>launched from 100’s of km away from a stealth platform
>steals all of your ELINT and transfers it back to an AWACS or NCTAMS
>approaches your fleet undetected and is able to not only identify targets but also communicate with sister weapons and decide who is targeting what
>sinks your whole fleet in the blink of an eye
This shit is wild. Between these and the new super duper AMRAAM US jets are going to be dabbing on shits from so fricking far away it’s not even fair.
It's neat to see a AShM that can actually do a proper swarm attack, unlike the bullshit that soviets spewed about Granit that was never even shown off in testing.
You mean it doesn't do the thing where one of the missiles acts as AA bait and another one automatically takes its place when it gets shot down?
Supposedly they fly high until they start getting hit by radar then go low for the terminal phase.
considering that the granit has never demonstrated this capacity even during testing, it's highly unlikely that it even exists in russia. besides, it's a terrible idea when a generic popup search is more efficient and less likely to result in a missile kill
yes, it takes advantage of the inverse square law regarding radar transmission
And it's small enough that it's suitable for swarm attacks. 4 per plane means a squadron could plausibly take on a small fleet.
Yah, they are pretty cool. US Navy is also looking into upgrading the older Tomahawks with better targeting discrimination when used in the anti-ship role.
Wait they can be VLS launched too? Holy shit that's awesome I thought they were airborne weapons only. If you filled a Burke up with those it could spam launch them on an entire Chinese Carrier Group kek
"Can be". VL-LRASM hasn't been procured yet, and the program to buy it (OASuW 2) has been delayed for years due to budget cuts and now appears to be a casualty of the hypersonic meme--the competition was *supposed* to be between LRASM, JSM, and an upgraded Tomahawk, but now there's this HALO thing that might or might not even work, and it's sucking all of the budget and schedule out of the room.
I believe the new block Tomahawks that are dual land and maritime use are the interim solution
You are correct. I believe they also use passive terminal guidance which complicates defending against them with soft kill defenses and detecting their presence passively (read: without turning on your air search radars which also broadcast your location). Aught to be a pretty cost effective and lethal addition to the fleet.
"ought", you aught
A bunch of our subs are getting or have VLS cells too.
almost all of our subs have VLS anon. The LA FLT-3s have 12 VLS tubes plus the four torpedo tubes, the virginia classes have the same loadout
Probably not the unmanned ones, but they're still so classified that we don't really know for sure i guess.
> Project Overlord, an experimental unmanned surface vehicle program, has completed its work and has been shut down by the Strategic Capabilities Office, a secretive research and development organization within the Pentagon, a Navy official revealed today. Its conclusion is a significant milestone, marking a period of transition between the Pentagon’s research and development enterprise and a complete entry into the Navy’s fleet. Overlord, which produced four vessels in total that will be transferred to the Navy’s developmental squadrons
S-400 will stop this
There are more LRASMs than S-400s.
Delusional
Im like 90% sure this is bait but frick it,
lets pretend for sake of argument that S-400 achieves 100% hard kill against LRASM. Are there any warships equipped with S-400 as their air defense system?
If yes, they would be shwacked by attack subs early in a war with the US if they took to blue waters.
If no, the plan becomes what? keep your entire navy within the coverage envelope of shore based S-400s? not a good look in Total war.
Cope
now im certain
>S-400 will stop this
S-400 lights up
> A wild HIMARS appears
> It's super efffective!
You better hope
What the frick has the S400 intercepted that wasn't a passenger jet?
I'm pretty sure there are no S-400 systems strapped to a ship you mongoloid. At best some of the Russian ships have upgraded S-300 based systems.
How much vodka do they pay you guys in? Do you get one shot per post?
gays
>worshipping the technology that will eventually be used to suppress the US population.
Yeah, these drone operators have names, faces, and addresses. Guess who's gonna guard those names, faces, and addresses. Guess who's gonna operate small scale drones in decentralized, plural areas to enforce rules that alienate you from your freedoms.
Good luck stoping any of this with your 9mm with a 4+1 round capacity.
Shut the frick up you fear mongering jackass
go back to your containment board
Our government wants to suppress us, russhits and chinks literally want to kill us all and dance on the ashes of the West. Look at how they fantasize about nuking us.
damn the US government, trying to suppress Johny on his Appalachian farmstead with his Iowa class battleship.
To be fair, this SHOULD be a legitimate concern for american citizen even if it isn't
The stripping away of our right to own ocean going warships is a fricking travesty that needs to be reversed
>Using $4 million anti-ship missiles to suppress the US population
>The government is going to sink all my warships!
