How can I safely dispose this thing can I do it with my bare hands or do I need special equipment

Anon, NO. While I recognize it's not a cluster munition, you should still treat every explosive as if it's NOT inert until proven otherwise. A failure to detonate is no such proof.

When I was in Afghanistan a child found an ancient 40mm grenade (Mk 19) that had to have been sitting in the dirt for years.

Get the longest pair of tongs you can find (preferably 10+ feet) and a big bucket of water. Put the shell in the water. You can wear safety glasses if you have any and it makes you feel better. Once it's in the big bucket of water it's relatively safe, and you can go dump it in your village well. Water is an excellent explosion absorber.

        >OP uses the village internet for advice from /k/ on EOD operations
Frick me I love this timeline.
        >Is it safe if we leave it just here?
No but unless you have a safe way to dispose of it on site, you really shouldn't touch it.
As long as no one goes near it, no one bangs on the roof really hard, and there isn't a substantial amount of wind that knocks it loose, you're fine.
If it absolutely MUST move, the best I could suggest is giving it a VERY GENTLE tug to see if it'd come loose, if not, it lives there now, if it slips free, VERY CAREFULLY take it somewhere well away from the area VERY SLOWLY.
Before you remove and move it, MAKE SURE EVERYONE IN THE AREA AND ALONG THE PATH YOU PLAN TO TAKE TO DISPOSE OF IT IS AWARE OF WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO AND REMAINS WELL AWAY FROM YOU.
        DO NOT ROTATE/REORIENT IT.
AT THIS POINT YOU WILL BE CARRYING A LIVE EXPLOSIVE, DO NOT PANIC, DO NOT RUN, MAKE EVERYONE AROUND YOU AWARE OF THE DANGER AND TO KEEP WELL AWAY, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY:
        DO
        NOT
        FRICKING
        DROP
        IT
Once out of range of anyone, locate the nearest firearm/explosive, stay as far back as humanly possible, and take pot shots at it until it goes off.
If you have no means of setting it off from a distance, cover the object from view, and place the brightest and most clearly labeled "THIS IS A BOMB" sign you can make on it, then leave it until someone with actual EOD training can deal with it.

Goddamn. How's the internet speed out there?

Anyway, just leave the mortar alone. It's not entirely safe for it to be up on the roof, but it's a lot safer there than it would be in your hands. It looks pretty thoroughly wedged in place, so there'd be a good chance that the amount of force it would take to pull it loose would set it off. Also, shouldn't you be asking your neighbor about this, not us? I mean, it's his house that'll be destroyed if the mortar explodes.

Oh jesus, okay, that probably means there's no qualified experts around to sort that one out. Best bet at this point is to simply leave it exactly where it is. It didn't go off on impact, so as long as it stays right where it landed it shouldn't be triggered.

Although this is probably the best advice i know i wouldnt follow it if it was my family at risk.
Blast radius is what 20 meters? Evacuate everyone around, tie a long rope to it and drag it a safe distance away. Im not an EOD guy so it could be terrible advice.

        Don’t use tongs.
        Clear the area first
        Get a long stick.
        Get a rope
Tie the rope around the end of the mortar round then around the stick, use leverage to hoist the round upward, then keep the round suspended and very carefully carry it somewhere far away and have your local warlord throw a grenade at it. Better yet, throw it at whoever shot it.

        Don't touch it.
        Do not touch it.
        Do. Not. Touch. It.
        DO NOT TOUCH IT.
The mortar is happy and asleep right now, don't wake it up.

Call police or fire department, they will then pass things on to the bomb squad. Or you might be able to find the bomb squad's information on social media and try contacting them directly. He should probably take out anything valuable from the room below the mortar. The bomb squad should be able to do things without damage, but there's always the chance. Also, the sun won't bother the mortar at all, just leave it alone.

If there's no one around-- have at least 45m of rope and yank the fricker. If it doesn't go off, drag it away. try and be around the corner/prone when you do it.

Hoisted it will revolve around the rope's axis wich is exactly what you do not want to do.
Get it into a wheelbarrow with mud where it will remain inert while you wheel it out of the village.

If you hate your neighbor, make a fire on/around the mortar shell.
If you dont i have few home remedies for this issue.
      >tie rope around finned base
      >attach other end to the sudanesenuts village donkey
      >slap donkey in the ass
      >either it blows up when pulled out or when it hits the ground, if not, winrar

dont care, its not your neighbors problem now.

