Marik! Liao! Where are you?! We have only one Urbanmech left and 70% shortages in the stock of AC/10 ammunition. How are we supposed to stop the Clans? How many more FedCom and DCMS Mechwarriors must die?
Marik! Liao! Where are you?! We have only one Urbanmech left and 70% shortages in the stock of AC/10 ammunition. How are we supposed to stop the Clans? How many more FedCom and DCMS Mechwarriors must die?
mechwarrior 5 sucks
"You will never be a Battlemech Merc. You have no mechs, you have no PPCs, you have no Double Heat Sinks. You are a russian thug twisted by vodka and snow into a crude mockery of Mechwarrior's perfection. All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back Putin mocks you. The Oligarchs are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “countrymen” laugh at your mobiks operating frames to pretend they are mechs behind closed doors. Mech fans are utterly repulsed by you. Years of Battletech have allowed people to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even teams of mobiks using giant cardboard mock models look uncanny and unnatural to a man. Your lack of myomer is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a vatnik to hire you, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets a whiff of your diseased, infected prison recruits instead of a fusion reactor. You will never be happy. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, soon mighty Russia will have real battlemechs, but deep inside you feel the depression creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight. Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll order a drone operator to drop a grenade over you and plunge into the cold abyss. Putin will find you, actually relieved that Russia no longer has to live with the unbearable shame and annoyance. They’ll bury you with a headstone without any mechwarrior designation, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know an ordinary mob boss is buried there. Your "volunteers" will rot away and go back to the dust, and all that will remain are skeletons and rusted frames which are clearly not mechs."
>he’ll
>it'll
>you'll
Freebirth scum, I could smell you from the first sentence.
You tried/10.
Yet Another Mechlab and such things do a fantastic job of giving the game the extra bit of customization it should have had.
I feel like what sucks the most is just how dumb the AI are. Even with mods they're so stupid. Really drags you out of the game. Wanted to try coop only to find out it requires a direct invite... gay.
What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little surat? I will have you know I graduated top of my sibko with 3 confirmed kills in my trial of position, I have been involved in numerous trials of possession, and I have over 4 trinaries worth of confirmed kills in Operation Revival. I am trained in zellbrigen and I am the best mechwarrior in the entire Jade Falcon touman. You are nothing to me but just another freebirth. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the HPGnet? Think again, trashborn. As we speak I am contacting the clan watch spies across the invasion corridor and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, savashri. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You are fucking dead, eyass. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that is just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in elemental combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the heirs of Kerensky and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your chalcas ass off the face of the Inner Sphere, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy batchall your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you could not, you did not, and now you are paying the price, you dezgra idiot. I will shit ATMs all over you and you will drown in it. You are fucking dead, stravag.

christ what a pic
Someone send this to /tg/ and /m/.
Don't bother with /m/, they no longer talk about Battletech, it's all gay tanukis and retro-shitnimes waifus nowadays, the sad state of mechafandom.
The new Gundam is genuinely more discussable on fucking /u/ than /m/, there's some really dedicated schizoposters currently.
>a small, no fun allowed clique of turbo schizos
or:
>normalfag infestation reaching critical levels
Sad fate for many boards.
I hate the new show just because of the yuri spam posters
toplel, I was expecting this. Very good job, OP.
Also Battlemaster best mech.
mod it bro. It's great with the mods.
>battlemaster
Battlemaster is an overgrown heavy who finds himself seriously in danger in a slug fest against a Thunderbolt. All true mechwarriors know the Bushwacker is the best mech that isn’t unseen/reseen.
The cataphract is a frankenmech the Cappies decided to mass produce.
>shitting on Battlemaster

Already said it’s the Bushwacker. Fantastic trooper mech with some really cool variants.
How is Bushie in MWO? That is, if you play.
NTA.
It has a RAC/5 build that's very good for the weight class because the narrow CT/ST hitboxes let you spread damage very effeciently. As far as mediums go it's somewhat common for that reason.
I think that meme would work better with Liao ca. 3028.
I don't really have one. I like most Mechs and think that almost all of them have a good reason and niche they fill. I mean, even the OG Charger does. Okay, it's niche is graft. But still.
Closest is probably pic relevant. I just find it funny that GM found out that trying to build a Clan Omni without Clantech doesn't work. Also its later variants actually are pretty good in their own right, if expensive.
Will have that when Chang decides to invade Semiconductor Island.
Oh well. Then again, I used to main Awesome, I am used to disappointment from mech done dirty.
You know something? YOU SUCK
Yeah
It did after the launch. Now, with all of the DLCs and mods, it's pretty great.
>great
It's fine. Fun even, with mods. But my buddies and I cannot physically keep ourselves from talking shit about the game in one form or another every time we get on to stomp NPC nerds.
PGI is supposed to be working on another game. Here's hoping they learned the right lessons and keep their goals a little more restrained this time.
I've burned shitload of hours in MW5 and enjoyed it.
Also:
>PGI learning anything
Seriously though, it is supposed to be a classic single player campaign, so it seems they did.
M4WMercs + the Mekpaks is still the way to go after all these years.
>I was 27 the year the Fedcom Civil War broke out
i was 16
i spent my best years in this war
it shaped me into what i am today
I love the jenner memes
Jenner (and Piranha, but that shit is straight up broken) is excellent for mwo trolling.
>a shitpost about my friend liking the Jenner too much has made it to PrepHole
Neat
>The media saw us as young gods; lords of war riding the battlefield on our engines of destruction.
Battletech (the video game) is great if you are into tactics
DLC is probably worth it if you buy em in bulk, individually they are shit
Battletech runs like shit. My computer can run AAA games fine but BT gives it fits for some reason.
I stick with MegaMek.
The way unity and Battletech function is a bit of a shit show. It's constantly pulling data from the hdd even between button presses and turn calculations. So if you're running that game of anything but an nvme hard disk then it's going to run like shit no matter what. With mods the issue is exacerbated massively because the jank ass game will have to parse through potentially a dozen or more GB of extra content between most of it's in game actions. Resulting in hitching and mini-lock ups almost constantly.
You tried it with the performance mods? They recently unfucked a lot of the jank and my computer no longer sounds like Abrams engine start.
JUST MOD YER SHIT UP FAMALAM
what are the essential MW5 mods to make it closer to old-school MW and the TTRPG?
to make it closer to the table top game you'd need a mod that simulated the hours of dice roles for determing hits
>Not elemental mommy
Don't care.
What do you mean by 'closer ' to mw and tabletop?
I dunno what you mean by that but for mods I'd say the essentials are
VonBiomes,
VonHUD (because it allows you to switch to a top-down view to command your lance),
the YAML suite,
TTrulez AI mod,
career mode customization,
Most people like Coyote Missions
Plus whatever visual mods you prefer and your PC can handle, most actually aren't that much more demanding than the base game because they just unfuck the bad optimization and artistic choices PGI made in the base game
I also use a mod that disables artillery because the way it's implemented makes no sense and is annoying af
Jesus Christ woman what the fuck is that posture? You’re going to fuck up your back.

