Military surplus

Where does PrepHole get their surplus? Online or do you got to a surplus/thrift store to find what you want?

Most stuff in there is fake or replica but I did manage to get an authentic tiger stripe hat, the lady wanted $20 but I bargained down to $11

With military surplus, yea its easy to tell. By the fabric to the labels. For example, chink made shit sometimes have yellow export labels even though the tagging is labeled as "trouser, army combat uniform" like an ACUs. Even though those labels are place in the wrong place because there are no MARPAT ACUs and the label is placed on the jacket lol. Not only that, it says "ripstop" even though the fabric looks to be twill. And its probably just some polyester shit than Nylon/cotton.

Any legitimate South Vietnam tiger stripe for Western size was made by tailors so they don't have labels other than the size usually

No because the tiger stripe uniforms that any LRRP, Green Beret or Navy SEAL or Mac V Sog guys wore in country was made usually from Okinawa or local South Vietnamese tailors none of it was issued through any government agency or procurement. The ERDL stuff was US issued I believe but I only wear Tigers because of my ARVN family

A big indicator is material cuz they used to use cotton nobody had polyester I don't even believe rip stop was around for the majority of the war if not any of it so usually it comes down to looking and feeling the material of the clothing

ripstop didn’t get introduced until the 90s, 80s had them utilizing twill and such. The Vietnam war had soldiers utilizing heavy cotton uniforms

A lot of the Navy seals talk of wearing jeans because the Cami pants that they were able to use were such a thin cotton that usually split at the groin area or got shredded up because of the elephant blade grass so they ended up using blue jeans, they also talk of wearing pantyhose to protect against leeches

                Anonymous

Yea, because uniforms before the 80s were just 100 % cotton weave or something. In the 80s they introduced nyco fabric which made military uniforms more durable along with having more manufacturing techniques like twill and such. The 90s introduced nyco ripstop, which is light weight and durable and can keep you cool in the heat. In the mid 80s, they slightly went back to 100% cotton because the Grenada campaign had soldiers complaining about how hot the uniforms is. So

Was thinking about going to Hoi An and getting a suit and then finding a place to shoot some guns and rockets, maybe Cambodia.

The cafe next door to the bunker has nothing to do with it, they were trying to capitalize on the history of the place and the government gave them shit for trying to con people. The holes in the concrete are from the cafe owner trying to drill into it for his own financial gain, not from "escape routes" that people are told erroneously. My nephew and I went to it in April, I have some videos but the files are too large to upload here.

Surplus stores can be hit or miss, they are usually run by the same boomers "who know what they got" on gunbroker and at gun shows. I've been finding a lot of good stuff at reasonable price on Facebook groups dedicated to camo/surplus/GWOT stuff. Occasionally you'll find a deal online at Varusteleka or one of the milsutp sites.

      Anonymous

Yea, physical stores can be a hit or miss, they either overcharge for a surplus or have "authentic" that is from some chink manufacturing shit like rothco. I found ebay to be a good place for genuine surplus stuff, as you can get your money back if the seller decides to screw you over.

Mostly the IRL surplus store now. ~2015 was the last hurrah. Most of the reason surplus is dead is just classic supply and demand economics. all those cold war (Reagan now) era lots have been sold, split, resold, split, sold again, on and on and on for ~30+ years now. Sure, there are still forgotten warehouses in whogivesafuckistan full of shit from the irrelevent peoples' army but those are finite and running out too. If you notice all the wearable normal person sizes are snapped up at a premium almost as soon as they're listed. Hell, I've even seen repro companies make copies of shit that was common as late as 5 years ago now.
Another good reason the age of surplus is over is because the age of large conscript armies is over with the cold war. In Europe, several countries have had multiple equipment changes but none had nearly the same amount as the older 80's stuff since they simply didn't need that much for their small volunteer armies that didn't do much anyways since decolonization wars are long over. Plus, European governments are big on the whole PR and "social responsibility" thing so they don't want bad guys, whether foreign or domestic terrorists, to run around wearing their uniform.
Speaking of politics, it is a lot more dangerous than ever to get into the trade. I started more than a decade ago while I was in college to pay for textbooks and beer. At one point my dorm room looked like a SEAL team gear room from all the trips I made to the flea market over the weekend; used to march across campus with an ILBE full of gear and occaisionally helmets hanging off the outside too. YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP those were the days!!! Can't do that no mo' since you'd just get accused of being a """potential mass shooter""" and red flagged to death.

