As someone who drank whiskey to celebrate when Kiwi Farms came back online and would love to kick Keffals in the ribs till he sobs, you should probably take a break from the troonwatching and make some tea. You're starting to get all worked up about them when it just isn't relevant, and all that does is make anyone who criticizes rampant troon groomers look irrational by association.

Simple. We stopped caring about doing something in european cooperation at all cost and did our own stuff ourselves.
      Works everytime.
Also money. It's a pricey ATGM.

Lmao seethe more NAFO moron. There are countless US made components in russian missiles, I bet the US have violated the embargo too then?
Step it up a bit please. All deliveries were old contracts that had to be honored because the french don't steal, it's a matter of credibility.

They got to the niche first. All that tech exists in many places on the market, Akeron is just the first try at bringing all that network enabled goodness to a shoulder launched missile. LRPM for Apache is going to going towards very similar attributes.

      Exactly.

I am a burger who is tired of the constant low effort trolling and obvious Internet Defense Force shillery, but Akeron is a legitimately exciting missile that deserves to be discussed.
Like how someone finally put a decent blast fragmentation effect on an ATGM, since they get used against so many things other than tanks.

      Thanks ameribro.

MMP isn’t really good. Alot of problems with the seeker being fooled. Let’s just discuss it’s combat record to settle this matter

      >MMP isn’t really good. Alot of problems with the seeker being fooled
Again this bong fake news coming straight from the BBC (Bong Bullshit Central).

      Anyway, some videos:
      5000m firing:

Real time in flight target switch (with lieutenant colonel Pierre Voldemort):

      Cold weather qualification:

Firing from an RHIB, featuring le ebin frog accent honhonhon

And lastly some CGI video from MBDA presenting the AKERON family, since they thought it would be a good idea to change the missile name because reasons. Said family currently is to be made of two missiles, Akeron MP and Akeron LP, the second one, RF guided, being designed to replace the Hellfire in 2028-2030. Maybe additional missiles will join the family in the future, like with the Spike family of missiles, but nothing certain.

Years ago I did stuff with torpedoes -- Mk 48 ADCAP, MK50 -- the electronics on those fish looked different than what you saw on consumer electronics.

This was said by all the detractors of all of the weapons that currently have the best combat records, when those weapons were in development. You need to develop weapons in order to have them. You don't make any sense.

It’s a missile no one asked for. The market for man portable ATGMs demands a man portable, semi long range 2-5km, top attatck, fire and forget munition. No one asked for LOAL, NLOS, or handing off to other systems (lmao). Give the people what they want

      Anonymous

Nah, both the current ATGM procurements in the USA (only country that matters in terms of military affairs) are going for LOAL, network centric, long range munitions. CCMS-H and LRPM are both headed that way. Drones are a more cost-effective platform so they're already doing this, but the industry wants more.
The current generation of fire-and-forget munitions will fight for the scraps in contracts with nations that don't really matter for anything on their own, like South Korea.

Mmp was a stupid name and akeron also is
But it sounds more brutal, so they got that going

        Anonymous

what a strange name, doesn't seem french enough to me.
maybe its the k and lack of accents

          Anonymous

It's a stupid way of writing Acheron, the mythological river.
But there's more. As you see the Akeron family is made of the MP and LP missiles.
At first these missiles were called MMP for Missile Moyenne Portée, medium range missile, and MLP, for Missile Longue Portée, long range missile.
Sounds logical right? Except MLP is also the acronym of Marine LePen's name, the far right leader of the Front National, as used by the press in France.
So they added MHT to the MLP denomination, meaning Missile Haut de Trame, Top Frame Missile, which doesn't make any sense, except for tactical strategists advisors in a chair. Plus MHT sounds in french like "aime acheter" which means "love to buy". So it's still stupid. You tell MLP MHT to a french and he'll answer: "Sorry I don't get it, you say Marine LePen loves to buy, loves to buy what?"
          https://www.forcesoperations.com/amp/le-missile-mht-de-mbda-retenu-pour-armer-les-tigre-de-lalat/
So they renamed the whole MLP/MHT thing into MAST-F which was supposed to be the name for the programme, but is still the name of a missile technically.
Standing for Missile Air Sol Tactique Futur, future air to ground tactical missile. MAST-F was supposed to sound like "mastiff". But french people don't know much about british dogs.

So finally MBDA had enough and changed the whole thing again, using some dumb SMS language writing AKERON instead of Achéron, because again people wouldn't know how to pronounce that I guess. But keeping MP and LP designations which again makes no sense in english.
They should have went with MR and LR.

But the best part in all this still is they managed to add 2 IR seekers onto the missile, which makes it look like a frog.
          I'm not kidding. Pic related.
So I don't know if this missile will be successful, but I'm sure it has the potential to become a meme quite fast and will probably be called by /k/ the AkerHONHON or the frog missile, something like that.

Every country have that problem with short acronym. You can only do so short before it overlap with half of your arsenal and accidentally insult someone.

At least the CAESAR have great name. Literally the french acronym for "Truck equipped with an artillery system".

              True.
France has commando groups which name translated to "deep search action commandos" in english.
In french it was "Commandos de Recherche et d'Action en Profondeur"
              Or "CRAP".
