenario olight
>explodes
One of these is an ok poorgay choice
Light, sling, optic. If that stock is super wobbly, get some soft side velcro and stick it on the top of the buffer tube. If it's only a little wobbly, strips of tape one at a time.
Sling and carry handle rear sight.
15 yards with iron sights
is this bait? do ARgays really think this is okay at 15 yards?
He's new and probably not getting trained in proper technique, and probably shooting standing. Give him a break,be happy we have a new riflegay among us. Guide him
>is the front sight easy to remove on this gun
No. Get an optic anyway. I suggest a plain regular red dot.
Your rifle has 2 sling loops in the usual places, same as a USGI rifle. Get a sling and attach it, adjust it, get used to it. It should be able to comfortably hold the rifle slung to your back without being so tight you can't change to a low ready easily. It should be able to partially supper the weight of the weapon when in a relaxed low ready position.
Look up rifle shooting fundamentals and practice them at the range. Congratulations on your purchase.
Well, you're on paper. Better than some, thats for sure. Even so, practice practice practice my man. Work on your stability, do lots of dry fire practice. Welcome to manhood, friend.
the second group is okay. 15yd is shit for a rifle - find a place with more distance and challenge yourself. also start doing dry fire drills at home (sort of sucks to do with an ar). i want to see this group at 50 yds.
quick question for everyone, is the front sight easy to remove on this gun? I want to replace it with a flip up so I can use an optic and see clearer.
You're gonna hurt yourself just buy a cheap 403r and use the riser with a yhm 1/2in riser if you REALLY wanna try NV riser height.
i suggest you practice with your irons because it's the true AR15 experience. get a low profile gas block or an optic after you can get a good grouping at 100 yards.
do the opposite of what anyone on this board says
sell it and get an ak
I don't think op is interested in starting hrt.
In this market and with the ammo ban?
No fricking way
Browse /ARG.
Do the opposite of what they say.
thanks for the advice everyone. Really excited to join the community.
welcome fren. /arg/ is cancer, plz don't go there. Anything magpul makes is a safe bet. Any ammo will be fine for you right now, but once you are able to keep all your bullets inside a 6-in circle at 100 yards, you're going to want to look at different ammo types to get better accuracy. If you have a one in seven twist barrel, 75 and 77 grain rounds are probably going to shoot pretty well.
Frick man, I'm happy for you. I'm 30 and I have an AR-10 and two AR-15s, but that's got to feel so good having your own for the first time. I know it did for me. As long as you spend more on ammo and range time than you do on accessories and parts, you'll end up as a good shooter.
Thanks bro, I own guns and have experience in them but this is my first semi auto rifle. The front hand guard is magpul ( I swapped it from the factory as I heard the factory hand guard heats up really easily for this model). I had always wanted a AR but never got serious about saving the funds to do it. I changed my mind recently when I figured they are gonna start trying to restriction laws or making buyers jump through extra hoops for the gun
do some dryfire until youre comfy with basic operation and it all feels second nature to you
and like the other anons said dont bother with arg
Is dry firing bad for AR's? I have always been taught not to dry fire guns
Yes, but also no.
Does dry firing wear out a firing pin when the force isn't being taken up by a primer? Sure. Will you ever dry fire it enough for it to matter in the long term? No. Firing pins are good for tens of thousands of rounds and if it does break, what of it? AR firing pins are a dime a dozen. Buy an extra, hell buy a dozen extra.
The story changes with older firearms which may be worn or have firing pins that are made of a different type of steel. Replacements for those may be expensive or even nonexistent.
Rimfire guns shouldn't be dry fired at all.
Regardless of the gun, its condition, and your beliefs the rule of courtesy is that if it isn't your gun don't dry fire it. Some people are okay with it, some definitely are not okay with it. Always ask, their trust in you will increase dramatically.
Speaking of, think about buying some spare consumable parts like gas rings, cam pins, etc or if you really want to you could buy a whole extra bolt carrier group as a spare in case the one you have ever has develops any issues. A bargain bin $60 BCG will save your ass when you need your gun to function and don't have time to buy spare parts, and it'll work in your basic AR you have now or the ultra-gucci rifle you may or may not end up getting later.
appreciate the info bros
duly noted, getting a light
thanks for the advice. funny you posted that photo I have been singing "me little armalite" ever since I got it
"me little armalite" is just an endless classic, but try out "Snipers Song". kinda slow and sad, but i really love it, great to lube and fondle my guns to. Also has the armalite in it
sorry i am moron
song name is "Snipers Promise"
AR-15s don't care about dry firing. They're Private-Proofed for good reason. They cost like $5 even if you manage to frick one up. Just on a side note, never dry fire .22s or other rimfire firearms.
welcome fren 🙂
people are very nitpicky here but honestly an entry level gun is 80% 'as good' as a super gucci gun.
One of the big things a lot of people swap out from a gun like that is the handguard. The modern cheese grater style handguards are pretty comfy and have a lot of room to mount random junk if you like that. What do you intend to use the rifle for?
Home defense mostly. With the amount of rioting and looting going on in the past few years I figure its a good weapon to have.
in that case light is probably the next thing you want to buy
most important thing though, make sure it cycles reliably with whatever ammo you're using for home defense
A light is a must. A guy near me killed his mom because he didn’t have a light. He just shot a dark figure trying to get in through his back door.
Who is that trigger happy and doesn't go to the window. Who doesn't have perimeter lights?
Keep your gun as is. Don't take the front sight off. Get a red dot/magnifier combo. Add a light at some point if you want. That will meet your needs for self defense and plinking for fun.

