Literally why nobody uses knee mortars anymore
Imagine the firepower increase if you would give these to just a couple of guys in basic infantry squad

drones
The French still are
Why are the French so obsessed with infantry explosives? They're the only company that still uses both these and rifle grenades. Not knocking them for it because I know the French get into shit pretty regularly, it's just odd to me.
>In effect, he applied the basic principle that was a mainstay of his teachings at the École de Guerre (War College) before World War I: "le feu tue!" or "firepower kills!"
Simple as.
Artillery is the lord of the battlefield for sure. Tanks are technically artillery and tank crews rack up three digit kill counts just like snipers.
Fair enough.
Cost and speed. The US does the same thing and will throw 40mm and shoulder launchers at anything and everything. The "javelin to kill a single insurgent" jokes aren't around for nothing, even if they're not strictly true. Rifle grenades and the LGI let you do that cheaper and more flexibly.
Half a dozen simultaneous rifle grenades to open up an ambush? Give everyone a rifle grenade instead of only using them on the beater rifle. Don't have MANPATS but want to kill a vehicle? Enough APAV40s will fuck up light armor and even some outdated tanks still in occasional use.
it will not be fun for crew of modern tanks either
Yeah? I've seen the actual results for lighter vehicles, so I was confident to talk about them, but tanks aren't really my forte.
They operate in a lot of theatres where dedicated arty support is slow or scarce
40 underbarrel-standalone
commando mortars
This, you give up explosive payload for accurate hits at 300m.
worse than a grenade launcher in every way.
Retard.
I like it, I really do. Idk if it's practical compared to drones and dug-in mortars or rifle mounted launchers, but it's kino. If it has an impressive range then I would buy or 3d print one.
>The noise made on firing is only 52 dB
damn thats quiet
Ammo is very heavy for the effect on target
I think some east euro 60mm mortars like vz.99 Antos Ultralight, LM-60K and LMP-2017 were sent to Ukraine, but I don't see them very often. They seem like a good idea honestly. Probably should be getting sent there in industrial amounts considering how many videos I've seen of oinkers crouching in trenches spamming underbarrel grenades and various RPG contraptions into the sky hoping they fall somewhere near the enemy.
>why nobody uses knee mortars anymore
>Effective firing range (Type 89 shell): 120 m (131 yd)
guess why
Because it's far easier to just give M203s to everyone.
grenade launcher with tangent site does the same but better, lighter, and with more flexibility
>leftist, pro gun control cuck drops new, shitty video where he read sa Wikipedia article
>underage retards make shit thread about it
At least he picks exotic wiki article stuff. Rather that than Booty Thumb tripping over his words to shill some Larp gear or his roid stunted midget homie memeing the most unfunny PrepHole jokes
>leftist
No
>pro gun control
No
>cuck
No, but he used to work with one
>shitty video
Sometimes
>where he read sa Wikipedia article
No. The one time someone tried to prove this it turned out to have been edited after the video was released, and it was probably the guy that posted it.
Daily reminder that anti-gun discord gays routinely pick pro-gun e-celebs to sow disinformation about in an attempt to cause bullshit sectarian conflicts. E-celebs may be overhyped and cringey but they normalize guns to the normies, and that is free help in protecting 2A from infringement. You don't have to like their content, but don't fall for the psyop like this retard.
Half the shit he features is so bloody obscure that he is the one the wiki articles reference. What the fuck you on about
Under barrel launchers fill same role now.
>But muh 40mm
A 51mm mortar has double the effective range or more, 16x the lethal area. 40mm is useful, but its not the same thing.
> LGI F1 has a range of 675m, which isn't a huge increase over anything else in the squad
It really is though. Each 10-man groupe de combat has 1 LGI, 1 DMR, 1 Minimi and 2 AT-4s. Those first three are really the only things that can reach out that far, and neither the DMR or the Minimi have the same effect on target of the LGI. A 20m lethal radius is not to be snuffed at.
I agree commando mortars are amazing but everything NATO is rifleman rifleman rifleman
Like other anons have said, the frogs are the only country still issuing a mortar smaller than 60mm. A lot of countries still use 60mm mortars, I think a lot of those can be used in handheld mode. I think it has to do with NATO standardization on 60mm and the increased use of 40mm grenade launchers which generally have better sighting systems for close range firing. Firing a mortar like that is not easy to do accurately, especially compared to a grenade launcher with actual sights you can put right on the target. The LGI F1 is also less tactically flexible and has a lower rate of fire than a normal 60mm system because it can't be fired with a bipod for proper indirect fire, which limits it's use at higher levels of support.
Also, mortar thread
Also, according to wiki, the LGI F1 has a range of 675m, which isn't a huge increase over anything else in the squad. A 60mm in handheld is something like 1600m which is more than anything at the company level, even 7.62 machine guns. Conventional mode it's double.
>Why nobody uses
Why ESL not speak good
Ukrainians use Polish light mortars rather a lot.
Pain of an ass to aim and the grenade is smaller than what we use for underbarrel grenade launchers.
how is 60mm smaller than 40mm