modern women have evolved specially curved spines so they can walk or sit tits up ass out or hip thrust 90% of the time
management knew he was a troll all along. they explicitly hung BLP out to dry so as to appear woke.
>everything is woke!
>management knew he was a troll all along. they explicitly hung BLP out to dry so as to appear woke.
The chud drama was buried and done long before BLP got himself dumped. In fact, I think the tyranny came out and admitted he was just a straight man pretending to be a lesbian for clout before BLP got fired. The number of people BLP has had very public slap fights with was the problem. Critics of his work would get long aggressive rants trying to discredit them no matter how merited their criticisms were. It's not a good look for the holding company that actually owns the brand. Also he was a freelancer, they didn't actually "fire" him, they just declined to continue hiring him.

They're...MOSTLY back together now I think. Shakey foundation but now its no longer a perpetual free-for-all by the whose who list of major players in the former FWL.
When has FWL not been a collection of disorganized microstates?
>Marik is a mess of shattered micronations
Its gone back to normal?
Yes and both Steiner and Fed Suns have effectively been castrated by clans/Dracs-liao
MechWarrior 5 is the final anal evacuation that is the dead corpse that is this franchise. What a pile of garbage.
Base game released like shit.
The DLCs helped a lot. Now its significantly better. You can just use creamapi to acquire the DLCs pro bono and then use workshop mods to turn the game into something fantastic. YAML, coyotes mission pack, the AI fix, various graphical improvements. You can tweak the sandbox campaign to your liking.
The game is incredibly fun now, and the modding scene is thriving. Merctech mod is coming soon.
Pic related, the best mech.
Man, Marauder would be such a cool looking mech if not for that silly wings-like shit in the back.
There's also an overhaul mod that adds tanks and other shit for you to use. Infantry too, but only the battlesuit variants. They're working on basic leg grunts though.
God damn shimmys marauder II is FUGLY! Even pgi did a better job.
>Merctech mod is coming soon.
ahahahh good one
They're rebalancing campaign missions right now, and once that's done and things are mostly stable they'll release the mod to the public.
Functionally things seem to be mostly working, but the early missions are completely impossible under the new rules due to merchtech giving vehicles a large boost. The manticore in the first mission was a brick wall to a lot of testers for a long time
doesnt matter if coop is still busted as shit which last i checked it is and has been for nearly a year now
Coop works in Instant Action. I haven't kept up to see if it works in campaign.
>*laughs in lasers*
we disco ball now
Why don't you do some salvage you fucking RCT pussy
Wagnar would be so blacklisted in the Mercenary Review Board/Mercenary Review and Bonding Commission they'll probably have to invent a new classification just to denote how radioactive they are. They'll pay YOU not to pay THEM.
Wagner already exists in the DCMS in those Assault Groups. There's also Legion of Vega, Ghost Regiments, Chain Gang Mission etc....
They aren't a real mercenary organization anyway, just another arm of the state. In the BT universe they would be wiped out and forgotten about pretty fas5
>thinking Wagner would be noticeable in BT
Kek, wait until you read about McCarrion's Armored Calvary.
I FUCKING LOVE THE CATAPHRACT
Does anyone plays MWO here?
I get drunk and play it once in a while, running double MRM Dervish and a shitty poptart Rifleman build
Grinding so I can get a nice assault mech and go to town
since closed beta. I fucking hate that game and the devs that came up with ghost heat. But it is the only game that lets me jump around in 2CERPPC ECM shadowcat so I guess I'm stuck with crappy netcode and shitty hit detection
>shitty hit detection
I've just started playing about a month ago and I already thought about it few times. It does seem fucky. Glad it's not just me.
things I encountered:
>alphad a shutdown mech straight into rear CT four times in a row and it didn't register any damage
>been shot with dual heavy gauss Thanatos steaight to CT with only losing 1% of armor (registered a hit, but no damage)
>seen lagshielded Fleas and Locusts eat entire volleys from Steiner scout lances and walking out with minimal bright yellow armor
>got headshoted through the back by an enemy who was 500m away on my six
>seen mechs become invulnerable by jittering while standing on uneven terrain making their model and hitbox decouple (this is funny as hell because actual hitbox is usually a mechs height above the mech model and you can only find it by lasing the area and the targeted mech can't move)
>>seen lagshielded Fleas and Locusts eat entire volleys from Steiner scout lances and walking out with minimal bright yellow armor
Seen this one too. Playing lights with high ping is generally extremely fucky.
>>seen mechs become invulnerable by jittering while standing on uneven terrain making their model and hitbox decouple (this is funny as hell because actual hitbox is usually a mechs height above the mech model and you can only find it by lasing the area and the targeted mech can't move)
And accidently did this one myself.
I mean, MWO is not a zero sum game like Tarkov (which has even worse netcode) or something, so it is not that big of a deal, but it is still very annoying. When I was sniping with my dual gauss Thanatos, I've seen the rounds going through the model without doing any damage a bit too often to my taste. This is especially problem with arms and legs. I blame desync.
Lel, you weren't around when SRMs could hit a mech from the front, then pass through and somehow hit rear armor, then hit the front armor again
Shadowscat players are scum and will get the rope
Data's Catafarm (2x UAC10s & 3x LPPCs) is one of the most fun mechs I've ever played with. Literally made to make people seethe. Cataphract is seriously underrated mech.
The Cataphract and Gún are really the best things to come from the Capellan's.

