I almost bought a one of these pizza things but that looks like a big slop of shit.
For the price they charge for one of these I could buy a real pizza.

MRE isnt meant to be tasty or cheap, its meant to be stable and light weight

      >and light weight
It's not even meant to be that. Half the weight and 2/3 of the bulk of an MRE is packaging.

For "less disciplined" militaries, it also can't be good enough that it gets eaten/sold before it's needed.

the pizza mre is vile, it tastes like a really old and stale lunchables pizza with a chemical after taste
the blueberry cobbler side is good tho, but neither item counts as food in my opinion
the best MRE is burrito chicken bowl or hash browns with bacon and peppers

Fricking Zoomers, I joined in 2005 and the pizza MRE was rumored to be in production from well before then. It took almost a decade to develop it. I was disappointed when I first had it but it's no where near as bad as the worst MRE ever. You youngins never beheld the terror of long term food
      >VEGITARIAN CRUMBLE OMELET
a MRE so bad that it was assumed a spare meal in box 1. We would plan on box 1 only having 19 meals when requesting supplies. There was nothing to ratfrick in it, it was used only for spare TP and spoons.

I joined the Marines in 2006, can confirm the veggie omelet was one of the worst things I ever tried to eat in my entire life.

I have eaten a lot of questionable food. Some of it bad enough I had to get drunk and hold my nose to gag it down.
The veggie omelette was the only food that I couldn't keep down. I was half way through and the damn thing came back up.
My next most hated as the maple pork patty. Everything in it was just so bland.

My local surplus store since I'm french. For that price it's a pretty good deal, considering all the stuff you have in a 5€ box. I use them for hiking. The US MRE were terrible compared to the French ones, and they have too much calories, seriously 10k is overkill, no wonder they become so fat.

It's one of the hardier and cheaper American dishes. Warm, meaty stew on a cold day goes a long way for morale, and, for Americans, chili tastes like home. It's one of the few distinctly American dishes that Americans across the line prepare and eat at home.

the confidence, enthusiasm, and discipline of a person or group at a particular time.

good tasting food raises spirits in war. raised spirits in turn make the soldier fight harder. something as simple as having a coke goes a long fricking way when you're thousands of miles from home. the US places a huge emphasis on homey foods for their warfighters because it works. it's why you used to be able to get a whopper in afghanistan

        >good tasting food raises spirits in war. raised spirits in turn make the soldier fight harder.
It reduces stressmarkers which allows soldiers making more rational decisions. There is an entire canon of science behind that.
And that is why most 3rd world military don't run at full effectiveness, they believe shit like what you wrote. There is no such thing as a fighting spirit that can be bribed with food.

I actually genuinely think MREs aren't half bad. They beat most of the shit made by the cooks at least. At this point, any soup or stew entree is gonna be pretty good. There's one MRE (I think #8?) that has a hashbrown entree and general breakfast theme, complete with dehydrated oat cereal, and that one is definitely my favorite overall. Chicken pesto entree is another good one.

If they gave a frick about morale they would be putting chocolate bars and cigarettes in rations again. This shit is hardly considered food, its closer chemically to a sneaker. They should just be giving out canned fruit and beans and meat again or have mobile mess kitchens , MRE are 100% some sort of MIC contract nepotist israelitery. They arent even cheaper or more nutritious.

      >They should just be giving out canned fruit and beans and meat again
Not gonna lie, the Russian rations have cans of spiced buckwheat with beef, pork or chicken. That shit is really tasty and comfy.
German MREs have kale with smoked sausage, the french have salmon and oriental thuna salad, real food.
Problem is the same amount of calories has a lot more weight than the highly processed and almost waterless MRE. MRE is a product of high end logistics.
