M60 lifespan just got stretched into the 2040s with a new upgrade pack that Turkey, Brazil and Taiwan will be getting. Patton is going to be the first American tank series to hit 100 years of active service.

Still find it funny that Turkey didn't just send theirs to Ukraine in exchange for more modern platforms and 'goodwill' from various Western states. Also what is Egypt doing? They have the 2nd most M60's after Turkey iirc.
Yet when Russia does it you laugh. Curious.
the M60 upgrade package is explicitly for export to countries that cant afford actual MBTs
and its important to note they actually got upgraded
slapping a civilian thermal sight to a T-55 is an order more ghetto than a comprehensive upgrade package that leaves nothing but the hull exterior and suspension
especially when the country in question is supposed to be the second best army in the world
I don't actually, I love seeing old equipment get modernized.
Gotem
The difference is that Russia doesn't have anything better.
>he hasn't seen the new T-90M they've made
I saw the turret
I haven't seen the Armata either.
Soon, grandpa will have TWO ladas
>”2nd greatest power in the world”
>comparing themselves to Israel and Turkey
Megalul. Dumb homosexual nagger monkey
One side is desperate, the other side is stingy. I hope this goes on until we see rusted out T-34s without gunsights vs M-3 super-Lees.
Russia refit packages for their old tanks are nice, the problem is how rarely they're actually applied. Usually they just drag out a T-62, replace the bare minimum parts required to get it running, slap some kontakt on it, and call it a day.
tr gave free tb2s to ukraine though and all of that fundraiser shekels that baltic countries raised for tb2s given to ukr.
>Still find it funny that Turkey didn't just send theirs to Ukraine
They are planning to put this turret and upgrade kit on T72s. I think that is what they'd send it.
what is Egypt doing?
nothing they are at peace
Turkey has been supplying Ukraine with constant TB2s, bombs, missiles and armored vehicles.
Egypt and Israel want nothing to do with Ukraine because they're all in on le multipolar bear world.
i always found m60 sexy but this upgrade pack is just straight up pornography
I appreciate that they are continuing to support these legacy platforms, but holy shit that turret looks like crap.
i, for one, think you should make 5 more threads about it
Groofy T90MS looking ass
Are there any improvements made to the frontal glacis?
Yeah. The final production version will look like this.
Fuck that’s kinda sexy
KINO
This looks like a Leopard 2
>gets blown up
>vatniks claim it's a Leo 2
>when it's a M60, heavily modernized
its honestly really cool. i wish more countries would do this with more equipment. modern tactikool aks and cold war tanks with ERA is actually my favorite aesthetic.
Model companies may have jumped that gun already.
>Be me.
>Stationed at Scumfilled Barracks, mid-late 70s in (heavy) Maintenance Company WAMFEO !
>25th Division has M-60's and Sheridans.
>Improvement Modification comes.down to replace gas-fired Continental V-12s with Diesel engines.
>Big-ass shipping containers with replacement engines, takes like a week to do each one.
Not my MOS, but got to watch major wrench-bending.
They still had gasoline AV engines into the late 70s? The AVDS diesels had already been around since the mid 60s I thought.
Maybe we were late to the party, (being 'overseas') but I distinctly remember the Continental logo on the valve covers.

Thusly.
The gasoline and diesel engines were both made by Continental. They were actually related architecture too. The M60 and Sheridan always had diesels. The M48 had the gasoline engines at start but was upgraded to the same diesels as the M60. The M103 got upgraded to the diesel AVDS engine later in it's life too. You can tell it's a diesel M48/M103/M60 based on the large cooling deck and grille at the rear of the hull. M48 and M103 did indeed switch from gasoline to diesel halfway through their lifespans.
Gasoline M48s had a rear deck and ventilation system like this. The rear of the gasoline M103 looked similar as well.
No, the whole buzz in the shop was the changeover from gas to Diesel.
The M60 never had a gasoline engine. It was specifically designed to house the AVDS diesel series after the army preferred the diesel version of the M48 over the gasoline versions.
You weren't there, so fuck-off.
The M60 was designed from it's onset with a 105mm gun and a Continental AVDS V12 diesel engine. You are probably thinking of the M48 which was upgraded from gasoline to diesel halfway through it's life.
Probably he's thinking m48a5
I know a guy who served in the 80s who still had jeeps lying around with barely painted over WW2 stars. Units on the ass end of the priority list had some wildly outdated stuff up until Desert Storm.
Mexico was still using Greyhounds built in 1945 right up until 1995. They had modern diesel engines, electronics and stabilization. No reason to get rid of old stuff if it still works.
3rd ACR had M151 jeeps up until 89. I think we did the ROPS kits in 88. In 86-87 A Trp 4/7 Cav in Korea had the M113/ITV and M60A3 as the vehicles.
Imagine if they built a new hull too.
