Man, imagine this in 5.7x28 instead of its current meme outdated chambering. It would be the perfect pack gun.

I understand that you cannot finance centerfire pistol chamberings because you spend your free time here instead of hustling and contributing to the world. I forgive you.

        >wowweeee imagine if [manual action gun] was in [oddball special forces military cartridge]!

it would just be .17HMR or one of the dozen other small, high velocity varmint rounds.

17HMR would be a significant improvement over 22LR in many ways but still suffers from an unreliable priming system.

a reliable priming system is not why you want a 5.7 boltgun. you just want to be a sneaky stealth archer guy

it's garbage in blowback guns, like the 10/22, would make the gun larger, the magazine larger, the recoil spring heavier, and the whole thing way more expensive.
just buy a P90 instead of ruining a good gun.
btw, how many 5.7 guns do you own?

Look into .221 Fireball and maybe you can find something to satisfy that. Remington made the XP-100 bolt action handgun (basically a Rem 700 pistol?) in .221. Might be able to build a .221 rifle but you'd have to modify a .223 mag to feed probably (.221 can be loaded from shortened .223 cases). And at least you wouldn't have to deal with the inability to reload and the silly ass straightwalled polymer coated cases. Not the same thing but something close that I'm surprised isn't more popular, especially for fox or something. Imagine a bolt action with a shorter action than a full size .223 but with more power than a .22 mag or .17 HMR AND it can be loaded for.

        [...]
I have been waiting for something like this in .17hmr for years.

You've been waiting for years yet don't even know about Volquartsen???
        https://volquartsen.com/departments/17_hmr_rifles

Didn't the first two have OOB or KB issues or something?

The Ruger and maybe even aftermarket .22 mag ones apparently blow extractors into outer space on a pretty regular basis from what I understand which is a shame because a .22 mag Ruger is a fricking neat idea. Also yeah IIRC semis of .22 mag or .17 have issues opening too soon when there's still pressure in the barrel/chamber. I believe it was problems with semi .22 mag pistols and semi .17 rifles.