>implying the Jags and Nova Cats could ever overcome the awesome might of the Dragon
And I don't just say that because I'm a weeb... but mostly because the Jags and Nova Cats were kinda retarded and were at each other's throats all the time, even when they weren't inspiring the local Yakuza cells into open rebellion.
The Falcons, Wolves, and Bears might have had a shot, but the Jags were always going to fuck themselves over.
>space texans who hate anyone crossing their borders
This is pretty fucking relevant.
"DAVIONS could be here" he thought "I've never been in this system before. There could be DAVIONS anywhere." the coolant pumping through his pilot vest felt good against his bare chest. "I HATE DAVIONS" he thought. Sweet Dreams are Made of These reverberated within the cockpit of his Marshal making it pulsate even as the 75 Bull Canopian Wine circulated through his powerful thick veins and washed away his (merited) fear of spheroids after dark. "With a MECH you can go anywhere you want" he said to himself, out loud.
>When asked what it felt like to take human life, Hanse Davion responded "I wouldn't know, I've only ever killed Cappellans.
Reseen designs suck fucking ass. Fuck those cunts at Harmony Gold.
Just stopping by to post the best mech.
Get out of here Stalker
Saving up to get a 7D so I can melt some fools
7D is phenomenal. Misery with AC-20 x2 heavy peeps is a good time too.
>taking Stalker to brawl
But why. It's too slow, not to mention the abhorrent torso twist rates. Sdalger is for melting gays from far away.
>brawl
Shnoz allows excellent damage spread with minimum twist. Nose stays close to pointing at target while not having to loose sight of the target.
But really what you are doing is finding a corner or a ramp to damage dump the UAC-20 and Heavy Peep alphas as fast as they can cycle and dip back into cover. 70pts of near pinpoint damage. Oh, and its asymetric so you get a shield side. Misery rocks at brawl.
Man, UAC20 or AC20 makes my peepee feel very good, but I can put one on a Centurion (with 3x SRMs) and do pretty good alpha too, WHILE being 90 speedy boi. I would say LPL Fatlas is even better brawler. But yeah, those hitboxes with Stalker do look great.
Stalker can twist all of its arm mounted weaponry into back arc.
tabletop quirk.
They actually straight up removed the No Torso Twist quirk a while ago.
Too slow.
Too squish.
Neither in lore or any game is the Stalker squishy. In MWO it is easily among the hardest mechs to put down. In lore, two of them go dowm swinging taking out the better part of a clan galaxy with them.
If it isn't a Stalker, its a toy. A big metal doll. Simple as.
It goes down pretty fast tbqh.

Obviously, cl*nners don't need to apply.

Nobody who likes video games goes to /v/ anymore
The worst part about /v/ is how utterly retarded that board has become. It was never that good in the first place, but nowadays it's literally just the most braindead shitposting, discount 4chanmorony, and twitter trash. Considering /v/ is like second most popular board, this only further proves that normalfags do ruin everything they infest.

They made it a lot taller and less curvy than the original, for some reason.
Because fps gameplay. Low slung assaults like King Crab feel bad when you get shot in your CT before your hand weapons clear the hill you are walking over.
Everything I know about Battletech comes from the few threads I see on here but so far this is the most attractive mech I've seen from that universe
I love seeing orange on a robot and my God those CALVES
That’s the Stone Rhino, a clan assault mech. It’s insanely lethal and at 100 tons the heaviest a mech can be in the setting and still be practical. It has a pair of Gauss Rifles that can remove heads from mechs at long range, and two clan large pulse lasers, which are ton for ton the most efficiently lethal weapons in the setting, combining good damage, superb accuracy and manageable heat generation together in one package, there’s also a small pulse laser for knife fighting ranges and telling infantry to fuck off and die. It has 18 tons of armor, and jump jets too. Only downside is that for a clan assault mech, on the slow side - which means it matches standard IS speeds. It can also get a bit toasty if you jump and fire both large pulse lasers plus your rifles, but simply either picking to fire the large pulse lasers only when standing still or going with a 2-1-2 firing pattern with them means it can manage the heat load well since it’s a clan mech with double heat sinks. Extremely dangerous, but much less so once the Gauss Rifle ammo runs dry.
>rock unicorn
This thing is going to be sniper bait or get swarmed by lights.

ERAs mess with reactive capabilities of the ceramics in composite armor.
There are: reactive (Blazer) armor is invented by the snakes in 3063. It cuts physical damage in half, but runs the risk of catastrophic failure. There's also Ballistic-Reinforced armor from the Dark Ages, if you care about that time period.
>ERA
>in a laser fight
Most weapons would make ERA a liability in Battletech, as most damage is directed energy or heavy mass which completely ignores the mitigation from reactive armor and just would add tonnage which is the greatest sin in Battletech.
Isn't ERA, in a way, ablative armor? So it might actually work against lasers and PPC's. Pulse lasers, though, not so much
>ablative
Only for a short period/amount of damage that can be better mitigated by normal BT armor, then again normal BT armor can be knocked off by hitting it with a wooden staff.
the only semi plausible way I can think of making battletechs magical ablative armor real is making a composite armor system consisting of powerful electric reactive armor, conventional armor, and actual real life heat ablatives nasa uses on their reentry vehicles all sandwiched together in that order with several repeating layers.
The battle of Luthien and defending it in MW2 Mercs was the battletech’s peak kino

i really dont get why noone builds a mod and just redoes mw2 single player campigns there, or is it that hard?
computer noob question.
It definitely had the best intro cutscene. For gameplay, though, it's really hard to top the "Overlord" mission from MW4:M. Your lance plus 2-3 lances of allied NPCs has to fight through a full battalion or more of enemy mechs. You get to watch an Overlord losing thrust in mid-air and plummeting into the ground. Enemies just keep coming, and they're mostly Steiner Scout Lances. It's completely nuts.
I mained a commando 7x in Battletech in honor of mercs

