It's some kind of eczema. I occasionally used to get tiny blisters on my finger and toes that would pop and leave behind dents in the skin underneath and the blister cap would dry up and look like that.

Aria tests them out of an 8 inch barrel, so technically the 10 inch bfr probably squeezes a little more than 1475 fps out of them. Gotta love how 500 magnum makes 9mm rounds look cute…

I fell for the Fiveseven meme when FN had them on rebate last year. I haven’t tried the black dragon dildo ammo yet, but Garand gay and Buffman’s videos have kinda turned me off from carrying it as a defensive firearm. The most viable defensive ammo you can buy off the shelf are the Speer Gold Dots that were intentionally nerfed so they wouldn’t penetrate level II iirc.

Unironically why does soft armor pen affect your decision to carry it? I am a 5.7gay and think it's kind of a meme in a handgun but that's a really dumb reason not to carry it.

To me, the entire point of 5.7 is it performs fairly comparably to 9mm while being lighter, lower-recoiling, and higher capacity. The armor pen thing with pissing hot rounds out of a longer barrel is cool but it's not really a factor in why I like the round (and like I said, I think it's mostly a meme in handguns but it's a mean motherfricker out of a 10.5" barrel).
      >Garandgay
You should watch that video again. 5.7 is known for punching a .22cal hole in soft tissue, yawwing hard, and not exiting the body, and that's exactly what it did in his """tests""". That's just not very spectacular when the video format is "3 morons canoe a ballistics dummy with a Mk18 then basedface". I'll also point out that they got pretty much the same outcome from a 124gr 9mm Gold Dot, and those are pretty widely accepted as the Gold Standard for defensive 9mm carry rounds.

9mm homosexuals are afraid that widespread adoption of 5.7 will make their firearm "collection" (consisting entirely of 9mm striker fired handguns) more worthless than it already is. I recently picked up a PSA rock and after taking it to the range once, two members of my family decided that they would prefer to use it in a home defense pistol over 9mm, largely due to the reduced recoil, increased magazine capacity, and easier to manipulate slide. It isn't perfect for carry just yet, but 5.7 is almost at the point where it is a complete refutation of 9mm.

Isn't the entire premise of 9mm that stopping power is a meme and shot placement is all you need? It's flat shooting with sufficient penetration and low recoil, so it's an objectively better hd option than 9mm according to the standards of 9mm users. Price is coming down rapidly as well, and additional defense options will follow. I'm comfortable with it being used in a HD setting.

              Anonymous

Its personal preference. If all I had for HD was a 5.7 Id be happy. I got an FN 5.7 back not long after they came out. The only good ammo was the restricted stuff that I didnt want to deal with in case of an SD shooting. There are really good rounds out now. The problem was my pistol was it would shoot a huge fireball with a report I wouldn't want to experience in an enclosed space. Great CCW gun though. With 9mm I can have subsonic, TUI, and +p all in different mags. I shot an old boiler with 5.56, 9mm FMJ, and 9mm TUI. The TUI looked like rifle holes The FMJ just dented it. I pay a little over a buck a round for TUI, and it groups well out to 25 yds, and runs in both my pistols.

                >There are really good rounds out now.

            Anonymous

Honestly I think 5.7 is dumb and trash but HD is practically the only thing I could see it being a reasonable(but very niche) choice for. Lower mass higher velocity rounds tend to penetrate through housing materials less than higher mass lower velocity rounds of similar energy. If you've got kids or maybe live in an apartment complex or for other reasons are wanting to minimize over penetration as much as you can AND had to use a handgun for that purpose(ex moron wrangling aforementioned kids) then I could sorta see it. Personally I'd still stick with 9mm but I see the logic at least.

              Anonymous

Thats a good point. The flash and concussion are no bueno for me though. Same with an AR, mines canned and I still wouldn't use it. I feel more than comfortable with just my single stack 9mm CCW.

I wasn’t specifically talking about armor, but more that the 5.7 SGD don’t penetrate in gel deeply enough because they were underpowered in order to not fall under “armor-penetrating pistol ammunition.”

I keep hearing the take from boomers that 10mm in any form is going to over penetrate whatever you're shooting and keep going. Hardcast sure, but I assume hollow points for the most part are going to stop, right?

Depends on what you're shooting. Over-pen is a meme anyways. In terms of pistol calibers anything that goes through& through is gonna be stopped by the second or third later of new& improved high-tech fleece bullet stop anyways.

no civilian has ever killed anyone via overpenetration.

soft point and hollow point are going to slow down faster, yes. FMJ flat nose>FMJ round nose>angry screwdrivers>soft point>hollow point. But you have to be careful when getting 10mm or 357 SIG hollowpoints, as they're often just .40 and 9mm hollowpoints that were chucked into the faster round. This is bad, as they'll expand faster/more than designed. If you don't believe me, look at SIG's offerings for their 357 SIG and 9mm hollowpoints. It's clearly not the same bullet.

This is also true for 460 Rowland. You can watch gel tests on Youtube from Mrgunsngear and other channels where the hollowpoints just disintegrate within a couple of inches because they were designed as 45 ACP projectiles.

overpenetration should be the expectation for all firearm calibers and should be used accordingly.

i have these goofy 10mm gimmick rounds that will probobly never get any use because they are so expensive and i dont even carry my 10mm pistol anymore, just sits in a box because of cycling issues.

        Anonymous

What doesn't cycle them? My g29 would shoot anything 10mm, and also all the .40 I gave it so long as it was fed from the mag.

        Anonymous

Those civil defense rounds actually aren't that bad. They are ultra light and moving fast. I like to alternate them, especially like you see there with some solid rounds that won't lose mass or expand

      Anonymous

10mms greatest problem is and has always been the relative lack of properly designed projectiles for it, they're practically all designed for .40 S&W velocities, general performance characteristics of full power 10mm loads look like:
      >135gr
Impressive expansion, very impressive velocity, significant fragmentation, massive under penetration
      >155gr
Impressive expansion/velocity, may have mild fragmentation, mild to moderate under penetration
      >165gr
Impressive expansion, decent velocity, barely adequate penetration
      >180gr
Impressive expansion, typical handgun velocities, penetration anywhere from adequate to excessive

Really limits the appeal of the cartridge outside of napkin math arguments and dick waving on the internet. There are some pretty neat copper monos on the lighter end of the spectrum tho IIRC. I'd think a tougher designed 150-155gr cup and core style projectile would be a real hit in the caliber

ruger and smith and wesson are both guilty of lobbying to change the law rather than adapt their business and with how aggressively the gun industry has pivoted towards lifestyle marketing should tell you that their primary market is people who fall for lifestyle marketing, and so they've created this elaborate canon of nonsense to justify being consumers of a premium brand.

they're still selling 5 shot j frames for $800 to gen x'ers desperate to larp as baby boomers. im not buying them, you're not buying them, and taurus is selling 'em for like $300 if either of us wanted one. but since they're making bookoo bucks it's not going to stop until they die off and it'll probably tank the company in 20 years when nobody is interested in overpriced legacy firearms, just like what happened to every company that made $900 single action army reproductions.

Heard the only reason they brought back the 32 h&r was because Federal had to utilize the bullets from their failed 30SC

.327 federal is a 45k psi round too powerful for aluminum frames, so they still make guns in .32 h&r. also because it's the omega boomer caliber, too obscure to buy in a store, to expensive to shoot regularly, and obscure enough to gatekeep. objectively its fine and i love the idea of a medium frame revolver with like 10 rounds of 32 crammed in there but it only exists in the market as part of that elaborate canon to sell practically antique 38 special snubnoses for premium pricing
