When France and Italy sell you a missile defense system they make a nice profit. When the US sells you one they aren't sure if they are even making money off it. So you have a better chance of getting a better system for the price. Regardless US will always keep improving their systems. Once the Pentagon puts in the billions of R&D you can get the next block upgrade so cheap.

The US company always makes a profit. It's the US taxpayer that may or may not be footing the bill if the weapon sale is part of "foreign aid."

If you look at it from the US perspective, if an ally who the US will fight with is buying and fielding a Patriot unit, that’s essentially adding a patriot unit to its expeditionary forces - without requiring the same logistics or even paying for the system yourself.

For the US taxpayer it might seem like subsidies, but it is a very cost effective way of spending money on the US armed forces.

The US system is always massively overpriced because of US MIC bloat parasitism. The French-Italian system will have way less overhead and they will have far less political requirements for selling to you. If you buy American you will end up being Bidens Bottom Butt Buddy.

And yet European weapons are so overpriced their own Governments would rather buy American.

Please for the fricking love of God stop comparing vastly different missile systems and learn what an integrated air defense network is. They're different classes of missile. Ideally if you're loaded you want both, and shorter range systems too.

You're okay against most threats, you just need the Block 1NT upgrade for enhanced anti-ballistic missile defence, then you'll be as good as the most up-to-date Patriot.

I wouldn’t say it’s superior, but they are different types of systems. Generally speaking, Patriot is somewhere in the region of 40% more expensive (life cycle), and requires more personnel to field. For smaller armies, Aster is probably a better choice, particularly as it seemingly has very good potentials for future development ie. Like it’s new missile in development.

In Patriots favour is the US Army, and the willingness to give good deals for its allies, essentially outsourcing US Army functions to its allies (for instance delivery time, training and beneficial payment options).

Whichever is the best choice depends (imo) on the type of army and how good relations the country has with the US. Both systems are very capable.

Who the hell is Egypt fighting that the US will also be fighting? That's the second-largest recipient of US military aid right there.