MWOfags, hows my boy Uziel? Does it stack up at least a little?
No, unfortunately. Or at least it didn't when I was still playing; I know they did a fuckheug requirkening at some point since then so it might be better than it was, but the chassis itself has some pretty rough inherent drawbacks.
>weapon mounts are as far apart as they could possibly be so convergence is bad
>mixed hardpoints on a medium are a bitch to optimize in MWO
>XLs are quite risky because if you can see the Uziel then you can isolate its side torsos from any angle
>also each ST is easily as large as the CT so they catch fire like nothing else
>tiny arms means you can't shield
When it launched it cratered harder than a Long Tom, which is a shame because I like the look of it. Will need a current player to chime in to see if they've given it any love.
Well fug, I love Uzi for it's weird looks.
Its pretty mean with pop-tart snubs. Seen a few do Shadowcat shit with ERPPC and ERLL as well, but generally, yeah.
Since the reworks Uziel's been pretty good, some variants have gotten really strong quirks but the issue is Uziels body itself, the arm mounts are really risky and like anon said convergence kinda sucks. So the versions with strong ass perks like 3P and 2S are really still sort of risky builds. That said overall Uziels are still fairly solid.
One of my most played machines is the UZI-6P, because she's got upper mounted torso energy slots. Which means you can use her as a sniper with ease and usually put up pretty well. I run a simple 3 medium laser, 1 heavy ppc on the 6P and just run around legging lights, or plinking bigger guys from the rear line and I usually do ok. I'm pretty shit at the game in general but i've maintained about a 1.23 win ratio with it after nearly 20 hours of gametime
Mind posting the build, uziel-anon?
Thanks, anon.

This is more compelling than 99% of things in general I've ever seen
This post is great but doesn't scan to the actual poem as well as I'd like. Someone should remake it, something like;
> Once upon a midnight dreary, as we patrolled, weak and weary
> Chasing sensor ghosts, never finding what we'd been looking for
> Suddenly - a raider spotted! -- an annoyance to be swatted
> Something to be chased, though chasing him would be a chore.
> 'A raider,' my comrade muttered, 'sneaking and who knows what for -
> Does he know what we have in store?'
>
> 'Stand your ground, and call his sighting - he can't hide once he is fighting,'
> The first orders came through swiftly to our crew of four-
> 'When we see him, focus fire! He'll not defeat a lance this dire -
> His light tonnage will never bring sufficient fire to bore!
> A mech that light could not bring enough fire to bore.'
> Quoth the Raven - Arrow IV

Absolutely seething at the OFFICAL WINNERS OF THE SETTING LOL.
For now. 3151 puts them in a pretty shit position. They're the kings of a big old pile of rubble and their touman is beyond fucked after fighting two major wars back to back with the Republic and Jade Falcon. They're barely able to defend the borders of the Wolf Empire against a now rebounding FWL and Lyrans.
>They're the kings of a big old pile of rubble and their touman is beyond fucked after fighting two major wars back to back with the Republic and Jade Falcon.
We talking about the Wolves.
They've rebuilt their touman from the ground up twice already. They've literally come back from the status the JF are in right now (reduced to a special force of the Wolves) to rise to the top again.
Wolf Empire is fucked but that was the price to pay to win.

begone to reddit chud. your kind is poisoning everything.
Your pessimism and willingness to abandon everything because of one chud is more toxic than the chud itself. A lot more of us don't like it than do, and most people into battletech do not respect any single company as the sole arbiter of lore.
BLP got himself fired for being a drama queen and egotistical ass. His last two books for Battletech were awful in quality.
I keep seeing people say this and I don't get it. I quite enjoyed Hour of the Wolf. People try to claim Alaric and Clan Wolf are Mary Sues, but really they're just ambitious and they earned what they wanted (Terra), and now have to deal with the consequences of how much that weakened their Clan. Sooner or later some event is going to expose how wounded they are and put the Wolves in a survival fight. Anyhow, I suspect the Wolf/BLP haters are just trannies and/or filthy Capellans.
>he enjoyed hour of the wolf
It wasn’t the quality it needed to be and his Jade Falcon book messed up basic shit and made no sense. His first book was his best. Everything after that he wrote was not as good.
Clan Wolf are huge Mary Sues dude, think of all that Wolf in Exile and Wolf's Dragoons shit
that just feels like bad resource management
they wanted an inter-clan conflict so they have the wolf/falcon refusal
wolf in exile is created out of it, probably to give a clan tech boost to the eventual inner sphere counterattack
and then... nope, thats it they're not doing anything else
same goes for the dragoons
they introduce this 5 regiment strong merc force and then they never do anything
at minimum their involvement in the clan invasion should have been more prominent, which would prompt a strong reaction from the clans, and this ought to have resulted in significant losses for them
instead of spending the 3050s and 60s twiddling their thumbs
>be wardens
>crusaders push the invasion issue
>stall them with Dragoon compromise
>invasion still happens
>tip off Focht to batchall system and Terra and plant the seed for Tukayyid
>get called out for undermining the clans
>burn your crusader malcontents against the biggest crusaders, the Jade Falcons in the refusal war
>withdraw your wardens to Arc Royal
>hold the line against Falcon fuckery for decades in true keeping with your warden values
The Wolves in Exile and their Dragoon cousins were a cohesively written pseudo good guy faction plot. I'll give you that the resurrection of the crusader Wolves under Vlad Ward was cheesy and they should have only kept the Exiled Wolves after the Refusal War.
if the Falcons were to have absorbed the crusader Wolves then their manpower wouldn't be depleted and they'd be capable of fulfilling their war desires
If it had been a Trial of Absorption, yes. But the Refusal War left very few Wolves alive in the Clan Homeworlds. They may have been crusader Wolves, but they still hated the Falcons and most fought to the death.
This. Giving any Wolf blood, even Crusaders, to the JF would have meant JF wouldnt have all been jobbers with the exception of Aiden.
This was obviously unacceptable.
Fuck off Big Red you fucking worthless Leaf.

