They make lots of pot metal 22s that have high profit margins, and had a window where they were one of the only US made leveractions available, which speaks to the type of people who buy levergats to begin with. The market really was in their favor. They were then smart and used the profit margins to expand on their centerfire lines including loading gates etc, drawing even more people to their corner. As far as business and marketing goes they're actually quite smart.

Literally glock of lever actions. If its not broke dont fix it. No evolution necessary just keep putting out quality.

Dipshit, were do i start you are a fricking idiot who is likely a poorgay who doesnt think past a 1st grade level, you are b***hing about a 22. If they made a 22lr rifle with a fricking noveske, criterion, krieger barrel type of setup it would cost so much that youd be b***hing about the opposite what the fuuuck maaan its judt a fricking 22lr theres no reason for it to be so expensive and thats really the cruz of it everything can be extrapolated from this if youre not an idiot. They make something that works and works well is reliable that they dont need to use fn machine gun steel shit for 22lr and 22lr rifles particularly youth models which sre their more popular 22lrs are uhhh usually gifts for kids dipshit they make theres no reason to go balls out and make a top tier 22lr that costs like 700 dollars, if they did nobody would buy that especially not you you fricking hypocrite.

Lol, I've seen more fricked up Henry's in the past year than fricked up Rossi's. We just had a brand new engraved silver boy get delivered with a cracked receiver shell. We have had two transfer in from Henry, one with a snapped stock, and the other chipped the toe as soon as the dude opened the box. We have had rear sights fall out of the dovetail because they were too loose. I've had more than one customer have their side load gate break (granted, they only just started doing side gates, but still).

This. In current year the best bang for your buck is a Rossi. A lot of the issues you read about on the web are from years ago. Most ppl who got one within the last 2-3 yrs seem to be pretty happy with them.

How far back on the 1892 clones can you mount a magnifier optic? While the idea of a humble gun with irons feels romantic in a way, I've learned my limitations trying to shoot open sights near dark. I have an very light Luepold firedot I want to put on there instead.

I guess I should have included the image to ask if anyone has gotten these to work with magnified optics, or if a Henry or older JM marked 1894 is a better option.

How? Did you drill and tap the side of the receiver?

        Anonymous

IMO putting a scope on a Rossi 92 is total shit. Red dots will work well and its a 100 yd gun anyway as far as hunting is concerned. I tried to scope it with a Vortex scout scope and while it did mount the scope is too long to have reliable ejection. Plus it made the weight of the rifle super front heavy and it was just too annoying. I ended up just putting one of those peep sights that mount to where the safety goes on top of the bolt and hunted with that. Got my deer and its not a problem, though I understand I am losing out on that last 10-15 mins before shit goes pitch black. Go red dot if you must.

I have a h004. The outer mag tube doesn't seem to be completely sealed, like the seam isn't connected throughout, but it functions fine and it isn't the load bearing part anyway. The only malfunctions I've had with the henry is if you cycle it without spring pressure from the inner mag tube, either due to running the action with the mag tube out or if a snap cap (I don't think I've had this happen with an actual round) gets stuck in the inner mag tube, the gun will jam

I got an octagonal .30-30 and Jesus Christ that thing is fricking unnecessarily heavy. And it tends to catch the lever and kick it open when you load 5. So it's really not the pinnacle of manufacturing. To its credit is stinky accurate with the irons. And it looks good.

That is why I am saying the bdc is a nitpick and not that big of an issue, but its annoying to set for different ammos if you change ammo often and there is no reason to not set your sights up so they hit correctly and have to rely on aiming left or right of the target

I thought I was the only one who had a problem with the screws being kinda shitty. Excellent sight tho.
      >rear sight rotates so annoying to line it up square with front sight
Doesn't really matter so much because it's a circle and you basically are just making a smaller aperture without buying the inserts. That 3/16 turn before you can't look through it won't really effect elevation either.

I might do this to mine. The black finish they have on the .22s comes off way too easy and I've put big scratches in it just taking the screws in and out. How'd you remove yours?

Thanks. I soaked it in a gel paint stripper, and then scraped the paint off. Then used mothers mag polish on a dremel buffer to clean up the scuffs and polish it.

Where did you get the leather for your handle?

I did the wrap myself. Its cow leather with deer skin lace. I softened it with saddle soap and massaged it to get it soft and form to the lever. Its pretty comfy.

      Anonymous

They really upped their qc in the past few years and probably want to try to establish themselves into the same range. I mean there really is not anyone competing with Rossi at their price point for awhile now and I think eventually they would like to be higher up in standing. Probably just starting with the 22 model.

That may all be true, but I still don't understand why someone would pay American prices for a Brazilian gun. Their lever gats were appealing when I could an m92 in .357 for.under $500 but now that they're over $600 I just think it's more sensible to shell out a bit more for a Henry

          Anonymous

Yeah I agree. My guess is their execs decided to just start behaving like they are on equal standing is what I mean. I don't know what sorts of subsidies they get from their govt, or maybe selling to americlaps at current volume is offset enough by the lower cost of manufacturing in Brazil.

Imo I think when they were had for under 5 hundo is when you had more reports of poor/inconsistent qc. Once they hit and passed the 500 mark, that was when coincidentally the reports from actual owners seemed to improve. Anecdotal but you get what I mean.

I still want one in .22lr. My state doesn't allow semi auto pistols for hunting for some godforsaken reason despite allowing semis for anything but deer. How I'd mount a scope on it that would function I have no clue but I'd find a way (some kind of L shaped dovetail to picatinny riser?). If it were threaded it'd be twice as nice but I think it'd be more a backup than anything; probably great to carry as a "just in case coyote/fox hunting doesn't pan out" so I'd be wearing ear pro anyways.
