    >What are the most efficent skills you learned while on duty?
Well not exactly skills per say, but some bits of wisdom I've picked up over the years in EMS:

    >Tactical pants are good for hoarding snacks in the pockets. The fricking EMS rooms at hospitals are never stocked.

    >Given the choice of Waffle House locations in your city, always pick the most hood rat one. Inevitably they always have the best coffee.

    >If you blouse your boots your can protect yourself from infectious diseases often transmitted sexually by nurses and other women.

EMT-B for a medium-sized city's Fire Dept. Being decent at talking to people sometimes is all the medicine you have to do. Lots of pt's make things up for attention, and others just need comfort that they're boo-boos are not going to be fatal. I love this job more than anything else I've done.

      How was the schooling?

6 Months total, 2 in EMT-B, 4 in the fire academy. EMT-B school is interesting and not very difficult, fire academy is very physically demanding, but worth it. The only good money out there is with the fire department, especially those who do EMS in addition to suppression. My department starts around 84K/ yr.

I went to a tech (read community) college for my EMT course. Took about a month over a semester to finish EMT, with the remainder of the second semester, and the summer semester being an AEMT program. It's not hard at all. I'm not a particularly smart person, but I felt like the smartest moron among a group of morons. I literally never studied, but got straight A's, mean while there were people that couldn't figure out how to screw on an oxygen tank regulator.

EMS attracts a lot of dumbass semi-rural kids who usually get into the business due to a family member.

so what does the armor do?

      Anonymous

Supposed to help spread out the impact of a blaster bolt so the wearer survives. Allegedly those troopers at the beginning of A New Hope all survived and were just knocked out.

      Anonymous

Shrapnel resistance. Blaster bolts are explosive and tend to kick up debris. During the boarding scene in IV we see Rebels being taken down by near misses but only direct hits took down stormtroopers.

      Anonymous

It was supposed to improve upon the clone armour which was "good" because s o m e t i m e s it could take a hit and the wearer would be wounded, but able to continue fighting
      >more often than that tho he would just fricking die
      >which is moronic because it just kills off experienced personel quicker
      >but don't question it because republic good!!11!
That was "okay" because the republic was the heckin good guys and had le rights so... it used armies of clones which it treated as a disposable subhuman warrior class

The stormtrooper armour was supposed to protect from shrapnel and make sure the wearer gets knocked out instead of dying when he takes a blaster hit because the Imperial Army was staffed mostly with actual people and since the empire is le bad and heckin evil... it was not treating them as expendable
      >as a result stormtroopers survived direct hits more often than not
      >but empire bad because uhhhhhhhhhh le heckin aliens with massive crime rates were in jail okay!!1!1!

epinephrine is your coffee doesn't actually do anything.

emergency medicine isnt worth it as a career. pay is shit, stress extreme, and you will wre k your body. But its OK to do when you're young.....even if its only to open your naive eyes to how inept, manipulative, and scummy people can be. You will meet such buttholes in both patients and coworkers.

Depends on region first, then agency. When I left the PD in one of the nations wealthiest counties and went to the feds, I was making 135k after 9 years while my friend was making that back home but was deputy chief. And no, I’m not a fedgay anymore. Where I worked you’d make around $75k as a senior PO w/o promotion if you worked nights. Some of those Long Island PD’s are very well pod.

I'm a male nurse (about to be a nurse practitioner) and EMTs and Paramedics are gigantic homosexuals. I love out alpha-ing wannabe cops in the ER and generally just wiener blocking.

Also EMTs make like literally 14 dollars an hour in big cities. Literal burger flipper subhumans.

          >stealing
You might call my wages stealing, but it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the ride the hospital’s taking you on as a whole. Most of that money goes straight to management.
          >Sexual abuse
I hear about this every once in a while and I have to wonder just what kind of sicko you have to be not to get any willingly as a male nurse. Other nurses/CNA’s practically throw themselves at you (though I don’t condone shitting where you eat). And if you don’t like crazy, there are plenty of women outside of work who are all over a guy who makes six figures. If you’re dirty enough to hook up with coworkers, (which, again, don’t recommend), you’ll never have to go without a day in your life.