>everyone hates Jihad
I like the WoB, why does everyone else hate the Jihad?
Because everyone's favorite characters they grew up reading about died in a suicide car bombing. Or in the case of the blackthorns they died accidentally because the writers made the WoB virus bomb a planet that just so happened to be their last posting without any sort of update to them leaving before hand, so they just let them all stay dead.
I have no logical reason for hating the Jihad I just find it lame and hammy whenever I read about it
Too many grand cataclysmic events in the setting maybe
It was poorly written, largely as a consequence of the death of FASA and the WizKids clickytech era. We went directly from 3067 to 3130 in a timeskip that handwaved lots of stuff and crammed far too many events into far too short a time period. When clickytech failed and CGL took over, they had to deal with making the Jihad make sense without retconning all of the stuff mentioned in the clickytech era.
The Jihad needed to be spread out over a longer period, with more political and military maneuvering, and less Idiot Balls For Everyone. WoB got a massive army out of practically nowhere (at least their navy was somewhat legit), and somehow nobody figured out that they were behind all of the strife being caused for several years, despite them, I dunno, orbital bombarding Tharkad and New Avalon under their true colors at the very beginning of the Jihad. And the Successor States kept assuming that each other were behind the mysterious attacks and betrayals, and not the mustache-twirling villain?
Start the Jihad slowly and quietly, spread the whole thing out until 3090ish, let it build up naturally, and you've got a much more believable story.
Weaklings both of you. Psychopathic war criminal clan Jade Falcon GF or bust!

Battletech feels like a franchise that has never managed to live up to its potential
Because it hasn't, and never will. It was once a peer competitor with 40K, has a storyline rivalling Dune and Star Wars in scope and content, a hundred novels, is so iconic that people recognise a Timber Wolf despite never having heard its name or the phrase "Battletech", and is practically the founding father of original American mecha design.
But the IP has been criminally mismanaged to the ground, and it doesn't look like it'll get any better ever. So much for that.
>AC10
That's a game term, in the actual universe "AC10" is pretty much the equivalent of NATO 105mm to 120mm.
>nooooo it's a gun that can do 10pts of damage!!!
Then what is the point of Ultra Autocannons? If your ACWhatever achieves it damage by firing multiple shells rapidly (800-1000RPM) why not use those instead of the more expensive and jam prone UAC's?
>AC damage per ton
Autocannons really need a ammo per ton boost, when a AC10 only gets 15 rounds per ton and has to face the absolute devastation of ammo explosions there's a reason why everyone goes laserboat. Lasers and other energy builds should be situational, not as a general solution for the game. Autocannon builds should be more viable, along with mixed armament builds, enough with this "boating" bullshit.
energy is good to reduce logistics
got enough to worry about with every mech in a unit being different
autocannons should have been burst fire, damage over time and lasers should have been instant damage in MWO, you can't change my mind.
>the easiest to aim weapon should have been PPFLD
u r dum
I actually quite like MWO's (and MW5) approach to balancing laser (and pulse laser) damage. Ghost heat can die in a fire though.
I wonder how players would react if MechWarrior as a series implemented more dynamic piloting as depicted in lore, things like crouching/going prone to take cover, slipping on rough terrain, bracing for weapon impacts, active melee combat, etc. as opposed to the literal tank with legs gameplay that it has been historically.
War Thunder style armor penetration and subsystem damage could be interesting too. One of the supposed big advantages mechs have over conventional vehicles is that their critical components are spaced out within their structure and unlikely to all be destroyed at once. Imagine having to strip pixel perfect ablative armor all over a mech (not just per broad hit component), and then penetrating shots damaging components being physically implemented with a bunch of dead space structure inside that could contribute to structural failure (whole limb/torso section comes off) but the critical components and subsystems function unless directly hit.
Without double heat sinks, auto cannons have more of a role. When having more that 12 heat sinks on a mech is a rarity, being able to sling 10 damage downrange for only 3 heat is worth the ammo explosions. Lostech kinda screws around with game balance.
Lostech is fine if there is an extra strategic layer to it, e.g. in campaign play where you will find 1 IS-era weapon, or scrounge together enough supplies to maintain 1 mech with double heatsinks.
Double heat sinks turn some mechs into absolute monsters. DHS on a Marauder allows for you to drop two sinks, add another two tons of armor, and still be almost heat neutral. DHS on a Warhammer creates a nasty mech if you ditch a sink or two for armor, while on an Awesome allows you to go down to say, 16 DHS and throw the rest into medium lasers for when someone decides they want to get under three PPC’s minimum range, at which point they eat an absolute fuckton of pew-pew.
Just did some theory work on that awesome. 16 DHS allows for a spare Large Laser plus 7 medium lasers, creating an absolute disco death mode up close, or a pair of large lasers and medium lasers for close in backup. Alternatively you can just make the Awesome a 4/6 mech, which is kind of fucking terrifying - imagine a 4/6 mech with 15 tons of armor and a trio of standard PPC’s that doesn’t need to ever stop firing them. Alternatively you can add a fourth PPC, 18 double heat sinks and a trio of medium lasers and keep it a 3/5, just one that has a decent punch up close and a 4/3/4 ppc firing pattern.
Not much reason to make an awesome 4/6, it's the apex turret mech, anything that wants to shoot it has to expose itself to fire or get around its rear, improving its speed won't help much besides the ability to backpedal faster.
Obviously, not talking the TT, but in MWO, easily the best Awesome (and the only good one, regrettably) is Pretty Baby that can go 90kmph.
having not too far from average movement speed is overemphasized in pub MWO because of rotato potato compared to any other depiction of BT/MW
I guess my point was that the PB is so good also because of its speed, which allows it to hunt lights and mediums and trade really effectively with anything heavier. There is this sweet spot with playing it aggressively that can give you some good results.
>rotato potato
I hate it. Why do people keep doing it, especially since there is absolutely no rational reason to do it. Like there are retards who rotate/nascar even though they are getting btfo'd from the enemy already.
>absolutely no rational reason
There is unfortunately plenty of rational reasons to do it. Aggressive players leading the rotation get to flank and tend to get big damage/kills/score/SR off the enemy. Since the enemy team is doing the same, the mechs that get left behind are easy targets for the flankers, and the flankers don't suffer the consequences of being left behind and outnumbered and eaten. They are individually highly incentivized to play this way, even if through the course of the game, their team gets eaten up faster and they lose. The aggressive players will often get enough score that even when they lose, they aren't suffering major SR penalties because their aggression is recorded as high performance relative to their team anyways.
I'm not sure what the solution is. I'm inclined to blame objective design combined with a relatively low skill and low knowledge player base (lots of mechdads out there who simply don't give a shit), which means low organization and little ability to convince the team when you want to coordinate. Lots of maps have good holding points outside of the rotato center feature, but teams tend not to use them. Objective modes that intentionally spread the team to force more smaller scale skirmishes could help. Conquest is 100% the best mode because of this, no matter how much the fatties complain about having to walk.
>That's a game term, in the actual universe "AC10" is pretty much the equivalent of NATO 105mm to 120mm.
Modern guns would be designated as 'rifles' in Battletech balance calculations. Also going by bore size is really iffy; the Marauder's AC/5 is a three-round-burst of 120mm.
yeah AC/5/10/20 are in universe generic terms for weapons that do a specific amount of damage "per turn". Some AC10's will be a rotary 30mm cannon, a 120mm low velocity hesh thrower, a high velocity 90mm gun, etc. There is no single caliber taken into account for AC class weapons, only the damage they do per turn. Lets lore writers have more fun with fluff that way and keeps gameplay simplified.
>regular autocannons being burst/rapid fire
Then what is the fucking point of Ultra and Rotery Autocannons then? If what you say about projectile size and the damage being irrelevant then why isn't there a "universal" AC ammo?
>why can you buy AC ammo everywhere
Star League forced standardization, black boxed assembly plants, and centuries of stockpiling.
>Then what is the fucking point of Ultra and Rotery Autocannons then
They fire enough to deal the given increment of damage by default but ultras can fire at up to double that pace at risk of jamming and rotaries can fire even faster. It isn't rocket science.
>uac's and ultras fire even faster
So Rotery Autocannons and Ultra Autocannons have fire rates that are 1500-3000 RPM? How do mechs even remain standing at this point? To me this is a lot of mental gymnastics while the easiest answer is that regular autocannons are single shot, while ultra autocannons are scaled up ARES autocannons and rotery guns are just that.
>AC2
20-50mm, best for aircraft and light targets.
>AC5
75-90mm, long range and multirole.
>AC10
105-150mm, the mainline autocannon for use on mechs and heavy vehicles.
>AC20
It's a fucking wet navy battleship gun, there's a reason why you only get 5 shots per ton.
Ultra/Rotary fire *even faster*. Rotary also is always depicted in art as being large and multi-barrel (a giant Gatling).
>why can you buy AC ammo everywhere
A/C ammo is also low-tech, and can be readily produced even by most frontier worlds. Planets that have trouble maintaining battlemechs can still run tanks armed with A/Cs and a few missiles, plus the occasional energy weapon. Now, a frontier world isn't going to produce enough ammo to keep a RCT supplied, but it can probably support a lance or two.
>Then what is the fucking point of Ultra and Rotery Autocannons then?
even more dakka. They're multiple bursts going at the same time in my understanding of the lore.
>multiplayer
disgusting
Tired of playing only meta mechs

