same. for rifles and shotguns I close my left eye even though all the "elite trainers" say don't. for pistols I just kind of center the pistol sights towards my left eye instead of right and keep both eyes open. frick em.

handguns just blade your stance to bring it over to your dominant eye. instead of squaring up, use a weaver stance and bring your right foot back a bit more and wiener your right shoulder back a bit.

long guns you need to make a choice, either close one eye, or shoot left handed.

Looks like you’ll have to learn to shoot left handed with majority right handed guns like the rest of us, Black person

It doesn't matter. Use both eyes open optics, including irons, RDS and ACOG. Or you can gouge out your eyes and switch them.

    Shoot long guns left-handed.

That dominance test is awful. All it indicates is whether you are tilting your head to bias toward one eye.

Do it with a point that's out at infinity like the moon or a mountain. You will still have one eye dominant over the other.

My shooting instructor was this really old school Finnish army man and he basically just forced me to become a left handed shooter

Cant your handgun to the left and turn your head so your left eye is forward.
For rifles, as long as you're not shooting targets beyond 250yds, you can get away with training through it.
My right eye's astigmatism is less than my left, but I'm left eye dom and a right-handed shooter.

Pic rel is a Top Gun ripoff with Apaches. I think this is the movie where one of the pilots is wrong-eye dominant for the helmet-mounted HUD, so they cover his dominant eye, strap a periscope to his other eye for some reason, and make him drive a Jeep around the base until he gits gud. No idea if this works IRL but it sounds fun so what the hell.

just squint a little or put a piece of tape on your shooting glasses. I used to be left eye dominant but then I got an eye injury and when it healed I was right eye dominant.

train yourself to shoot with your right eye. rotate your head until your left eye can't see the sights, slowly rotate back over the courtroom of a few magazines. if you feel yourself revert, start over. eventually, your brain will begin to default to your right eye.

another way to do it is to start with your left eye closed, and slowly open over the course of fire. you can feel the change over happen, and all of the sudden your sights are misaligned (because they're aligned with your right eye)

just keep training it until you naturally shoot right eye.

I used to shoot weaver because I was left eye dominant, but you can't do that shit shooting uspsa, too many awkward angles, so I had to learn.

I discovered this during the first time I had to train aiming during military. It doesn't prevent you from learning to aim and fire from either left or right, but I did so from left because it felt easier. Service rifle was AK variant so it also felt easier to reload using right arm instead of left.

This shit makes zero sense to me. When I do this it just biases slightly to either the left or the right.

a better way to do it is to move your hands back while keeping the object centered. whichever eye your hands end up in front of is your dominant one.

Nothing fricking happens and I just feel like a moron moving my hands in front of my face.

how can nothing happen even if you do it wrong somehow you will at least end up hitting yourself in the face

Just close one eye? Afaik, the whole "shoot with both eyes open" is primarily for situational awareness. If you're hunting or target shooting, it's fine since you should have ample time to set up the shot. If military, I suppose you just gotta git gud.

Im the opposite, but having shot right handed all my life before even knowing what eye dominance was it doesnt affect anything other than making holding a rifle wrong handed feel really weird

I was given this test 30 years ago when I was first taught to shoot. Trying it now it doesn't actually work. I can move my head side to side and the object remains visible and I can see my vision shift. And whether I go left or right determines which eye the object is clear through with the other closed.
