Mexico is apparently going to start ordering the 8x8 version of the Brazilian Guarani APC/IFV armed with a 40mm gun and NLOS munitions to replace about 2/3rds of the 450 old German and French 20mm armed tracked infantry fighting vehicles currently in service. How are these? The US also just bought an 8x8 variant of the platform for the USMC.
It looks gay so it might be shit
Pretty good. Mexico has needed to replace their VCI and HWK fleet since the 90s. I think half the replacements are going to be tracked and half wheeled. The 6x6 Guarani is okay but flips over easy due to weird center of gravity. They're related to the Centauro. The US version is a combination of the Guarani and the Freccia wheeled IFV which itself is also Centauro based. The 8x8 version being offered to export customers is called the SuperAV. That's probably what Mexico will get. Probably with the Bushmaster in super shot 40mm but Mexico might be retarded and get the 40mm CTA gun because they like French stuff.
>How are these?
Everything depends on the guts.
Digital systems and networking is what separates a 90s-era 8x8 and a modern 8x8.
what are the dimensions of the Bushmaster 40mm cartridge vs CTA 40mm?
Bushmaster 40mm Supershot is just the 30x173mm round but flat sided up to 40x180mm. You can get any MK44 to fire it by simply changing the barrel and two simple gun parts. Anything firing it carries the same ammunition capacity as a 30mm which is a huge draw. The French 40mm is a case telescoped munition which is larger overall but with more propellant. Newer tech. Detractors claim it's more problematic as it's new tech but that's yet to be proven. Koreans also bought the tech. It's already in use on the Jaguar and I think the Brits are going to use it too. Pic is the French option. Bushmaster 40mm is only as girthy as the interior shell. Pretty significant difference.
>Koreans also bought the tech.
Umm...No, I'm pretty sure they're on their own.
>what are the dimensions of the Bushmaster 40mm cartridge vs CTA 40mm?
Bushmaster 40mm is probably the same as 30x173mm, so 44mm rim diameter, 290mm total length.
CTA 40mm is 65mm diameter and 255mm total length.
Yeah the CTA is shorter but fatter
thanks
that would mean volumetrically the CTA is about 13% larger
I suppose it has better performance otherwise they would not fool with it
A turret with a CTAS40 and Akeron missiles isn't a bad combo.
Are they getting Akeron?
They are going to replace the MILAN missiles at some point. Mexico has a lot of them just sitting around. They were using them against those armored narco pickups in the late 2000s. They have a 30 year shelf life IIRC.
I'm still mad that Mexico selected the Sandcat instead of the VBR for their mainline combat utility. The French option was better armored, amphibious and came with a 20mm auto cannon standard. Imagine Mexico with 10,000+ of these. Mexico fucked itself not buying more French stuff. I pray they do select the French turret. It is the path to salvation and Akeron.
>but Mexico might be retarded and get the 40mm CTA gun because they like French stuff
Mexico might be retarded and get a vastly superior gun?
They have to compensate with a good gun for their retardation, like russians and their big gun
wait for him to say that the warrior is a pile of shit because of Le french gun (while the EBRC is doing just fine but whatever)
>Mexico has needed to replace their VCI and HWK fleet since the 90s.
Why? The Mexicans will never go to war against anybody other then the drug cartels, who have bribed the military and government into obedience, so even that won't happen.
yeah but the tracked vehicles are a pain to use for them since they have to move them on trucks and can't be easily used in their regular anti cartel operations, with the wheeled vehicles we will hopefully see some videos of them shooting the auto cannon at some cartel scum. they made a huge deal about the first time they used the mini guns on the Blackhawk to shoot cartel people during raids it was pretty awesome tbh.
Looks like a direct copy of Patria AMV from the outside.
>didnt go for Boxer
I never understood why Brazil does not physically own a 8x8 Guarani
Doctrine and they bought Centauro II instead.
That means their Guarani 8x8 is shit and the platform is only good for 6x6
The Guarani 8x8 is literally the exact same platform as the Centauro and Freccia. The hull of the Brazilian version is also different than the Italian version so it can be optioned to be amphibious like the Guarani.
The Guarani 8x8 doesn't exist.
Idk if the 8x8 version will ever be produced, i know the Centauro will be in Brazil, but the hulls are very different.
It was said years ago that the Marines would get them to replace their Piranhas.
But the problem is that for some fucking reason they only buy US stuff, when the rest, including the Navy itself prefers homemade or European.
They're probably waiting to see what the final version the US would order will be. Large parts of the US derivative will be made in Brazil (and Italy) and it's a very big order. Brazil will probably just spec their version in line with the US version for commonality. Likewise, Mexico will probably wait for Brazil to start production, though I suspect that Mexico will probably manufacturing them locally but using many foreign parts since Mexico is very big on manufacturing, especially automotive manufacturing. From what I can guess Mexico would probably get over 300 vehicles if 2/3rds of their HWK11 and AMX VCI fleet are being replaced with wheeled vehicles. This is the American spec version.
Thanks for buying our products!
Blindado de macaco, uma delicia
I doubt this would have worked if they doont make the last axle steer.
Anon 8x8 like that have been working fine for over a century
Um monte de mato na imagem, nenhuma enxada a vista!
They are OK for troop transport. Very quiet operation too.
Theres just two problems in my view: is too narrow and if you put a 30mm cannon on it, it becomes top heavy and prone to roll over if you try to do a turn on a high speed.
Since theres one set of wheels missing to distribute the weight, you have to be carefull when turning.
why does mexico even have a military lmao
Mexico is a neutral country on paper (similar to Switzerland). Of course to maintain that neutrality you need an army. Though unlike the swiss, mexico is disfunctional, and thus, doesn’t gain much benefit from neutrality. They were an important country for negotiations between the usa and ussr during the cold war
Through being friendly with Russia Mexico was able to acquire several leaking BTRs that had to be refitted with German engines and guns to work right and and a fleet of Mi17 and Mi26 helicopters that Russia refused to provide parts for even though they were already paid for! The Russians forced Mexico to have to develop their own domestic industry to manufacture parts for Russian helos! Russia also never paid for the enriched uranium Mexico promised to give up. Such great friends.
Russia could not make the agreed upon payments to Mexico in either US dollars or Mexican pesos an alternative deal was brokered where Russia would settle the debt with a direct trade of vehicles and food products. Mexico was repaid with several dozen military helicopters, armored vehicles and multiple cargo vessels loaded with vodka and seafood. Much of the seafood spoiled in transit and the Mexican government refused to accept it. Russia agreed to pay the remainder of the balance with two Mi26 heavy lift helicopters. Russia agreed it would take back the spoiled seafood and dispose of it properly. Instead the food was dumped by Russian sailors off the coast of Cozumel where it damaged the local eco system. The odor of the several hundred tonnes of rotten fish could be detected on shore 5 kilometers away. Russia has since failed to supply vital parts for maintenance and repairs. Most of the Mexican fleet of Russian helicopters now sits unused. In active service, many have been replaced with American and European helicopters. In the long term, Mexico plans to replace all it's Russian helicopters with Mexican built helicopters. Russia has claimed that the maintenance contracts with Mexico are not valid as they were made by a previous administration.
Some of them got sent to Ukraine but some private Mexican companies started making parts for them so they're likely going to stay in service.
>Instead the food was dumped by Russian sailors off the coast of Cozumel where it damaged the local eco system. The odor of the several hundred tonnes of rotten fish could be detected on shore 5 kilometers away.
Oh, Russia. I would never expect any different of you.
It will be nice to see the Mexican military using it to fight the cartels, in Brazil they are mostly used for painting sidewalks and cutting grass.
