>literally the only American manufacturer left who isn't making garbage and/or using imports
How do they do it? I can't wait for them to offer swappable barrels for their single shots.
>literally the only American manufacturer left who isn't making garbage and/or using imports

They make lots of pot metal 22s that have high profit margins, and had a window where they were one of the only US made leveractions available, which speaks to the type of people who buy levergats to begin with. The market really was in their favor. They were then smart and used the profit margins to expand on their centerfire lines including loading gates etc, drawing even more people to their corner. As far as business and marketing goes they're actually quite smart.
>Oh nooo, how can my Henry handle hot .22's?!
Nobody said it was a bad thing, spergie.
Nta but please don't call anyone a sperg, we all are spergs here including you.
Yeah but you're queer.
>Nta but please don't call anyone a sperg
It's just a word anon. It has no power over you or anyone else.
Literally glock of lever actions. If its not broke dont fix it. No evolution necessary just keep putting out quality.
Dipshit, were do i start you are a fricking idiot who is likely a poorgay who doesnt think past a 1st grade level, you are b***hing about a 22. If they made a 22lr rifle with a fricking noveske, criterion, krieger barrel type of setup it would cost so much that youd be b***hing about the opposite what the fuuuck maaan its judt a fricking 22lr theres no reason for it to be so expensive and thats really the cruz of it everything can be extrapolated from this if youre not an idiot. They make something that works and works well is reliable that they dont need to use fn machine gun steel shit for 22lr and 22lr rifles particularly youth models which sre their more popular 22lrs are uhhh usually gifts for kids dipshit they make theres no reason to go balls out and make a top tier 22lr that costs like 700 dollars, if they did nobody would buy that especially not you you fricking hypocrite.
It wasn't painted as a negative at all. Take your pills.
>you are b***hing
Nobody is b***hing, anon. You just have terrible reading comprehension.
Anon explained why Henry was doing well. He didn't criticize their 22s, he just explained why they can be made cheaply.
AMERICANS! STOP BUYING HENRYS!
I am just a simple finnish man and I need my levergat, but you keep buying them so there are non left to export!
I need my .357 all-weather so bad
God damn, I'm going to finally have to buy a wood and steel gun.
>I need my .357 all-weather so bad
Possibly my favorite shooter but I try not to have favorites
Buncha frickin wops selling Black personed up old Marlins.
Are the PCC Henry's really just a 1894c action with a different stamp? Does that mean you'll need to radius the lever's scallop if you want to avoid developing the Marlin jam?
>Does that mean you'll need to radius the lever's scallop if you want to avoid developing the Marlin jam?
What does this mean?
https://www.ktgunsmith.com/marlinjam.htm
dont own one but the frontier 22 with the threaded barrel looks like a cool gun to hunt small game with, also something I would hang on the wall
>henry
>good
Lol
Frick henry and their abomination ugly ass piece of shit guns.
have a nice day lucas

MADE IN AMERICA OR NOT MADE AT ALL BAYBEE
Oh and they also use Wisconsin (slave) labor.
Got their .22 with the octagonal on black friday, loving it.
Will say get some wrap for the actual lever itself or keep an eye on it. Gave it to a first time shooter and p sure the sweaty palms developed a layer of rust overnight.
Lol, I've seen more fricked up Henry's in the past year than fricked up Rossi's. We just had a brand new engraved silver boy get delivered with a cracked receiver shell. We have had two transfer in from Henry, one with a snapped stock, and the other chipped the toe as soon as the dude opened the box. We have had rear sights fall out of the dovetail because they were too loose. I've had more than one customer have their side load gate break (granted, they only just started doing side gates, but still).
This. In current year the best bang for your buck is a Rossi. A lot of the issues you read about on the web are from years ago. Most ppl who got one within the last 2-3 yrs seem to be pretty happy with them.
How far back on the 1892 clones can you mount a magnifier optic? While the idea of a humble gun with irons feels romantic in a way, I've learned my limitations trying to shoot open sights near dark. I have an very light Luepold firedot I want to put on there instead.
I guess I should have included the image to ask if anyone has gotten these to work with magnified optics, or if a Henry or older JM marked 1894 is a better option.
Mine is drilled ans tapped and has a cheap ass walmart scope on it, works perfectly fine even after almost a decade of light use
How? Did you drill and tap the side of the receiver?
