Wow, that's the fifth time they've claimed full occupation of Ivanivka this week. And they even manged to get another cluster of six houses in the Donbas after several months of fighting and losing tens of thousands of men for it.

Yeah, I guess you could be sorry for these russian losses. But nah, the ziggers deserve it and worse besides.

I found Ivanivka (Kharkiv Oblast) on google, and you can almost fit the entire village in a single screenshot and still be at a scale that allows you to clearly see individual houses.

There are 9 total early warning radars (that i can find anyway) 4 UHF (-DM) radar (the one that got hit a few days ago was this), and 5 VHF(-M/-VP) radar

There's 1 of each in range of Ukraine (UHF in Kalningrad and VHF around St. Petersburg not sure if this one is in range tbh) before they need longer range stuff

Yeah, absolutely. The warning component of the system is uses visual/auditory signals that are chemically chemically actuated. It employs one or more tube-shaped amplifiers that maximise the directionality of the primary sound wave, combined with small stoppers that ride the primary sound wave out of the amplifier and proceed down the amplified direction creating their own sound wave lateral to the primary one. The stoppers also carry a chemical compound that briefly illuminates the path they have travelled and sometimes an additional electro-chemical system for visually and audibly marking the approximate location of the detection in real time.

On detection by a late warning radar, the system orients its amifier tubes to the detection and generates a low-frequency-high amplitude auditory warning signal usually at around 170dB and 30-90hz, visually indicating the current direction of the threat and providing maximum auditory warning to areas between it and the location of the detection.

What we should do is a peacekeeping operation in Ukraine - nothing too serious on the front lines or anything, just move US troops along the Belarusian border and the Russian border so the Ukrainians can focus all their forces on retaking territory, we establish a no-fly zone, and we put our own troops something like 10km back from the eastern front so if the Ukrainians do have to retreat further, the Russians can't push without attacking US troops; when the Ukrainians do make successful advances, we move our troops up behind them so the reclaimed territory is safe. We also station troops around important Ukrainian factories and military installations so the Russians can't strike them without risking attacking us.

So, about that Washington Post story from a few days ago, Ukrainians reporting that Russian GPS jamming has severely degraded the usefulness of various systems. Specifically GMLRS rockets and Excalibur shells are reported to be essentially useless. JDAMs have been patched and sitting at around 60% accuracy. But they also report that for whatever reason ATACMS is still accurate. So what’s going on? Is it just that ATACMS has a very large area of effect so even just INS is good enough to get them reasonably on target and have their intended effect?

Also I’m super curious so to why Russian AD is failing so hard. Are they in fact much weaker in AD then what we’ve been led to believe ie after redeploying so much to cover Moscow and critical areas around the country they simply don’t have enough coverage to avoid being saturated? Is there a weakness in S-300/400 which is being exploited? Are they running short on interceptors? Up until now Russian AD has never been truly tested — EW stops most drones and SHORAD deals with the rest (Pantsir), maybe Tor etc but against ballistic missiles and high-altitude threats at range and high speed they haven’t had to deal with much of that up until now?

GBU-93 is also mostly immune to jamming (too small)

ATACMS has a better INS system, there's a reason they cost a million per shot and GMLRS less than 100k.

      Anonymous

Most of the atacms we’ve sent are early INS guided, cluster bomb seemed versions. They aren’t as accurate in ideal conditions as cheap GPS guided munitions, but it doesn’t really matter when you coat a 400m2 area in submunitions

      >why Russian AD is failing so hard
Pretty obvious the ongoing Ukrainian SEAD/DEAD campaign has worked and Russian AD is absolutely suppressed. They're probably not turning on their radars often and when they do the target's already on top of them like that S-400 that got nailed. Any stationary radars like the early warning systems that could possibly be looking at Ukrainian airspace seem to be the next priority target.

Actively hunting down enemy AD systems is a critical part of those shiny new F-16s lasting more than 5 minutes in contested airspace. As is poking the enemy's eyes out so spotting the F-16s is harder.

It's been a pretty interesting campaign. Usually you'd expect a gorillion HARMs to be lobbed at anything that might possibly be emitting but the widespread use of drone recon has allowed MUCH more effective use of regular weapons like ATACMS against AD forces. They don't even have to be turned on to be spotted and it's pretty likely they'll be found just due to the sheer number of recon drones flying around looking for important things to hammer.

As per usual when anything important gets hit, yes.

How many S-400 and S-300 they even got?
They can't have thousands of S-300 in reserves like they do with old soviet shit, right?

          Anonymous

At most around 60 launchers for S-400 (before any loses in this war) but they have maybe 1000 S-300 launchers.

the S-300 is even WORSE than the S-400 against non-ballistic threats. the only thing it'd maybe protect against is jets and even then i can't imagine those commanders will be eager to turn them on for SEAD to see them at that point.

And meanwhile in reality, those "useless GMLRS, Excalibur and JDAMs are still erasing targets by the dozens every day. LMAO.

Russian EW is a meme, and just as worthless as the rest of their vaunted air defense. Pantsir hasn't been seen on the frontlines in months.

That plus another nuclear war radar got hit again I think. And a gas station with RU equipment parked on it got hit with drones inside Russia, killing a employee of the emergency situations ministry and maiming some others.

The only people who get invested in this slavshit are morbidly obese geriatrics from AR15.com or scrawny homosexuals from reddit. Both are stupidly ignorant cowards so of course they believe anything they are told, and cheer every video of an artillery shell explosion as a war winning turning point, wattles of fat quivering under their chins as they flail their stubby T-Rex arms around their bloated fat bodies or limp wrists flailing as they squeal and shriek about their new lace panties. Normal people look at you and all of the slavic pigpeople with equal disgust.