Now if you want to have fun and you keep downies and other morons in hellhole mental institutions that would make middle ages torturer gag from disgust, i have a perfect plan.
      >tie shiny colorful shit around mortar, maybe few candies
      >get the most docile but dumb moron/downi
      >give him candy, then point at the pimped out mortar shell and tell him theres more candy over there
      >take cover
      >either you hear boom or hear the moronic joy of the man who found more candy and then brings you the unexploded mortar

But yeah call up someone who deals with unexploded ordnance

safe for you or safe for the building?
    if just safe for you
get a long rope at least 25 meters, tie a lasso knot and plate the slacken knot around it gently.
pull the knot closed and then drag, not pull drag the thing to where you want it to be. Keep the full length of the rope between you and the mortar round so go in one straight direction. Think about where you are dragging it, go over your route and make sure there are no obstructions or things it could get snared on

    or call bomb disposal

is the safest, but don't walk near it, find like a 100m rope and walk a huge circle around the mortar, then pull the rope taught from behind the sandbags. you also probably need to tie weights on the rope to make it stick better.

Evacuate the area for 75 meters and try pulling into the street with a 75 meter rope, if it doesn't go off use grain bags full of sand at least 1.5 meters tall to surround it, leave the top open. Have one of the army guys tape a gernade with a losened pin and a brick to a stick and put itnside. Use the rope to set off the gernade and mortar round from 75 meters, the blast will mostly go up.

Yes they do they brought back electricity, water and other services, and the lieutenant gave our neighborhood a starlink ( I am using rn).
they are actually doing their job of protecting civilians and helping them.
            Almost everyone is backing saf.
Half of the teenagers in my neighborhood are mobilising next week should I go too
Maybe I could get an ak104 and post it here...

If you feel you must help out than try to find volunteer work near where you live. get involved with your community and help out where you can. Hell you can read and write English if you are on this site. And you have access to the internet with the help of your army friend. work together with him to try diplomacy actions with other English speaking country's to get more relief aid from them maybe. That is the best thing you can be doing for your son and family right now. Not throwing your old bones into the fires of war and hoping you do not get burned. Use your old man brain to think your way out of problems not your old fists to hope you can punch your way out of fights you can not win. Be clever as the wise men of old once said.

This is definitely the smartest thing to do. As someone that speaks English well and has an internet connection you'd be immensely valuable just sharing knowledge, helping your community and trying to inform the outside world.

              >should I go too
Do you not have any other productive work?
Can someone else in your family support your family and you if you are crippled?
Are you skilled at any military tasks?
Are they really hurting for bodies?
A 30 year old with a family shouldn't join unless the answer to all three of these questions is "yes".

17-25 year old men make better recruits, they are faster healing, faster learning, faster to build good cardiovascular conditioning, and less likely to have pre-existing conditions or old injuries which might render them casualties without enemy action.
They aren't as good at soldiering as the "old men" in their 30s, but only if the "old men" have been soldiering since their teens or early 20s, and have a strong base of experience to draw from. Which doesn't sound like you do.

Also I would really to get an ak it would be nice to feel like I can protect my family
Although there's no rsf here most of them were droned to death.
Also in TV they said theose who get mobilized will only remain in their reigon no going to frontlines which sounds good considering the saf are gaining more ground these days.
As of now the frontline is 3 km from me
Which is why they able to mortar us although saf left this place for the front soon this won't happen again...

If you have significant medical training (even if not fully complete) and no productive work, inquire about working with their medical corps. It's not a front line position, it will perhaps the single greatest increase in combat potential one man can contribute, and it is a very moral choice to make, especially if you care for the men from your village who are volunteering for combat. Maybe you get an AK too, but maybe not. In either case, being a father for your son is more important than having an AK specifically, and you can always get one in some other manner.

also, if you decide to listen to the idiots telling ya to pull it with a rope use one much longer than 20 meters and pull from behind cover. if is has a radius of 20m that just mean 90% likely to die within radius. it does not mean that it's safe outside of it, just less likely to catch a fragment of shrapnel in the vitals.

No actually you should just get an inspection every for each one but we have arm stores that sell ar15 and m4 shotguns as we use them mainly in marriage ceremonies.
Thing is 6 months ago when omdurman was under rsf occupation there was something called dagalo stores (referring to rsf supreme leader) in which rsfgays used to sell goods ,civilian cars, civilian clothes and decoration they stole from the houses of people who fled away early
And it also sold fricking arms
From videos on internet they were selling ak47/74 norinco cqs g3k and all legitimate full auto.
I asked someone I know and he said an ak47 was for 180000 sdg=180 us dollars as of now

