Mosin Help?

Not a gun nut, but interested in buying a mosin (I know there's cheaper better options, leave me alone)because it's my first rifle, I already own two handguns (.22lr and 9mm). I've seen variants on GunBroker, but in your opinion what's difference as well the necessary cleaning/maintain tools

Which variants? There are a bunch.
    >as well the necessary cleaning/maintain tools
Buy any gun cleaning kit from Cabela's.

Dumb gay, first off have a nice day.
Secondly just look for a $300 or less 91/30 that is your best bet for getting a decent rifle and not overpay
If you actually have to ask about cleaning you probably shouldn't even own guns.

Retard. I'm talking about can I use the same stuff I use for bore and the moving parts for my pistols to the mosin or do I got to be cuck and buy specific brand supplies

You can use the same solvents and oil, but you'll obviously need a rifle-length cleaning rod and a .30cal brush. You also need to know whether the ammunition you shoot is corrosive, and if it is, you'll have to clean every part of the rifle that comes in contact with propellant gasses thoroughly when you're done shooting, or else they'll rust.

This literally just means the barrel and boltface. Just get into the habit of light cleaning after every range trip and you’ll be perfectly fine.
One time I left my mosin sitting for 3 years after shooting corrosive. of course, it was rusted to shit. some foaming hoppes passes and it came back to life without any more noticeable pitting than when I bought it.

just get a 30 cal metal bore brush and a cleaning rod, that's all you need. use soap and water to clean the bore if you use corrosive ammo.

Thanks for the help. Now gotta find non-corrosive ammo since I can't do the nail test or else the whole neighborhood thinks they're getting shot

You can still find corrosive surplus ammo for like $0.50/round, you'll be paying at least twice that for non-corrosive

Good news anon a bunch of new brass has landed, things are not as grim for 54r as they looked a year ago

              https://i.imgur.com/uGpOTXp.jpg

If you are okay with a basic wartime production 91/30 then you can still find excellent refurbs for around $400-500. Yes if you get lucky or know a boomer you could score one for cheaper, and yes if you are retarded who needs it NOW you will probably overpay.
I love my mosins, people who talk shit are usually dog fucking furries.
If you are going to be a fag about corrosive ammo then only buy the new production brass case from PPU or igman. A bunch just got imported and its decently priced. https://wildhorseammunition.com these are the guys, totally legit.
I have tons of wolf 54r marked non corrosive that is corrosive.

Corrosive is fine, just dont be a lazy fag and clean your gun after. Its not like you're using an SKS and have to clean the whole gas system. Its a bolt-action rifle the only thing you need to clean is the bore

      >cleaning
Grab literally any cleaning kit. Use the .30 cal brushes. Hell you could even get away with just using the rifle’s own cleaning rod and patches.
      >variants?
Pick literally whatever you want. post-WWII Ex-snipers and any finnish rifle will be your cream of the crop as far as quality and accuracy goes. avoid anything built by russia during middle to late WWII if you choose, most will be okay to subpar shooters but all will look like absolute dogshit because of rushed production.
I myself own an ex-sniper built in 1938 at the Tula arsenal, refurbished post-war with force-matched parts in ukraine sometime in the 50’s. absolute beauty of a rifle with a crisp bore and good fit and finish.

The day of decent $300 or below mosins are long gone my friend. Last I was trying to hunt down a sub-$500 mosin for a .410 conversion everything I could find was absolute garbage rods with missing screws, rusted out barrels and recievers and people were still asking $250 minimum. really kicking myself for not buying a couple crates of these things when they were $100 a pop.

My limit is 1k, was heavily debating mosin or just getting a AR of from palmetto armory, but I want it match my extra room I use for my library/game room

Hold up buddy, saying $1k is your limit while knowing nothing worries me you are about to do something retarded and make a boomer rich.
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of mosins I would spend $1k on, but thats because there are about a billion variations and some are rare,

If 1k is your limit, and youre set on buying a surplus rifle, there are a lot better options than a mosin. Swedish mausers and Enfields for $6-700, or hell get an 03A3 for $8-900

          >my limit is 1k
People like you are the worst kinds of gun buyers, it is a mosin not something actually nice. There are so many rifles you could get for 1k and you choose one of the worst, I mean shit for $1300 you could get an expert grade CMP garand half that for a lower grade.

          >cleaning

$300 mosins that aren't chinese or completely rusted to shit do still exist but they require some looking around and checking local places occasionally.
I got mine for $250 and it's one of the nicest 91/30's I've ever seen, this was only 2 years ago and it was from a gun show of all places.

Zoomers and milsurp are incompatible. There is inherent patience required that they do not have.

“I got lucky at a gunshow” isn’t really saying much for the state of mosin prices. Locally I only found one mosin and it was marked at $400 for a 44 izhevsk that wasn’t even matching. I’m happy you got lucky but again, the days of sub-$300 mosins are long gone.

If you're hell bent on a Mosin and you have 1k to spare, look at a Sako M39. The Finngolians actually made the Mosin a decent shooter and they're as accurate as you can get a mosin while still looking like a classic military rifle.

I've had one for 5 years and it's my favorite of the milsurp rifles I have.

make sure you have the bayonet on when you shoot your 91/30, or be prepared to peen the front sight way over. if you don't do one or the other it will shoot way to the right. The rifles were zeroed with the bayonets attached

I don't get why the fuck anyone would buy a Mosin now that they're $500+...I had a few a decade ago and they were sort of OK, but fuck you can have something that shoots better out of the box with less headache if you just go buy a Ruger American.

Finnish M39 would be top of the Mosins, and a Finnish Army armory refurbished ”new” are most desireable, if found.

Thanks anons. I'll buy the mosin and it's cleaning stuff as it's going to be unavoidable for the corrosion ammo. I'll do deep dives on the production variants, but mostly try to get 91/30 <$700

No, the cleaning kits are stupid and will just wear out your barrel faster. Use a bore snake.$500 is the max rape price you should pay for a 91/30.

        >cleaning kits are stupid and will just wear out your barrel faster
No they fucking won't, moron. A bronze brush is much softer than barrel steel. Firing a jacketed bullet through the bore causes much more wear.
        >Use a bore snake
Bore snakes are for quickly wiping out a bore, not properly cleaning it.

Get a Dewey cleaning rod and some decent patch jags, brushes ect.
I use the 22 an 30 rod for every rifle and shotgats I have for years. So much better than fiddlefucking around with the cheapass multipiece kits.
