My crazy ex-wife has my house keys and I cannot afford a locksmith.

My crazy ex-wife has my house keys and I cannot afford a locksmith. What can I used to jam up the keyhole to stop her getting in? Would superglue work?

or just get a new lock with a key and install that. Like, when you are going to repin the lock, might aswell just put in a new cylinder.

Man changing a lock is a lot easier than you think. Can usually pick up a deadlock at any hardware store for less than 20 quid in the UK. If you can find the same lock you can just swap the barrel out, too.

hardware stores dont exist in north america anymore. you'd have to order one online and it'll probably take a week

literally every town in America with at least 20,000 residents has a Lowe's or a Home Depot or both

Those are not hardware stores, those are "home improvement stores". They are to hardware what bestbuy is to electronics, but

yes and you can walk into Lowes and buy a new deadbolt
also my town has an ace hardware that went in like 2 years ago because there was no hardware stores in town other than a small selection at the farm stores

Where I live I'd say I have about 15 or 20 hardware stores all less than 30 minutes from my house. I'm not even counting Home Depot, Menards, or Lowes.

Stick your key in the lock. Take a hammer and snap off the exposed end of the key.
If you land a good, square hit it should break off from the thinner taper inside the lock, not even leaving a little stub exposed.

This method works a lot better if you stand outside the door with the door locked when you hit it, stops the key spinning.

    a) changing a lock is pretty simple anon, I can usually do one in 30 minutes. Maybe 1hr if it's your first time doing it

    b) if you can't handle that get some slide bolt locks and just lock any exterior doors from the inside.

    Security anon here.
There are a few sensible options if your locks have been compromised.

    A. Remove the barrels, take the barrels into a locksmith and get the pins simply re-ordered or buy new barrels. Get new keys while you're there. Far cheaper than actually calling out a locksmith.
If your lock is generic you may well be able to buy a new barrel from a hardware store and change it yourself, as the lock is already fitted changing the barrel is an in and out operation.

    B. Remove the barrel and disconnect the metal part that connects the barrel to the latch.
The key will go in, the lock will turn, but it won't open the door.
You can do this straight away, it's free, won't damage the lock... but obviously you won't be able to get in the door either.

    C. Install a second lock, i would recommend a top/ bottom bolt.
This means though a key can open the door, the door remains bolted. No damage, and when you change the locks you're left with a useful feature.

But i won't cuck you bro, if for whatever reason you need to forcibly disable a lock which you either can't open or access (like uh... reasons) you have several good options.
    A jamming key.
It's a blank key filed into a hook and snapped off in the lock. A locksmith can remove it in 30 seconds and so could a man... but it will stop a woman probably forever.
Hard set glue. Basically ruins a domestic lock, a jogger tier move which simply stops a key going in. Results may vary, use a plastic straw, fill with glue, force in all the way, pinch the back end and force the glue in.

But be aware that many domestic locks can be shimmed by forcing a credit card, copper sheet or jbar between the lock and catch, disabling the lock usually won't stop shimming on a domestic lock unless it's deadbolted

    Close the door. Lock it.

Put the key back in the keyhole. Turn it just enough that it's at an angle, but not enough that it will open the door.

Anyone trying to use a key on the other side won't be able to.

Changing locks is easy diy task. Unscrew lock, put a new lock in, screw lock in. And this is a lot cheaper than hiring a locksmith to chnage the lock series.