The saf 99% the rsf just can't fricking compete all they have is big numbers
They attack with the meat wave strategy since day one and are still willing to do its like God is just blinding them to die no name no identity in mass grave near karari mountains.
All there is ak47 m16 g3 zu23 aa 60 mm mortars and Toyota trucks with dshk or zsu mounted.
The best things they have are rusty t55 tanks and old apc and maybe few kornets
We are talking Sudanese armed with 300 t72s 3000 armoured vehicles special forces marines and AIRFORCE
Its about probably about 8-9 months and rsf will surrender they can't take more losses they have no medics nothing SAF played a successful attrition war losing only 4000 soldiers since 4/15 while rsf lost about 70000 according to news and footage
they can't win now saf controls 70% of sudan most rsf who were in Khartoum fled to Chad (mig 29 is a b***h)
Tl;dr rsf are like bugs they have no experience (look how they behave in their videos) and will die and be forgotten like 2009

Do they lie and say the guns of the enemy are not real and can not hurt them? There is no way you can just tell men to charge trench lines like that anymore. What you said is unironicly what they tell them they never speak or tell them what happened to the people before them.
There is also a belief in those places in nomadic arab tribes that men from those tribes are some kind of undefeatable knights or supermans. Also god just hates them look at what they did to maslit tribe in western Darfur they buried 15000 men alive raped their wives and children ritually. What convinces a man that this is the right way to live?

Well rsf are literally the janjaweed being official don't need to explain them they're pretty known they believe in satanic witchcraft maybe you should watch a documentary about the their name actually (janjaweed) translates to:
                Janja:demons/jinn
                Jaweed:horse
                Demons on horses = janjaweed
They have no religion or manners they the scum of the earth all they do is rob, rape, escape
Also the tribes that make the majority of RsF's soldiers (mseria/rezeqat) are well known and hated by most tribes in sudan for being racist and scummy there's a running joke in sudan that men from these tribes don't even know their grandparents or even parents and that their mothers just spread their legs to random strangers (اولاد الضيوف )

If you still feel like doing this than talk to your army friend that got you internet first. And if he says no then do as he says so you do not get killed like a moron.

, going for a walk like that seems like a really bad idea.

I think the mothers just spread their legs to random strangers thing may just be a method of survival among the women of those kinds of tribes. Like you hear about that kind of thing all over the world. The men of those tribes are so violent and murderous that the women do anything and everything they can to keep from being the mens next victims. As they have all seen what happens to those that do not give them what they want.

It happens all the time in Africa and south America with the mad tribes that live there. And in China the ruling class mass murders anyone they think is starting to think for themselves. So it may just be any group that thinks they are losing power and control over others will lash out as hard as they can to regain what they have lost no matter the blood they must spill.

    >Also will heat of the sun make it go off?
    No.

It's almost certainly not going to blow up if you wiggle it. You can probably pick it up and carry it away safely but I wouldn't want to take the chance. I'd tie a rope to it and gently pull it loose from around a corner to a safe spot. It looks small (60-81mm) so the blast isn't a danger if it blows up, only the shrapnel.

  22. 2 weeks ago

Tie a rope around the mortar shell, just below the fins. Then tell the mortar "You will never be a real missile."

41% chance it'll be dangling off the edge of the roof by morning.

    3. If you can't find (1), get about 100 metres of strong rope, make a loop around it with a loose 'snake' so the rope stays slack until you pull on it. Get everybody behind walls then pull. Pull it so it falls into the street. Wait 10minutes after it falls. Then come forward, surround it with a 'box' of 3 layers of tyres and sandbags. Put an explosive charge of at least 100g TNT next to it at the fuze (tip part with different colour metal) and get everybody behind walls again to detonate it.
    4. If you cant do (3), pay the dumbest guy you know $5 to carefully pick it up and carry it out of town. Stay behind the walls until he has gone.

OP, do this basically except it's probably easier to dig a hole about a meter deep instead of doing the sandbag shit. If you can't find any TNT/unused hand grenades for the EOD shit, and you're not comfortable marking the hole and leaving it sit until the NGO guys or the SAF can bring an EOD tech out, put some planks over the hole, build a vigorous and well fueled fire on top of the planks, and let it burn through down into the hole. After it goes "pop", fill the hole in with the dirt you excavated making it.

I guess don't do the fire thing if there's significant fire risk, it may toss embers some distance, and setting wild fires is bad.

Only idea I have is to set the shell off by shooting it with a high-powered rifle from far away (at least 100m). It'll probably either jostle the fuse or destroy it.
It wouldn't save your neighbor's house but neither would untrained villagers messing with UXO. That would result in dead villagers AND a destroyed house.
That said, I'd evacuate everyone and everything of value around the mortar before the shot because there's no telling where shrapnel will go.

      Shooting it is the way.
It sounds stupid, but the force of being shot will either cause the mortar to detonate, or reveal that no amount of force you could apply will detonate it and it's therefore (Very relatively.) safe to handle

Because at the moment, you have no idea if the mortar shell is one gust of wind away from exploding, or completely inert, or somewhere in-between.