What kind of milsurp clothing is most sought after? Is it modern day useful shit like AOR1 gear, or is it functional slightly older stuff?

Depends on your market. I've sold it all, granted to different people (tacticool hypebeasts aren't exactly buying vintage field jackets). I will say from experience though that the vintage clothing PrepHoleggots are the worst to deal with.
      >muh aesthetics gayry
      >can't read a fucking size chart or even the fucking label
      >always asking for weird measurements
      >social engineering attempts and fuck-fuck games
      >bullshit return requests

The only saving grace is that they occasionally hilariously overpay for random shit, but it's almost not worth dealing with them.

There's a bit of a fracas right now on the US Militaria Forum of some pinup model who bought an expensive WASP document from a legit dealer, then proceeded to dismantle the professional framing, photograph it, claim it's a fake (it wasn't), and demand a full refund for the item anyways and defame the dealer as a fraudster (without responding to any of his messages, public or private I might add). That's the sort of bullshit the PrepHole crowd likes to pull.

This happened when I was in college
          >guy on ebay bought M65 from me
          >listing has pictures of a missing snap, written in description multiple times
          >demands refund on the grounds it's "not as described"
          >he's local so say I can meet him at a police station or some public place
          >demands to go in-person to my """store""" to hand-select for himself from my current stock
          >have to say I'm just an individual seller and have no business of any kind
          >next day while in class, get a message that he's "on his way" to go to my address
          >ends up getting lost on campus because lol dorms
          >messages me asking "where's the store???? this is the university?!"
          >don't respond and report him to eBay
Apparently there was an incident while he was on campus and got escorted off premise by the rent-a-cops considering the campus PD sent a "Notification of resolved suspcious individual incident" to everyone via email blast. And that was the day I decided to start renting a PO Box.

Yeah, this was almost 10 years ago. Pretty sure there would be a fucking active shooter lockdown if he tried that shit nowadays. Anyways his account got b& from eBay and I never heard from him again. He never got his refund either. lol, lmao even.
I had another similar incident a few years after that where a PrepHoleommando drove to my PO box address across multiple county lines. Strip mall security pretty much told him to fuck off without further incident based on what the staff told me after the fact.

It was county lines in the same state and was another "item not described because I don't want to read the description or look at the photos" deal. I'm pretty transparent in disclosing flaws, etc and accept returns in the odd case that I didn't find something. Sadly there are a lot of shitheads in the population now. I personally blame amazon since they seem to treat every seller, be it a big box corp or even individual sellers like me, as if we all offered 2-day free shipping and unlimited returns with full refunds even if you send back a rock. Haven't had to file a police report yet though lmfao.

Exactly. Used to be skiddies on ebin l33t h4x0r forums scamming big box retailers for free x-boxes and playstations, but nowadays I've even seen boomers do it for antique militaria. Always some variation of "charity" or "private foundation" to "preserve history" or "instill patriotic values in the youth" or some shit like that. Sad thing is some gays fall for it, donate that high $$$ item which the scammer then turns around and sells on eBay, sometimes under the same account he initially messaged the original owner with.

Yeah, kinda. Through wacky mishaps and stupidity, some postal worker reported that they were shipping real AT mines and that one had exploded. ATF swoops in and demands to know who they had been sent to, and they complied. Not saying they were in the right, but if they legitimately thought some of the mines might go off, it's more understandable.
Lord willing, I would not have complied in that situation, but I'm sure they were threatened with both figurative and literal ass rape.