IMO putting a scope on a Rossi 92 is total shit. Red dots will work well and its a 100 yd gun anyway as far as hunting is concerned. I tried to scope it with a Vortex scout scope and while it did mount the scope is too long to have reliable ejection. Plus it made the weight of the rifle super front heavy and it was just too annoying. I ended up just putting one of those peep sights that mount to where the safety goes on top of the bolt and hunted with that. Got my deer and its not a problem, though I understand I am losing out on that last 10-15 mins before shit goes pitch black. Go red dot if you must.
Instructions unclear, grabbed an Eotech because it was red and has a dot in the center.
Good enough for govt work.
This anon is correct, I first had the peep but was disappointed by low light performance. The H-2 does pretty well.
With peeps is not so bad I think I will continue using it as the red dot looks ugly as hell and at least on the Rossi it's too far fwd for my liking.
Why’d you kill a female bro ):
Don't worry I didn't leave the youngin motherless.
>the bloody ass
YOU JUST KNOW
Indeed
you can put a red dot or a scout scope pretty far forward
I have a h004. The outer mag tube doesn't seem to be completely sealed, like the seam isn't connected throughout, but it functions fine and it isn't the load bearing part anyway. The only malfunctions I've had with the henry is if you cycle it without spring pressure from the inner mag tube, either due to running the action with the mag tube out or if a snap cap (I don't think I've had this happen with an actual round) gets stuck in the inner mag tube, the gun will jam
I got an octagonal .30-30 and Jesus Christ that thing is fricking unnecessarily heavy. And it tends to catch the lever and kick it open when you load 5. So it's really not the pinnacle of manufacturing. To its credit is stinky accurate with the irons. And it looks good.
>buys an hbar rifle
>bitches about it being heavy
>surprised at the accuracy
the whole point of the octagonal barrels is that they are ye olde timey match barrels. It's why the h004 is kinda heavy too
Even for an hbar. A Winchester octagonal is nearly a half pound lighter.
I have a Henry, but I hate levers so it's a takedown 22.
>hate lever actions
>own Henry's worst gun and one of the worst firearms ever produced
What it like being wrong?
>swappable barrels for their single shots.
>Fire shot
>whew that barrel is really heating up better swap it out before it melts
You load a round in each barrel, stupid.
kek, he wants to be able to change calibers with one receiver like a tompson center
I wish I knew what modifications need to be made to an 1892 so it can feed longer cartridges.
I want it to feed from 1.580 -1.640 reliably, but it is only capable of feeding 1.560 - 1.620(sometimes).
I can hit squirrels at 80 yards all day long with the skinner sights on my 357 lever carbine and I'm a crap shot. I make no attempt to understand this.
skinner sights are good, but annoying to install
I'd like a Big Boy Steel of some kind now that they have a side loading gate.
It's surprisingly hard to find pics of lever actions with LPVOs that aren't Timmeyed the frick out. Which is a shame, because I think the small bell on the front of the optic fits well with the Marlin/Henry aesthetic. Don't think I'll be ponying up for a Razor on a lever action though.
Thats a nice lookin gern mane. Would do similar setup if I can ever afford one. You gonna get a supository for it?
Not mine, just using to illustrate. I got the itch to get to get something that wasn't some form of scary black gun too late, and now nothing with class is ever in stock.
I can't justify hunting with a 1k+ gun while it gets nicked and dinged to shit. Thats why I ended up going with a Rossi. You all must be rich gays or you just hunt from a blind or some shit.
I greatly prefer a wooden dining or coffee table with some dings and scratches, especially in a darker wood with an oil finish. Same for wood and steel guns. If you stain or gloss it, yeah, it's going to look like shit as it wears.
>well loved
>extra value
>buy a nice gun
>use the piss out of it
This is now a lever boi appreciation thread. My win 88 in 243.
That's just a pretty gun.
Should have added .243 Win with iron sights
>noice
Thanks mane. Digging the octa barrel look going on there.
1876 in .40-60
Do you reload?
Yeah, pretty much have to. I inherited this gun and immediately started putting equipment together for it. Lucked out on dies and found them for like, 12 bucks In 2020. Bullets are easier to find, but instill got a mold for them.
I am satisfied with my Henry product
Thats pretty much how I wanna set up my X when I get one.
I've got a .45-70 jm marlin getting that treatment.
