Miniaturization of optical paths just got real, are you ready for 25x zoom scopes the size of an MRO?

It’s like reading about the capabilities of Russian wunderwaffens.

      >We identified a useful application, compressing space. And then we showed that we could actually design and experimentally demonstrate plates that do exactly that.
there is an actual demonstration of it working in the article

Why I have feeling that cunts like these would complain in the same way if they used words
      >certainly
      >surely
      >without a doubt

I'm sure you believed all of the hyperloop bullshit too? Mag lev super sonic vacuum tube train? The media said it could be done!! But scientists say no and you just have to drive a car manually in a tunnel. Close enough right?

      maybe in 20 years.

      Are you a fucking retard?

      >"We have to makeup a new set of rules"
      >"Nobody knows what it is"
That inspires so much confidence, wow.
Retards from universities should leave camera/optics technology to the actual professionals in the industry instead of thinking of theoretical shit they have actual concept of.
Water as a medium is more proven than this garbage.

        Stay mad incompetent fag.
Technology like this will not see daylight because companies won't invest into it.
Water based mediums are current speculated on and barely get much attention.
The actual cost to research technologies like this when they don't even have a single clue into the right direction is billions.

PrepHole here, actually really cool. I wonder what effect it has on chromatic aberration

It'll first be used either in some million dollar instrumentation or high-end phone cameras, then you're looking at 5-10 years minimum before it gets to weapon optics

I’d say if it actually works it will be on phone cameras pretty soon. It took less than a decade for machine learning based image processing to start appearing on phones, and there is actual pressure and innovation in that market. So, phones in 5 to 10 years, cameras after that, optics after that

Implementing software is not the same as creating an entirely new supply chain for a physical product.
