well conscript army is gone - plus most of those are replacements of post-soviet gear for existing units...

leopard2 is fine but autism of its producers means its easier to buy Korean as they can be modified and produced locally instead of waiting for literal decades in line of countries that want upgrade their leo2 fleets...

It's supersonic and the Polish version should be AMRAAM capable, it's a nifty little spiritual successor to the F-5.

I mean, even the Polish MoD knows that this jet is a piece of shit gap filler only viable to support F-16s, but we can get it fast and cheap, so sure.
We need some filler until we make a deal with SK for KF-21.

It's not so piece of shit when it easily licks the Gripen when in full capability.

            Anonymous

Its a solid supplemental fighter and a lot of nations want it

Argentina wanted to buy the FA50 to replace the Dassault Mirage but the UK blocked it due to an arms embargo on Argentina, the FA50 uses British ejection seats

Uzbekistan wanted it also but the US blocked it due to security issues as it was deemed to dangerous to sell to potential Russian allies

The F35 is obviously the most desired jet fighter but for most of the world that can't afford several squadrons of the F35 the FA50 is actually the most popular in the world today

The Kf21 will fill a role as an advanced fighter that can operate in coordination with the F35, F35 more multi-role, Kf21 better at air-to-air

Poland is basically gearing up as if they expect a war with Germany and Belarus at the same time. I wonder if they know something we don't.

More that Poland no longer trust Germany to help them arm themselves and provide parts and ammunition when war with Belarus or Russia ever starts.

German MIC might want to produce and sell all Poland would need but German government in unreliable. Better to shift to domestic production of equipment that is based on one from a country that doesn't suck Russian dick.

German defense companies can just open Polish branches. More than just allowing them to work more freely with Poland, it will also allow them to work more freely with the Nordics, France and the UK. Not to mention it would allow them to more freely export to hot spots around the world.
It's time to reverse the brain drain since the SPD seems so hellbent on catering to vatniks, luddites and hippies (seriously, even the Greens turned out to be more pragmatic).

German MIC would love to get the tank and SPG contracts SK is getting, but they would never give tech transfer to them, nor would they be able to produce said tanks and SPG's in time.
The fact Poland got cucked out of the MGCS program only to be offered cooperation again, without any real involvement and with a tank specifically tailored to Franco-German needs should tell why Poland has gone with the Koreans.

It's worse. Poland was looking as far as Italy for joit tank development, then MGCS team immediately pulled Italians on board

Basically this. Poland is seeing how terribly the Germany is handling the Ukraine crisis and realizes it won't get much help from them in defending the eastern border of the EU.

Poland only has LNG terminals connected to Germany, Belarus, Ukraine and the Czech republic. Barring Belarus and Ukraine, only Germany and the Czech republic remain.
Unless you're telling me Poland gets its gas from thin air.

technically Poland has two more pipelines:
from Norway via Denmark and Slovakia

                Anonymous

seaport and internal production can supply roughly half of Poland's demand for the whole year - and its summer time with full storage tanks for winter - probably there is no need to import anything via pipelines at the moment...

They're modernizing the assets they have the most in quantity.
75% of their tanks, IFVs and SPGs are T-72A/PT-91, BMP-1s, 70s stuff that was never modernized.

I see people try to compare Poland to the French and British army, but both of them have 4x more recon and fire support assets, 6x more APCs, 3 to 4x more helicopters and especially transport helicopters.
I'm not mentioning the air forces.

I heard many Polish tanks suffered from bad maintenance, which came to light in Ukraine. This is probably a Polish reaction to it, so they just throw all that shit away and order new toys.

        >I heard many Polish tanks suffered from bad maintenance
That came up during the I'll fated T-72 modernization attempt. All fitting T-72 went through general overhaul. Ukrainians are praising how well maintained the Polish tanks are.

Yesterday the official representative from polish army agreed to a whole hour discussion about the controversial korean shopping spree and according to him the FA-50 are to be delivered next years simply as a gap filler and later in 2-3 years it is planned to make a fa-50 PL variant with complete radar systems and a lot of new weapons integrated so that FA-50 becomes a proper fighter jet from some semi-fighting training plane it is now. He explained this purchase by that the f-16 are no longer in production and buying used ones would be only possible the quickest in 2029, same with F-35 which is completely bottlenecked with orders from all around the world, Poland gets it's F-35 in 2025-2026 and any next free slots would be around 2030. So Poland is now getting in cooperation with korea as it is basically the only option for quick deliveries, FA-50 has 80% of the same parts as F-16 and the guy said polish pilots are already in korea flying them. It was also said the polish military is looking at KF-21 as possible future jets, Poland agreed upon NATO entry to maintain 198 fighter jet force and conduct air policing so with current F-35 queue it is impossible (also adding F-35 are expensive to maintain). Most likely we will see Poland in the future getting more F-35 which will be partnered with some kind of KF-21 PL

I didn't know F-16 aren't in production anymore, I thought they're still coming out with upgrades because new export variants

      Anonymous

The FA-50PL is not some special variant for Poland, it is the planned Block 20 of which they will buy 36 aircraft. Prior to this, 12 Block 10 aircraft will be purchased for a total of 48. All things considered this is not a bad option based on the capability/price.

Poland will most likely exercise their option for another 16 F-35A once the Block 4/engine upgrade/replacement cluster frick has been sorted out by the US.

Their 48 Block 52+ C/D (36/12) will most likely be upgraded to the V variant, or whatever LockMart has cooked up for a final upgrade.

Lol the biggest arms buildup in decades between a country that is potentially the next likely target for Russia but with the national willpower to actually fight unlike most of Europe being armed by the most advanced miltech with mass production capabilities at near zero defect and /k tards think its like their ww2 videogames lol

Btw looks like Norway is going to be next Poland on the squid miltech

All is running at full capacity, Kraus-Maffei, Rheinmetall, all of them.
Ask the US with their F-35, they have decades of orders queued.
Good for Poland that they could make a deal with the asiatics.