>our government needs to be weak so we can overthrow it!
Australia won't be launching them from F35s, only F/A-18 and P-8.
They are using JSM/NSM for the F35
>P-8
she just keeps winning
>launches 12 of them out of the back of a cargo plane
>They can also drop swarms of decoys
This thing and Quicksink are truly awesome weapons.
"Quicksink" sounds like something straight out of an infomercial
>sick of enemy warships entering your territorial waters? Try quicksink!
>Quicksink removes 90% of enemy surface vessels in just half the time of its leading competitor!
>nine out of ten generals recommend quicksink for all your coastal defence needs, call within the next ten minutes and receive an additional missile battery with your next quicksink order for FREE!
>looks up quicksink
I'd say it sunk pretty quick.
you're not often going to have the chance to use something like this against a modern warship because of how close you have to get. but in a total war situation these are insane.
Its still gonna be pretty damn useful as a cheap way of sinking other vessels like landing ships, replenishment ships and cargo vessels
absolutely
It's meant for taking out little shits that aren't worth a real AShM, like missile boats, sub chasers and patrol boats.
hell yeah, and with how cheap they are the decision to deploy them is going to be a no brainer.
I can't help but read that in Billy Mays voice.
>all for just 15,000 easy payments of 19.99
You’re not even old enough to remember billy Mays you tiktok zoomer
>t. Anthony Suckavan
Good one zoom zoom
>Quicksink
Wait, that's what they're calling the anti-ship JDAMs? I remember when they were just trying out the theory to cheaply sink ships with minimum AA.
They somehow came up with a way for JDAMs to engage moving targets without needing course corrections from the launching aircraft or some kind of seeker on the bomb. That's the real impressive part.
I mean, it seems like they've got an optical seeker on the bomb. Still, it's way cheaper than an AShM.
useless against hypersonic missiles
>implying hypersonic missiles are useful against anything that moves.
>chang discovers that a cruise missile is not a point-defense weapon
bravo, I guess
>100km
is that supposed to be impressive?
read the OP again. carefully
yes i read it. so 300km
is that supposed to be impressive?
when you can detect a clean F-35 with a pair of these in its bays at 300+ km you let us know.
No way those fit in an F-35 bay.
You could actually be right, I'm not certain that they would. so swap that out for B-21 raider with a dozen or more of them.
Although being themselves a low observable weapon, having them externally mounted likely does not change the calculus much.
You're misunderstanding. The F-35 doesn't have to carry them. In fact, you can drop a pallet of them off the back of a C-130 and they can launch, link up, recieve orders, and search and destroy. The F-35 just acts as a controller.
They don't. The F-35s would have to engage with JASSMs if it wanted to be stealthy but it can carry 4xLRASMs externally.
They can't carry JASSMs internally, unfortunately. Maybe JASSM-XR will change that.
It's 300 nautical miles. So, it's 555 km on its range.
Holy shit, actual weapons talk on /k/?
>1000 lb blast frag warhead
I fricking love the phrase "unitary blast fragmentation warhead"
Every time I hear it I get all warm and fuzzy inside
LRASM is impressive
>steals all of your ELINT
So the question is - how many of those things can a Lancer carry? 1 B1-B might end up being able to sink an entire surface action group from 500km out kek.
pic related
I see your "bomb truck" and raise you a flying SSGN.
> carries 170 AGM-86 cruise missiles
> carries 4,000 Hellfires
Frick yeah.
this
anon should be more concerned about this aircraft combined with
>Filename
about tree fiddy
Wrong question. How many can a C-130 carry? Follow up question, how many hundred LRASMs per minute can a fleet of C-130s release?
https://afresearchlab.com/technology/rapid-dragon
>frick
Do we really need the planes? Surely there must be some way to fire one of these things from HIMARS launcher
they're planned to be added to the VLS arsenal, Im sure a land based launcher isn't out of the question.
Are anons on /k/ planning to overthrow the government?
No?
The Chinese government?
>yes hello frens where for the day of the rope?
Just imagine a C-5 air dropping a c-130 which airdrops a F-35 which air drops a loyal wingman which airdrops an LRASM which smashes into the fricking bridge of a Chink carrier lmao
Shit like this is 100% suggested - with enthusiasm - deep within the pentagon. Systems on Systems within Systems with special sub-system system management that all align under the system framework. And don't get me started about M O D U L A R I T Y
>FORCE MULTIPLICATION
Imagine a Big Dong-69 destroying that C-5 on the runway
Don't give the top brass ideas anon, seriously...