>literally mandatory to get because the factory sights suck so fricking much
>still pretty bad when compared to AR sights
>need to file down front post and worry front post is level
>using the gold rear sight without the plastic insert isn't really useable due to glare
>screws are chinesium
>screws don't really tighten down enough on the rear sight, I needed to peen the rear sight to fix the windage
>pretty much destroyed the elevation screw and it is still looser than I like
>annoying to change elevation for different ammos
>rear sight rotates so annoying to line it up square with front sight
>no protective wings
>no markings for windage on the rear sight
>sit kind of high on a receiver that already has issues due to the comb being so low it is hard to get a good cheek weld
and to a lesser extent of an issue
>no bdc
>Kentucky
what?
>he doesn't know
are you saying to do kentucky windage? That is why I am saying the bdc is a nitpick and not that big of an issue, but its annoying to set for different ammos if you change ammo often and there is no reason to not set your sights up so they hit correctly and have to rely on aiming left or right of the target
I thought I was the only one who had a problem with the screws being kinda shitty. Excellent sight tho.
>rear sight rotates so annoying to line it up square with front sight
Doesn't really matter so much because it's a circle and you basically are just making a smaller aperture without buying the inserts. That 3/16 turn before you can't look through it won't really effect elevation either.
the screws they gave me with the section of weaver rail I I got from skinner to put on the barrel stripped out way below the foot pounds it told me not to go above
I really like my henry. Its my most used rifle. It has killed a mountain of rodents and pests over the years.
I stripped the finish off of the receiver cover because I had planned on doing a fake case hardened look, but i like how this looks for now.
Dont mind the dog toy, its an inside joke.
That stripped case looks great man. I might do the same if I ever buy one of those Henry 22s.
Thanks. I soaked it in a gel paint stripper, and then scraped the paint off. Then used mothers mag polish on a dremel buffer to clean up the scuffs and polish it.
I did the wrap myself. Its cow leather with deer skin lace. I softened it with saddle soap and massaged it to get it soft and form to the lever. Its pretty comfy.
Here are some of my other levergats. I dont know if the falling block counts, but its got a lever.
Forgot pic
>a fricking Stevens crackshot
How accurate is it? All I can find is the stupid .32 and other non .22 crackshots around here. Life is pain.
Yeah its actually pretty good for how old it is. The bore is spotless and it locks up nicely. Its a very fun gun to plink with. I have only shot bottles and cans with it though, I havent exactly tested it out on paper targets.
Where did you get the leather for your handle?
rlo
>stripped receiver
I might do this to mine. The black finish they have on the .22s comes off way too easy and I've put big scratches in it just taking the screws in and out. How'd you remove yours?
>Henry
>not garbage
Kek
If you were trying to get someone to consider trying another make, what reasons would you give, and what alternative would be your first pick?
I want a 44 X rifle so bad, ill probably swap out the stock and forearm with a wood one to make it prettier.
You forgot to mention that their customer service is fricking top notch. Any time I have a Henry in the shop that needs parts for repairs, I just give Henry a call and they 9 times out of 10 send the parts to me at no charge.
Why does Rossi think it can charge $300 for its lever .22s when a Henry is only $50-$100 more?
They really upped their qc in the past few years and probably want to try to establish themselves into the same range. I mean there really is not anyone competing with Rossi at their price point for awhile now and I think eventually they would like to be higher up in standing. Probably just starting with the 22 model.
That may all be true, but I still don't understand why someone would pay American prices for a Brazilian gun. Their lever gats were appealing when I could an m92 in .357 for.under $500 but now that they're over $600 I just think it's more sensible to shell out a bit more for a Henry
Yeah I agree. My guess is their execs decided to just start behaving like they are on equal standing is what I mean. I don't know what sorts of subsidies they get from their govt, or maybe selling to americlaps at current volume is offset enough by the lower cost of manufacturing in Brazil.
Imo I think when they were had for under 5 hundo is when you had more reports of poor/inconsistent qc. Once they hit and passed the 500 mark, that was when coincidentally the reports from actual owners seemed to improve. Anecdotal but you get what I mean.
I still want one in .22lr. My state doesn't allow semi auto pistols for hunting for some godforsaken reason despite allowing semis for anything but deer. How I'd mount a scope on it that would function I have no clue but I'd find a way (some kind of L shaped dovetail to picatinny riser?). If it were threaded it'd be twice as nice but I think it'd be more a backup than anything; probably great to carry as a "just in case coyote/fox hunting doesn't pan out" so I'd be wearing ear pro anyways.
Whoops, left something vague. They don't allow semi auto pistols for hunting but allow semi auto rifles for anything but deer.
I want one of the .44-40 Henry rifles for Abraham Lincoln larp