I can understand using Btech as a base off of which to expand, but that looks like ass and you forgot to decompress the laser range.
Bros, I want to read up some good Battletech books, with what should I start?
The Grey Death Legion novels are classics. Stackpole’s Blood of Kerensky trilogy was the introduction most got to the clans. The Jade Phoenix trilogy is a great look inside the absolutely fucked up internal culture the clans have.
Holy fuck that's the one I read Way of the Clans when I was like 10. I got it from our public library because the cartoon was pretty cool. This is probably 1997.
Boy howdy was 10 year old me NOT prepared for the bdsm, femdom, and casual incest.
Don’t forget said femdom was straight shota too. Clan Jade Falcon is fucking crazy.
thanks BattleTech

so got myself a real life falconer Joanna, StarCapain of Clan Jade Falcon

yeah
timba is mah mek btw.
Well done mate.
>femdom
Wtf I love Clans now.
>casual incest
Inbreeding. Aidan Pryde's sibmate (clone sister) deliberately sleeps with him with the intention of getting knocked up because she washed out to the scientist caste and can edit genetic defects out of the child. Aidans daughter drops on Tukayyid with him and witnesses his last stand within the same moments she learns she's his daughter. Clanners have basically no incest taboo at least among the warrior caste, but that was a step further even for them.
>Stackpole’s Blood of Kerensky trilogy was the introduction most got to the clans. The Jade Phoenix trilogy is a great look inside the absolutely fucked up internal culture the clans have.
These are my favorites. BoK I must have re-read like six times. Also I can't remember if it's BoK or the jade phoenix stuff that has all the HOT sex scenes, but those were very titillating to me as a 13 year old nerd and that probably started me down the path of being attracted exclusively to very capable women
This
Then do the Camachos Caballeros trilogy, starting with Close Quarters
The best BT books I've ever read

