I have gotten rid of my porn addiction for a bit, stopped my onlyfans obsession, lost weight, and am have been saving money. I've always wanted a gun, something for defense at home just in case. I live in the shithole known as Racine, I am seeing more violence in the news and am a bit worried. Ammo is not a worry, I don't want to have to shoot this gun a whole lot if I am being that honest. It would give me a good reason to get out of the house, but I am not like worried about needing to buy much ammo. Is the maverick 88 12 gauge good for a first owner? It is fairly cheap so I think it is.
based mav
get a fanny pack too and some esstac shell cards
spiritus systems fanny is prob the best but any one will do
https://skdtac.com/spiritus-systems-fanny-sack-pouch-mk2/
for upgrades a magpul 590 stock and light and sling of your choice wouldnt hurt
tfb made a pretty gud vid on the mav too
>get a fanny pack too and some esstac shell cards
Thank you, will do. Those esstac shell cards look really cool. What do they do? I feel happy because I have always assumed I would never own a firearm due to being broke, haha.
they just hold your shells
they also have a velcro back and come with a strip of velcro you stick on the side of your shotguns reciever
the idea is you have a full card on the gun and when its empty just rip it off and replace it with a full card
get the 7 rounders they are the same size as a .556 mag so they will sit nicely in chest rigs and such

Congrats, anon.
My first gun purchase was a Mossberg 500, which is just a slightly better version of the exact same gun.
It's still my favorite.
if you can actually shoot it. yes it will do fine. I would get a simple flashlight mount.
other current market recommendations are:
>heritage/revolver in .22 MAG +HP rounds, there are six and nine shot. six should be fine
>charger 10/22 it is a pistol size 10/22, so you can get 30 rounds out of it
personal belief is that if you get a maverk 88, get it in 20 guage, because it tends to be more of a youth round and if you actually turn to like the shooting sports after, you will have less buyers remorse over needing to buy a better shotgun 12 ga and can use that one as a learning shotgun.
2nding the 20 gauge, it'll still put someone down in HD distance with the right load, plus it's a handier gun. Ammo is more expensive though. I have a Mossberg 510 in 20ga that I keep loaded with rifled hollow point slugs in 2 3/4" shells.
You mean ray scene
Great choice anon, welcome to the club
>conquered porn addiction
>losing weight
>saving money
>now taking an interest in his natural rights and protecting his community
congratulations on sorting yourself out, king. enjoy your new shotgun. you're going to end up spending more on ammo then you think though, once you realize that shooting guns is fun as fuck
>>now taking an interest in his natural rights and protecting his community
more like finding a new money pit
A man needs his toys.
>why yes, I do trade all of my disposable income for durable goods that hold their value while also providing me with protection and a healthy hobby
>onlyfans? sorry, sex "work" is not real work. why would I pay for that?
Kek. But that anon is right either way. Once you get past a CCW pistol and a long arm, it's just for funsies unless you actually use your gun like a tool.
Look how easy it is to spend big bucks on this hobby.
>Buy Glock 19 $500
>Can't hit shit because I suck so buy Timney trigger $150
>Can't hit shit because I suck so buy better sights $100
>Realize it's not the sights or trigger but me (around 500 to 1000 dollars in on ammo)
>Start competing in USPSA to get better
>Spend thousands on ammo
>Buy competition holster, belt, mag pouches
>realize I need a better gun to keep up with the heavier metal framed full size pistols
>Look into new better and bigger 4x as expensive handgun
>Rinse and repeat
And that's just from a pistolero only perspective. There's people who compete and dabble on anything from skeet/sporting clays to precision rifles competitions. I've spent another 6k on some competition carbines for USPSA. This is a money sink. Don't get sucked into consumerism like I did though. I'm selling all my shit and basically sticking with my CCW and a rifle. The fact of the matter is I'd rather own two good guns and get damn good with them than own 20 guns, gadget and gizmos collecting dust in the safe. If you're gonna collect do so because you honest to god love collecting guns, I don't. I love shooting them though. So if you're gonna spend money on guns, spend it on ammo.
