Genuinely true. Glock has barely changed their design in 40 years, meanwhile everyone else has been refining their designs, and many manufacturers surpassed Glock in quality and reliability a long time ago. The thing about the gun industry is that reputations stick for a really long time. And Glock is riding their reputation, because for a really long time, the only decent polymer/striker handguns you could get were Glocks. That changed like 20 years ago but Glock still dominates the market despite being a thoroughly mediocre gun in every regard.

I have a m&p .40 I like and bought over the glock years ago because it had better ergonomics. I wanted a 10mm but every video I watched of the s&w had multiple failures from stove piping to mags falling out. Ended up getting Glock g40 and couldn't be happier. So I guess my point is depends.

              Anonymous

I don't have one, I can never find one in-store around here, but the new 10mm M&P's are apparently pretty good.
I'd like to grab one, but I'm thinking of getting a Springfield TRP and converting it to .460 Rowland instead.
Not sure what 10mm I'll get. I'm trying to avoid "duplicates" for just right now, so unless it's longer-term, I don't think I'll be getting an M&P or Ruger SR1911 in 10 I've heard good things about, and already have a TZ75, so maybe a P220? I'm not sure yet.

I just got a tanfoglio in 10mm, it's good. Just ordered recoil springs and a better guide rod from Henning so it can shoot bear loads.

          Better grip texture.
Metal chassis through the lower for recoil management / durability.
          Better grip angle.
          Doesn't look like shit.

Glock is superior to the M&P, but not by much, mostly comes down to which one fits your hands better/you shoot better.

          Anonymous

Honestly true. Better grip, better trigger, just as if not more reliable. It has a worst aftermarket (but still a good one).

This thread was because of the garandthumb mud test that only the M&P did well in. Everything else struggled or failed. It also did the best when frozen. While those are irrelevant it’s still cool and shows what the M&P could do

            Anonymous

            >just as if not more reliable
The M&P is decisively more reliable. Aftermarket is pretty good, I'd say they have the second largest aftermarket of the polymer pistols (the pp's as I will be calling them). M&Ps are well established pp's, they've been around for a while now and plenty of agencies have adopted them. Most agencies indeed use glawks, but several around me use the M&P and now the biggest agency in my state uses the FN. As the tests show Sigs do well too, and the military just adopted them. In GT's ice and mud tests the Sigs shined about just as well as the S&Ws, and the P365 has done well in other mud test vids on youtube.

If you want a peepee, the ones to get are Glock, S&W, Sig, or FN (these need to be included in more tests, they have excellent features and are seeing wider adoption). HKs are high quality as well but due to price not a lot of agencies or individuals adopt them. Literally none of these pistols will do you wrong under most circumstances (I'm concerned with the Glock limpwrist issue enough to never get another one though), just get one based on what feels comfortable and what features you like (sights, trigger, ambi features, etc).

Nevermind the shitty pic, but I was thinking of getting a 5" 9mm and really gucci'ing it up, especially if I could find a WAR slide, but then I realized I've been too many "duplicate" or "same-y" guns and want to diversify, so I've held off on AR's, M&P's, etc.

Eh, that's not really NOT an argument against the M&P, or autoloaders in general. If anything, the high amount of police bodycam footage of autoloader malfs suggests that defensive shootings often put the user in a position in which it's easy to induce a stoppage. Considering self-defense shootings tend not to make much use of the capacity afforded by large magazines I've kinda come around to the idea that revolvers might not be such a bad carry choice after all. This isn't a fudd opinion; you should carry as much ammo as you can, it just needs to reliably feed.

Also that hinged trigger is an abomination and looks like it fits NO ONE‘S finger. I bet you‘re just gonna knuckle that thing permanently.

Bruv it's hinged, it straightens out some when you touch it. Unlike a CZ75 that stays circular as heck.

It's irrelevant anyway, they are expanding the 10mm triggers to the normal models slowly. They'll all have the new rigid trigger soon enough, you can already buy several models with it.

There's nothing inherently less reliable about hammers compared to strikers.