Lol
t. read way too many BT/MW novels (all of them, actually) as a kid
ComStar is my favorite "purveyors of lost technology" faction in sci-fi
the shit that the ComGuard did on Tukayyid was hilarious, literally tricking the Clans into getting obliterated after they rampaged through hundreds of worlds. the parts in the books where the elementals are getting schwacked with artillery and they're like "Nooooo! This is illegal!!" are great
>noooo this is illegal!!
It's actually the opposite, ComStar declared all of it's assets and capabilities and the Clans agreed anyway, forcing them to commit and agree with everything ComStar wagered, which was exactly the point.
I made an Awesome with a 200 RPM heavy PPC in modded MW5
That does things to a man

I don't want this series to die. Battletech is the last vestige of love I have left for the fictional world that hasn't been fully raped or pozzed all the way yet.
The tabletop is arguably more alive than it's ever been.

you can do that with the pen and paper rpg

it is huge in Germany, they have their own line of original novels and campaigns - the Ronin War chapter of Brush Wars was translated from one of them

Provided that the Clans were superior in almost every way how did they manage to lose in the end?
They weren't superior in logistics, common sense, keeping their egos in check, and (related to that ego thing) recognizing that the clan forced to do most of the heavy lifting against its own political will might not have the best interests of the invasion in mind. Clan Wolf was basically bullied into the invasion and then intentionally rushed it to force the other clans to also rush or else lose face. This caused them multiple fuckups, and some of their biggest advantages were intentionally bid away by Clan Wolf, and since one clan bid them away, all of the clans had to bid them away or else they'd be pussies who can't win on sheer skill.
I mean, the whole thing was down to fucking over the wolves st a game they didnt want to play anyways.
Entire invasion is dependent on the Intel brought almost singlehandedly by Wolf intelligence (which, they are pretty much the only Clan with an intelligence arm anyways), but they are supposed to share all of that with the others?
Wolf Dragoons could have taken a vacation trip to Earth from the start and claim the win.
>logistics
The logistic meme is pushed, Clans had infinitely better logistics than Spheroids outside of specific ground engagements, simply due to how much larger their fleet was. Its only in large scale ground battles in developped systems that spheroid logistics win. And obviously, Tukayyid.
LMAO, no. The whole damn invasion was essentially dependent on what they could load onto their ships for one trip. (The SLDF designing their WarShips to serve as mobile depots with gigantic cargo holds was the only thing that even made the whole attempt possible.) Exodus Road was such a bottleneck that the whole thing was on a timer from the start.
The Feddies and Snakes could lose whole regiments and then just rebuild them and throw 'em back into the fray again. The invading Clans? Every man, every Mech, every autocannon shell and armor panel that was used up was effectively irreplaceable in any timely manner. The moment engagements turned from one-sided blowouts into attritional contests the whole damn invasion was doomed.
> What are all the SLDF Caches?
Mostly gone by that point and absolutely not a relevant factor to cmapaign planning. (Also good luck replacing Clantech supplies with them.)
Jesus Christ lore youtubers have fucking ruined your mind.
A Warship is a logistic line on it's own. It has more cargo space than just about any other ship out there, including cargo haulers.
There were dozens of SLDF caches used as resupply points/staging grounds. That was the Dragoons and Wolfnet's doing.
Sure the Exodus road is a long bottleneck but the simple comparison between The Clan Invasion and Bulldog should fucking show you how much better Clan logistic was.
>A Warship is a logistic line on it's own.
It's not. It's a depot. Depots are finite. The Clans tried to wage an invasion with their industrial base months upon months of travel away from the frontline and nowhere near enough shipping capacity to establish a permanent supply line. What they brought in the initial push in their fleet's holds was effectively what they had to fight with, because the trickle coming down the invasion route after that was little more than a rounding error and utterly insufficient to keep up high-intensity operations.
And yes, the logistical masterstroke that was the preparations for Bulldog - which led to unqualified success in all of the operations's goals - does stand in stark contrast to the shoddy and insufficient logistical planning and hopeless optimism of Revival that doomed the invasion before it had ever begun.
Inner Sphere logistics allowed them to rebuild their forces and wage a victorious war of attrittion against the Clans. Clan logistics left them incapable of keeping up with that very same war of attrition. QED.

Trashborn idiots suck at real war. Deal with it.
>It's not. It's a depot. Depots are finite
> a moving depot with more maneuverability, defense, firepower and hauling than 99% of ships out there.
> Of which they have significantly more than spheroids.
Ffs just the fact that most military regiments of the IS cannot jump systems on their own and have to rely to merchant ships kills the whole idea of IS logistical superiority.
Then let's not mention the fact that for a while Comstar was on the Clan's side and completely paralyzed the IS.
And it's still a depot. A depot is not a supply line. Of which the speroids have literally orders of magnitude more than the trashborn wannabe ubermensch furries.
>muh merchant ships
Gee, of which the IS has orders of magnitude more than the Clans. Which allows them to utterly outperform the Clans at logistics in every way relevant.
The undiputable fact of IS logistical superiority over the Clans is proven by little more than a single look at the actual numbers of troops in the field, logistical throughput capability and industrial prouction capabilities in play, all of which the IS utterly outmatches the Clanners in. When the other side can bring an RCT for every battalion of yours while you're stretching your logistics beyond their limit, your logistics are just plain objectively inferior.
Trashborn larpers play at being "warriors" in their LARP trials. IS soldiers win wars. And REVIVAL was never anything but a delusional pipedream based on the Clanners overdosing on their own kool-aid. Deal with it.
>The undiputable fact of IS logistical superiority over the Clans is proven by little more than a single look at the actual numbers of troops in the field
Troops that cant move without Comstar's approval. Great.
Because spending a few hundred years fighting small scale wars, and honor duels doesn't prepare a culture adequately for the logistical and cultural strain of launching a massive interstellar invasion of a culture that's been having on and off 5 way super industrial hell wars for 250 years. Having nice lasers and cool robots only takes you so far.
Clan culture is fucking retarded. Imagine if Napolean had agreed to settle all his invasions and wars in one big fight using only a tiny percentage of his overall army and then actually respected the agreement (more or less) when he lost.
Spheroids learned enough of clanners ways to lure them into an ill-defined honour battle which would alone determine who would win. Spheroids the proceeded to use dishohourable tactics like using logistics, artillery and terraforming the whole goddamn planet to get enough small tactical advantages as to pretty much guarantee a win. Wolves won their part because they always had more logistics/intel than other Clans. Bears negotiated themselves a win because they wouldnt quit fighting or accept to die, so the Spheroids offered them victory if they accepted to end the fight, thus freeing troops to send after others. Falcons got the brunt of those and got carried by Aiden Pryde being there, and argued for a draw, since both sides lost so many. Since all the other Clans lost, Falcons were granted their draw.
Wolves forced the other Clans to accept the result, which essentially meant that all the other Clans made them target #1, ultimately leading to the Refusal War.
Clanners are Klingon tier and autistically walked into Comstar wunderwaffe and SRM spam at landing sites.
real king shit
I know that Battletech as a franchise is essentially dead (and a lot of players like it that way because grognards gonna grognard) but is it too much to ask for a fucking setting update or some sort of new chain of events of push the plot forward a bit?