I wanna get into medicine, should I join a military like FFL to get training there or what?
I'm really only interested in leaving my third world country and help some people along the way if I can and joining a foreign military seems like the easiest way to do that. No way in hell am I staying in my shithole and working 12 hour shifts as a nurse to earn enough money to maybe not starve until my next paycheck.

      Anonymous

It would be a good stepping stone. I can only speak for the burger army but if you take it seriously you can get a good foundation. We actually get an EMT-B cert while the navy does not

      Anonymous

That would be very country specific. The American Army can get you an EMT certification if you become a medic and will pay for your schooling if you want to become a nurse/doctor. In your country they probably won’t pay for schooling and medics might get training that’s essentially “vodoo magic doesn’t work, here’s some bandages, have fun.”

I would recommend seeing if there’s some sort of pre-med program in your country and going from there.

Been a combat medic in the Army for 8 years, it's mostly doing "Mommy Medicine" and babysitting.
    >Most efficient skills?
Honestly just master the basic treatments. Simple management of the HABCs will handle 99% of emergencies.
    >Do people really shit themselves when injured?
Sometimes, usually in car wrecks because of a spinal injury. Or they do it because they think they'll get more insurance money.

Nursing officer. I got advanced cardiovascular life support, rural trauma life support, pre-hospital life support, haz-mat, and mass-casualty training all payed for by the air force. While all good skills, I haven't used them outside of being in trauma hospitals or when I was deployed.
    >Is it true that people shit themselves while injured?
I find more people piss and vomit on themselves. People shit themselves when they die or from real bad trauma.

Nice. I’m applying for the CRNA program next year. Any tips?

Also where are you at to make 400k? Or do you travel?

        Anonymous

1099 you can make it easy. You can do contracts and make more. If you do procedures you can net 400k+ easily. Its called locums for providers, not really travel.

Starting salary is at least 200k+ now.

Yeah...be good. Every fricker wants to be a CRNA and post-COVID people are fleeing the beside. My school had 600 apps for 40 slots. You have to have something special about you. Look into the LEAP program or take grad school classes now to prove yourself. If you are black or some other shade other than white you got a better shot too. They love black CRNAs

CCRN is a must. GRE is a must at many schools.

    >How are you all doing?
Bretty gud, got my first EMS job in an all ALS unit in a small college town. Competitive openings, surprised I got it. Can't wait to see either granny shit herself during the IFT or Fratboy Frank OD on mystery boof.

    >What's your line of work like, and what are the most efficient skills you learned while on duty?
Sit in big chair and watch stuff on phone or read. Tone hits, high high low, dagnab, thats us. Dispatch hits us with SHOB. Clock in on scene. PT found in tripod position, coughing, in backyard full of sports equipment and PT's grandchildren. PT had history of COPD. Well no shit you're out of breath, COPD just means you are essentially being choked to death over the course of 20 years. You really didn't think you could be a life long smoker and play with your grandkids, right? Put PT on NC, take a trending set of vitals, and transport. It's a customer service job. 80% of the time you are a medical chauffeur. So really some of the best attributes you can have are in listen and attentiveness to the PT and patience so you treat people consistently amd respectfully. Clinically, as long as you can stomach it, you can learn it.

    >Is it true that people shit themselves while injured?
Matters. You don't need an illness or trauma to shit yourself. Just eat a lot and then get pass out drunk and when someone comes along, activate your defense mechanism, like the squid you are, and "ink" on some poor guy.

I really started civilian EMS because I decided I wanted to be a combat medic after reading a memoir of one. I really love civilian EMS. I love the suck. I was too fat to instantly dive right in and enlist. I also decided I wanted to be a physically performing stud. I want to try for tabs, and schools, anything special. Im 60 pounds down but the last 50 are a real pain. The reality of EMS is that it's a job, where everyone has a "this is what I want to be when I grow up" Everyone had a goal beyond paramedic they are shooting for.

Is it worth it to get a basic EMT cert without planning to enter the field? I kinda just want to have one so I have solid enough medical training just in case I ever need it, as I live pretty rurally and it could easily be 30 minutes before any ambulance could arrive.

Their is a medical first responder course that people take for just having that exact base you said you want. EMT is a lot more involving but it does look good on a resume for other first responder stuff. My dad got nationally registered and he probably won't ever step in the back of an ambulance again unless I bring him along. Getting that first responder or EMT-B is worth it if you get registered and have the time.
