Since when has it been legal for an American citizen to volunteer themselves into foreign wars/conflicts?
>I dont want to be living next to some shell shocked Merc who was able to move here from the money he took for murdering people in other parts of the world

it is in russia, because that's just the sort of superpower they are.

Russians are incapable of anything but projection.
And since they are using the equivalent of SWAT, National Guard and riot cops as frontline units, they are quick to suggest others are doing the same.

Unless you're fighting against America it's not illegal and never has been to my knowledge. You may lose your citizenship, however, if you are comissioned as an officer into a foreign military but I don't think it's a guarantee.

Didn't use to be. Americans sold their services to help smaller nations build up their militaries before WW2.

Since 1776. Americans love war, and they love killing, and they love the implements of killing. The first question any soldier gets asked is 'how many people did you kill.' And don't worry, pidorashka - you won't ever live next to an American.

Did any of the people who volunteered in the Spanish civil war get in trouble?

I don't believe so but that was a very different time.

These days, I'd be v& if I joined up (at least when/if I made it home again) but I believe it's more or less legal for ameriburgers.

So long as you're not joining an enemy of USA, I believe it's nearly always legal.
Russia isn't even technically an enemy of USA right now but I'm sure they'd find a way to lock you up for joining them, maybe under sanctions laws.

If your org can be labelled as a terrorist organisation, then things get illegal real fricking fast.
That's how everyone that joined the Taliban/Daesh were v&

Oh and joining an organised force means that you're not an unlawful combatant, that's one of the major differences.

None of them were prosecuted, but they were shunned by society at large, harassed by J. Edgar Hoover's FBI, and were refused reenlistment during WW2 as "Suspected Communist Security Risks".

Believe me or not but I was in Ukraine fighting around Kharkiv for a few months. Came home because some shit I put on hold back here wasn't being taken care of like it should have and I didn't want to return and be homeless. Anyways, I got questioned when I flew into Atlanta and went through customs, they already had me flagged before I even left Poland. The biggest question I got is if I saw Taliban or ISIS there, beyond that they didn't give much of a shit. Hell, I'm still in the IRR and never got in trouble.

You are if that belligerent is foreign to you.

You seem to be conflating merc and pmc.