Where to find people online to play tabletop BT with?
Please no reddit type places I had bad experiences with Delta Green
There's a battletech general thread on /tg/.
Try there.
Look up the MegaMek board on the official BT forums. There's a sticky thread listing dedicated servers, and another listing MekWars servers.
Yes, MW5 launched as garbage. Yes, mods help but it's still not good enough. Additionally, Armored Core 6 is coming out later and hopefully will be a superior mech game. Unless you have Daishis and/or Atlases, you're not gonna make it Space Prigozhin.
Being an Elemental pilot seems like it'd be a lot more fun than having to deal with the bullshit that comes with Mech piloting.
Gotta be very few things that match the absolute chad status of nabbing a 99.9% intact mech like a Stalker after peeling up the cockpit hatch and just small lasering the driver in the face. Claiming an entire intact assault as isorla is a flex.

Hunchback, my beloved.
Best Hunchback and why is it the one with a bazillion medium lasers?
In the early days of mwo when there weren't so many mechs me and some friends ran a Lance of hunches we called the pain train. Two laservomit and two of the dual srm6 boys split between the shoulders. It was fucking hilarious. We'd line up single file and just run headlong into the nearest atlas, guy up front would topple him over and call a torso part to focus on, and the 3 behind would just nerd circle the fucker. It was absolutely savage. Funny as fuck.
That was a fun time, but my fondest memories are of the top-attack LRMs and getting my clan to drop as LRM boats while my self and another guy went on spotting duty.
It’s not a Hunchback if it doesn’t have a bigass gun. Otherwise it’s just sparkling laservomit
Whats his end game? Window jump or polonium tea?

I think it's not unreasonable to say that Clanners are OK at logistics, but the nature of the invasion meant that they had to pack a LOT of supplies for one big run. They simply didn't pack enough supplies in the same way they didn't pack enough troops, they vastly underestimated the Inner Sphere. Saying that they're better than the IS at logistics is taking a look at a feat that the IS has never had to attempt but the Clans planned to do for hundreds of years (invading from the deep periphery), pointing at it, and claiming based on nothing that the IS could never do something like that.
>and claiming based on nothing that the IS could never do something like that.
Clan JF alone has more hauling strength than any IS military faction. I dont think you understand how much fucking bigger Warships are to regular ships.
>but the nature of the invasion meant that they had to pack a LOT of supplies for one big run
They had a supply line. Ulric literally played the other Clans in not using Warships so they could be relegated to logistical duties (and to further fuck with Crusaders in general and JF in particular).
Ah yes the brilliant logistical strategy of sabotaging each other for internal political reasons.
>Clan JF alone has more hauling strength than any IS military faction
Comstar. Plus, having lots of hauling capacity doesn't make you good at the art and science of logistics, it just means you can brute force it, which is what they did.
>Ah yes the brilliant logistical strategy of sabotaging each other for internal political reasons
Ah yes, because the Spheroids totally didnt assassinate the leader in charge of the invasion halfway past the point of no return along the Exodus road...
>Clan JF alone has more hauling strength than any IS military faction.
As shown by them running into the limits of their logistics capability while supporting a military that is dwarfed by even the CCAF.
>muh Warships
The average Clanner WarShip could be able to transport twenty times as much as an Invader with a couple Mules (it doesn't btw, it's closer to 4x; and let's not evne talk about bigger cargo haulers than the Mule), and that still leaves the Clans with orders and orders of magnitude LESS hauling capacity than the IS.
Having a dozen supertankers doesn't mean you're suddenly better off than the guy running a fleet of hundreds of Liberty Ships.
>They had a supply line.
A supply line implies a logistics network capable of CONTINOUS THROUGHPUT. And the supply line down the invasion route was utterly pathetic and insufficient for what it was supposed to supply. One big load taken along on the way in doesn't change that. Everyone can spend years and years to amass one big starting stockpile. Real logistical strength is in being able to keep flooding in more materiel even after your initial built-up stockpile is running low in the face of continous attrition.
By your definition of it, Imperial Japan had marvelously great logistics in the Pacific War. LMAO.
LMAO. Both incorrect and not even trying to actually adress the point anymore. PS: The invasion was dead long before Tukkayid. All the phone company did was make it end with a bang instead of a whimper.
And yet that IS invasion succeeded utterly, while REVIVAL not only failed utterly, but was doomed to fail utterly before the first shot was ever fired.
SERPENT for all its imeprfections showed nigh-infinitely greater operational and logistics planning skill, unity of command, sound decision-making and choice of goals and just all-around strategic competence than the clownshow that was REVIVAL. And the results show it. Deal with it, trashborn.
>Having a dozen supertankers doesn't mean you're suddenly better off than the guy running a fleet of hundreds of Liberty Ships
It does when you dont own those Liberty ships, you fucking retarded lorelet. Go suck Big Red's leafy cunt of a dick you stupid fuckface.
