Marine Corps m249s were old busted as shit by the late oughts, Then some genius decided we should make every man in the rifle squad a potential SAW gunner.

explain how an IAR is better than a basic bitch longer-barrel AR15?
piston is a meme. a 16 inch mid gas barrel is the key, not H&K
Didn't even need mid gas. The RIS II and the SOCOM profile barrel worked well enough.
Yeah, I mean, they were a bit trash when I was in. But it seemed like the 249 was fine. Would have personally preferred if they just got new 249s as it's belt fed. But hey, what do I know. Now I'm in the Guard and we have 249s anyway, so I still get to have a range day with one once a year.

this was cleaerly just a way to replace M4's without having to go through process
while I'm sure at some level they did replace saws for the most part the m27's have been put in conjuction with saws. Its also easier to tell congress "we need new machine guns, the old ones 50 years old and doesn't work because blah blah blah" than "we need to replace every rifle with something else because grunts cant clean them well enough and theyre too long also theyre only 20 years old"
haus occasionally drops 16.5" hk barrels.
brownells has the upper/gas block/bcg/piston set
europtic sells the cog + dot
hk parts may have the stock
the rest can be supplemented with ar parts
>create a program to replace the main battle rifle >cancelled >try again >cancelled >try again >cancelled >ok i give up, let's pretend we're replacing the m249 >approved and funded
ladies and gentlemen, our defense procurement process at work
Oh so that's why they called it the Next Generation Squad Weapon and not the Next Generation Infantry Weapon. God the pentagon needs to be hit with another plane or ten for being so dense
armory lost so much shit each year.
Just buy a MR556 and put bayonet lug on it.

sustained fire, DI guns are meant to be rifles, IARs are meant to be one step below a SAW
shut the fuck up
What was so wrong with the 259 that they moved to this?

What do you mean exactly? I was told (casually) that it was to replace the SAW. Anyway, it was still M16A4s at that time for many units.

This. The recon units even bought some 11.5 barrel 416A5 uppers.
>every rifleman is a SAW gunner
but why?
Just join the marines and "lose" your rifle.
no but you can buy the MR556
you just gotta buy all the furnture accessories seperate for $700 :^)

They're ok, albeit heavy.
Didn't get the KAC QDSS...

Isn't this just an HK416?
Yes. And it was a terrible decision.
Consider pic related.