Last month rsf attacked western side of al fashir and the rsf lost like 1600 soldiers in one fricking these guys are like insects they die carelessly.
They also get droned around fashir every day saf soldiers call it "morning tea".

Are the Darfurian militias locals? Have things improved there at all?

Yes they are and it's improving for most people almost every day saf antinovs an aid package for both the army and civilian food munitions etc.
They are now building a field hospital for pregnant women to lay.
And rsf does nothing but bomb fashir all day in hope of truce or pressure the saf by injuring or killing civilians with those bombings but yeah it will take long...

What would you do other than tie a long rope to it and drag it into a padded cardboard box and then decide if you care enough to pick up the box and carry the mortar away.

It might go off and if you're nearby you are at risk of death and maiming.

  44. 2 weeks ago

Tie 50 meters long rope to it, hide behind some cover and drag it out from the roof using rope.
They drag it using rthe same long rope out into the fields preferably staying behind cover (like drive car and fill back seats with sandbags so they would protect you from shrapnel ig bomb goes off)

A long rope will be your best friend.
CAREFULLY tie the rope around the base and for the love of god do not jolt the mortar while doing so. Just make a loop below the fins.
Get everyone the frick away from windows and into safety. Get yourself behind solid cover and pull the rope. Hopefully it dislodges the mortar round and makes it fall into the street. It might detonate but hey, no more problem.
If it does not detonate, wait an hour and then stack sandbags or tires filled with sand around the thing.
Then wait until someone qualified can come dispose of it or some dumb frick scrap collector steals it in the middle of the night.

Both of these are protected by bulletproof glasses. In addition, 8 fully equipped troops can be carried by the rear compartment that also has small bulletproof windows and 10 associated firing ports.

Also there are additional options for buyers such as banks of smoke grenade launchers, NBC system and additional ceramic armour. These are reported to increase the protection against 12.7 mm machine guns up to 14.5 mm.

    0. Tell everyone to vacate the house and immediately adjacent building and go inside somewhere else.
    1. Tie a loose knot and throw it over the tail.
    2. Go around a corner.
    3. Pull gently to feel it tighten.
    4. Tug hard to dislodge it.
If it goes pop it's alright, problem solved, and the walls will require a bit of fixing.
    5. If no pop: Wait a few minutes after you've dislodged it.
    6. Roll a wheelbarrow with mud near it.
    7. Place it un such a manner so thay when you pull the rope again, the thing goes up into the wheelbarrow.
    8. Ho behind the corner again and pull the rope until you feel you got it inside and into the mud.
    9. You can safely cart it out into the wild now.
    10. You can now take potshots at it from behind cover or set a fire or whatever to make it go off.

What are the buildings in Sudan made out of? That doesn't look like concreete. Also if you compared the damage in your village to what we have seen in Ukraine, how do you think your buildings would hold up?

        Had enough

It's not a village. This is omdurman in Khartoum (capital).
Most buildings here are made of concrete and red bricks that part of my neighbor's house is more of a shed with air conditioning and beds that most people build of cheap material as it's the least important part of the house we call it (Rakoba) it's a place where people gather lie in beds have tea or just sleep in the noon it's part of our culture. Some buildings in the centeral city are even
built with thermal bricks! This is sudan not Zimbabwe. In 2016 we were close to being a decent African country (almost first world) we had the best living standards in Africa back in 2008.
Most families here have their own houses
Instead of living in apartments (which make less than 30% of Khartoum's structure. And by that you get omdurman city almost twice as big as New York but with only 5 million people living.
Most buildings will hold fine although the war in sudan is just an insurgency against a rebel group not peer to peer war like Ukraine rsf doesn't have airforce or divisions they are just like raiders but more stupid.

            My point stands
Read the housing part of the post again.
            In harare it's 10 story building in Khartoum it's a neighborhood .
Most people here prefer having their own houses separated.
It's like comparing American suburbs to city centres. does not having high buildings mean a city is bad?
High buildings are neither an indicator of good living standards or civility.
All those good looking buildings and still Zimbabwe's GDP is just 27 billion compared to Sudan's 88 billion.

Isn’t that the same for all cities? A guy in Chicago will say how it’s better than Kansas City, a guy in Sofia will say how it’s better than Minsk, a guy in Seoul will say how it’s better than Rangoon, and in this case a guy in Khartoum will say how it’s better than Harare (honestly I couldn’t choose between Khartoum and Harare, on one hand Khartoum has to deal with constant hostile arseholes, on the other hand the other city is in fricking Zimbabwe)