Guns are my least expensive hobby behind radio (ham, scanners, etc.) and cars.
It's all a matter of choice, honestly. Some people buy a cheapo .22 and plink every now and then while high end collector guns cost 6 figures easy. It's not too different from many other hobbies, it's about how serious you get into it.
i would sooner give everything i have to the merchants at S*g before giving an onlythot one single penny
I own one and I can say it’s God
If you're only going to have one gun get an AR15, they're way more versatile and you can upgrade it as you go
Aeroprecision and PSA have some decent starter rifles for pretty cheap
Tbh, I would just get an ar. Shotguns do work for home defense, but you'd want to get a decent amount of practice to make sure you don't short-stroke it under pressure. An ar, on the other hand is basically point and shoot.
This anon is low on cash, did you not read his post? AR ammo is far more expensive than 12g. it's better for a beginner to have an affordable entry gun so they shoot more and get deeper into the hobby without breaking the bank
>AR ammo is far more expensive than 12g
The only 12ga ammo that's cheaper than 5.56 is birdshot which is useless for home defense. If you have some sources showing otherwise, please post them. That said, you do make a good point about affordability, so I'll change my suggestion to a pcc. Both the hi-point and the kel-tec can be had for <$300 and 9mm is still reasonably priced.
I'll concede that buckshot and birdshot are more expensive per round than 5.56 & .223. However I'd argue the versatility of shotguns combined with the inherent greater fun of shooting clay pigeons with a shotgun as opposed to shooting paper and steel with an AR or PCC outweighs the perceived benefits of an AR. I'd also refute this John Wick-inspired idea that people keep parroting about AR's being the optimal home defense firearm.
Gone over this in other threads so I'll just put it out there quickly: if you genuinely believe that birdshot is useless at home defense ranges, you are uninformed. If you genuinely do not believe that birdshot will not reliably kill at home defense ranges, you are uninformed. If you genuinely believe that birdshot will not incapacitate at home defense ranges, you are uninformed. At home defense ranges birdshot will penetrate clothing reliably, it will incapacitate reliably, and it will kill reliably. Observe:
12g testing at 9:20
penetration testing at 7:50
penetration testing at 17:00
variety of shot sizes on gel:
If you're closed-minded and deadset on holding onto your ignorant belief that birdshot won't kill, you still cannot refute that birdshot at home defense ranges will stop, incapacitate, and/or deter an attacker.
>inherent greater fun of shooting clay pigeons with a shotgun as opposed to shooting paper and steel
I'd see this as a valid argument were it not for OP saying that he doesn't want to shoot a lot. Any manual action is going to need more practice to get the same level of proficiency that you'd get with an auto.
>basically point and shoot
Reminder that Kyle Rittenhouse couldn't get through a single mag without a malfunction during kenosha.
That video single handedly convinced me that any entry level AR at least needs a forward assist. Gucci ARs can probably do without but a PSA or a S+W should have 'em.
and yet he still beat Gaige Grosskreutz at the draw.
Nah the maverick is fine. Especially if you like tinkering. Cheap shotguns are how I got into gunsmithing. Anyone who says an AR is gay and won't post guns. Shotgun is the most chad universal weapon out there.
Picrel is me. A hasguns.
Dawg first of all, congratulations on the self improvement. Second, the mav 88 is a fantastic choice for your situation. It's by far the best cheap gun
I love my '88, you literally cannot go wrong with a mossber. I actually prefer my maverick over the 590a1 because the tang safety would cut me.
I actually prefer tang safety, but it honestly isn't that big of a deal.
so is this a maverick or a moss in this pic
Look at the trigger. If you know you know.
88 has a crossbar safety in the trigger guard, 500& 590 have tang safety. Quickest way to tell the difference
Mossberg makes a good shotgun. I personally prefer Remington-- Their "Tac-14" is my favorite gun I own, and I prefer that the pump action does not rattle around, unlike Mossberg's "Shockwave"-- but Mossberg is often said to be at parity with them in terms of general quality. A good first owner.
You remind me of me
Buy a maverick 88 and copy this build

Practice at any range with it
Have fun and enjoy