$230 for this. Great deal when its in stock. Otherwise just go to gun.deals and find something if you don't want to wait.

aside from color is this the same?
welcome to the world of the AR fren. dont mind the bullshit, we are thrilled to have you. when it comes to ammo, honestly, M193 will serve you fine for the most part just avoid "Fake M193" like german M193 (MEN) or Sellier and Bellot. Other than that remember: Cleaning is overrated, lubing isnt. Treat your AR like your GF: If shes wet, shes happy.
based. dont let the /k/ucks here ruin your excitement
Depending on your financial situation, it'd be smart to trade the AR-15 in for an AR-10 or a BRN-180.
To simplify, the AR-10 is what the AR-15 used to be before a whole bunch of dumb shit caused it to be downsized, but the bigass bedspring and bolt carrier are meant for mitigating the recoil of far bigger bullets.
The BRN-180 is based off the AR-18, which is just what the AR-15 should've been.
Well... it's a rifle, that's a start.
Get a sling, a cheap red dot on 1/3 cowitness mount, and shoot it.
Don't dump too much money on it, definitely not on stuff that can't be transfered between rifles, you're probably gonna move on at some point.
>Get a sling, a cheap red dot on 1/3 cowitness mount, and shoot it.
This is mostly good advice. However, I recommend learning how to shoot the Irons before installing anything else. OP should also get FM 3-22.9.
At this point, I wouldn't bother with irons beyond zeroing his back up sights.
Arguing otherwise is neofuddery, it brings no tangible benefits, you will learn the same basics of marksmanship on a reflex sight, except faster.
>t. used irons for nearly a decade before getting a first optic
That's valid if we're talking home defense or shorter range shooting. Most people will never shoot past 300 yards anyway. But you need to know how to elevate the rifle if you're going to shoot any farther. And old school irons are the best for learning that.
Admittedly OP's MBUS knockoffs aren't good for training anyways.
>But you need to know how to elevate the rifle if you're going to shoot any farther. And old school irons are the best for learning that.
I'm sorry but that makes no sense.
Irons suck for shooting at extended ranges, since they cover the target, unlike optics.
Sure, you can range (some) irons, but a human is neither born with an inbuilt rangefinder, nor the wits to calmly turn knobs while under fire, so eyeballing bullet drop with a red dot, or rangefinding with a moron proof reticle (ACOG) will always win over A2 style irons.
>Sure, you can range (some) irons,
That's what I'm recommending. Start with the basics, and build up. Obviously, you don't rely on Irons for actual work, but they're good practice.
Just to add to this, OP needs five items today: A sling, flashlight, red dot/optic, magazines, cleaning kit.
Don't forget to add range time for a bit of practice.
I also highly recommend a LaserLyte for drilling. Obviously make certain the firearm is cleared before home drilling.
hearing , eye protection for range
nice
What brand is that? How much was it? I'm looking to buy my first one as well with labor day sales going on
Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport 2. It was $811.
> Smith and Wesson M&P 15 Sport 2
You will want to make sure the gas tube is properly indexed, between my local friends and online friends they are 3 for 3 for not having the gas tube properly indexed at 12 o'clock which cause the BCG to drag as it return to battery which cause it to fail to feed.
Mine is fine. Ive even ran a FRT in it for hundreds of rounds before the trigger busted itself
Wow, guess Smith & Wesson is cheeping out lately. When I got my M&P Sport II last year, it had the full detailed S&W logo engraved on the side and the collapsible stock. I also got it for $750.
mine has both of those things. The logo is on the other side.
Okay, guess they moved it then. Well, you’re in for a dependable AR. Mine has work flawlessly for over 1000 rounds now. Since you also have the Magpul hand guard like I do, you might want to look into a vertical grip, if you’re into that.
Yes I plan to get a vertical grip so my hand won't interfere with the light attachment on the side.

I havent heard good things about them
Aimpoints except the 3xc are gtg but they come with a price.
Sling and ammo... lot of ammo and maybe couple of spare mags and mag loader
Gas block and picatinny handgun. Take that can off. Home defense, add a foregrip, red dot, and strobe light. Sight in at 50 yards. Red dot sight works well as well, kill the irons. Get a good muzzle brake for home defense too >razzle dazzle
Handrail*
Sling, weapon light, optic.
magpul grip

get your eyes checked. Its a smith and wesson

thanks
Welcome friendo
For the love of god don't shoot up a place
is this some kind of glowie reverse psychology?
>Implying a glowie is clever enough to do this
Get a sling, light and optic. The best entry level optic is gonna be the Sig Sauer romeo5, you can find it for around $100. They also have the Sig Sauer MSR for around $70.
Aside from that, get ammo and go shoot the damn thing.
any suggestion on where to get the Romeo5?
unironically bought 2 from amazon. just have to watch out for fakes. there are threads about it on ar15.com. actually after looking they're around 125 there, mine were both 99.99 in like may. midwayusa and primary arms will have good deals sometimes, and usually have quick shipping.
Can confirm, primary arms sold them for a flash sale earlier this year for $75, $99 seems to be the regular sale price.
Definitely wait for a holiday sale.
based anon, I bought the same a year ago!
mine has shot around 1k rds with only one stovepipe, so I've had great success. put a light on it and a red dot. practice using the irons with the red dot off every now and then, being good with irons makes you a better shooter. get a sling as well.
Grenade launcher/baronet combo. good luck out there.