Hammer fires are inherently more reliable than strikers except apparently in situations where the gun is covered in mud and ice. You're going to get more light strikes with a strikers gun, and you don't have second strike capability.

remember some years ago when the Glock, M&P and XD were seemingly the only polymer service pistols in fierce competition? What happened? Do you consider glock the victor? The XD undoubtable lost, some LEOs use the MP but glock never got dethroned.
Now theres nothing but plastic guns out there trying to beat out glock and its still the reigning supreme

      Anonymous

The Glock has history of usage with LEO departments and have been working well for them, it's not difficult to understand why LEO departments are hesitant or just not in a rush to replace their service pistols when the Glock works just fine.
For those departments that are looking to replace their older pistols they'll look at whichever will meet their demand for a good price and some have opted for S&W offering and others just follow historical tend of selecting Glock.

It definitely seems like Glock and S&W are the top two, though I've seen some departments using 320's, like one of the departments here in Michigan I was watching a shooting about. So who knows at this rate. I feel it'll still be Glock/S&W mainly, with a few others eeking in here and there.

      >but wait here comes sig sauer with a steel chair

pic related is probably the closest thing to dethrone the glock. Civilians and LEOs tend to gravitate towards whatever the military does. Ive seen more of these pop up than smith and wessons, and other competitors like HK and walther never come up at all. S&W is IMO better out of the ox than a glock. Its cheaper, but ergos, and the 2nd generations actually in the triggers everyone was replacing in the first gen so they at least listen to their customers. But glocks got decades of aftermarket on everyone and most of whats offered be it a sig or a smith, isnt a major difference to replace and entire armory. At least not yet. If sig can unfuck the p320 design, the modular system they have could be a game changer in a few years

        >the modular system they have could be a game changer
        Oof.
Once again, Beretta beat Sig to the punch. They came out with the Nano which did this back in 2011.
Credit to Siggers for realizing the potential though. Even though the ARX does this too... nobody cares.
        >Glawk
They not only have aftermarket they have the reputation. I don't think them winning the XM trials would have done squat for them. People are still gonna buy Glock and Sig might get some crumbs off their lunch but that's it.
M&P has always been my favorite striker though. I want to like a Glock because I like being a trend whore sometimes but it just doesn't work for me. M&P angle is better and personally I think it's one of the best looking poly strikers out there.
Helps that it looks like they're becoming the most reliable in silly internet video one off torture tests.

Are FDE handguns cringe now? I want to finally buy an FNX-45 Tactical since that and the FNP were the coolest and most futuristic pistols on the market back in my college days. I don't know if I should buy FDE for old time's sake or just go with black. I already have an M17 fwiw.

Anyone else kind of curious about the M&P 5.7?
I am interested in the locking system, it seems strange to me that none of the new 5.7 pistols use a browning tilting bolt. I assume there is a reason for it but I am not smart enough to figure it out myself.

Btw soft & weak monkeypox are the most soulless and tryhard pieces of shit I have ever laid eyes upon. It's like they specifically tried to fit as much boredom and mediocrity as physically possible into a pistol.

Gaston Glock lives rent free in handgun manufacturelets' heads when it comes to poly strikers.

My first gen M&P 9 was the first firearm I ever personally owned, and has the most rounds through it, it's what I used for taking defensive handgun courses. I own a couple glocks and HK and FN now too but M&P 9 will always be my best bro

I've got a gen 1 shield plus which was not optics ready. I mildly want a red dot, but have never modified a gun before and have no clue what that process looks like.

How big is it of a pain in the ass to get one anyways, is it worth adding, and has anyone here ever done it?

You can get a m&p shield slide that is optics ready and just mount a rds that way, like this https://riflesupply.com/Smith-Wesson-MP-Shield-Optics-Ready-Slide-Slide-Shield-SMS-and-Holosun-507k-Footprint-9mm-31%E2%80%9D-Barrel-Black-3015613_p_7552.html. Otherwise you'll need to send out your oem slide to get it milled to whichever footprint your rds is.

Most people prefer a direct milling over a plate mounting system. I haven't invested in that yet but I do plan on doing so in the future. You just have to send your slide off to the company of your choice and pick your dot. I'm leaning towards the 507k/407k foot print for my g42 because the eps carry looks like a great choice.
