This, it could be a planned retreat if the vehicle was close to a wreck, but the thing was completely fine and I really doubt they'd be out of fuel on their own front line.

Few thousands straight up died (or injured). One more taken pow. Few just run away. And the rest is sitting in isolated pocket here and there, pinned down and waiting to be slaughtered in the coming days. Not a precise calculations but numbers more or less add up.

yeah i'm trying to keep my hopium levels low but so far it looks like vatniks are fricked. maybe this time though, they are for real and they're drawing them in? but with what equipment? what ammo? to draw the enemy in requires you to actually have something set up and NATO ELINT has been feeding them real time info the entire time.

What Russian shills won't often tell you is how ridiculously bad brain exodus from Russia was and still is since the start of this mess. There are hundreds of thousands of most skilled, intellectual fields workers who moved out of Russia in these past months, some even say close to million of people. Shortage of goods can be a problem, rising prices can be a problem. But solid portion if not majority of your higher IQ people leaving is how you kill a country.

The bit about Yamantau complex in the Metro lore always struck me as they wanted the cannibals to be the remnants of the monke government but did not want the heat coming with it IRL, so they just replaced them with "construction workers". I remember a line of dialogue in Metro 2033 discussing that if the government did run off to Siberia, they would have turned into cannibals by now.

All the shit in Ukraine since the late 00s has been about Russia trying to control its resources, which make Putin's Russia mafia state based in EU money for natgas irrelevant.

When the war is over and Ukraine finally can export its own gas/oil to the EU, "Russia stronk" will be totally over and forced to become an EU or Chinese secondary state.

They already are. It's gratifying to see what I said about China's non-willingness to help in any serious capacity and constant distancing from any direct involvement or serious indirect involvement in the war with the exception of calling America evil (which they'd do regardless of the war, just more fodder for their media) and sending expired shit in the first few months. A far cry from the shill's delusions of a completely helpful China which might even send troops.
China has its own problems now due to their shitty coof policy shutting their economy every other month, but their "special ally" proved very special indeed as they became an even cheaper raw material market for Chinky as they also sell their consumer drones to Ukraine and Russia can't do a thing about it. I won't call them a winner of the war as they definitely lost allied power projection and their economy failed to serious capitalize on this chance, but seems it was a boon for them.

Yeah China been buying a bunch of grain, fertilizer, gas and crude from Russia at knockdown prices, but not doing a whole lot else. Actually they have a load of DJI drones but they could have been bought under false pretenses of course.

Chang doesn't care about any pretense, they just sell. If anyone gets mad, it's the specific factory's fault and it will be dissolved (and reformed the next day). Russia does know their tricks as they deal with them plenty, but you just can't do anything about it. It's probably one of their only serious allies with India only being an "ally" with Russia due to the threat of China and needing weaponry until they develop their own. Russia doesn't have a lot of useful friends, so they can't risk an angry China.

Kherson is proceeding as they said. It's the method I figured was the most reasonable, and the one I thought they'd use elsewhere. I was dead wrong about the north, but in the south, it's proceeding as described. It's a good method to limit casualties.

Why not create some units of Russian POWs? Provided they weren't rapists or torturers, seems like a good chance to get more trained soldiers

They already have those units. Like you posted. I'm personally more interested in two other groups; Russian Partizans and the Dudayevites. Much of Chechnya still sees Kadyrov as a traitor, and would jump at the chance to fight. It's been propagandized that they might make an attempt, but even without that there's still the Ukrainian Chechen battalions.

Yes this looks bad BUT, this is setting up Ukrainian forces to be overstretched. Russians open a gap, let the forces blitz in, and then form a cauldron. Yes, Russia lost some troops and vehicles but every tank towing a Russian vehicle is one out of the fight. Every Ukrainian mechanic fixing a captured russian tank is not fixing a Ukranian one. Every meal a Russian POW is eating is one less for the soldiers. Russia is wearing down the Ukrainians and it is a matter of time before they spring the trap and close the pocket. I wouldnt want to be a ukranian solder right about now.

At this point it's clear that the whole Kherson thing was to draw Russian troops, destroy the bridges and fix them in place while Kharkiv forces advanced. Likely they are grabbing good positions before the rapubreastsa to hold against the Russians. Next step will be advancing into Luganda.

No. The "Kherson thing" was and is a real offensive. It's just that the Russians withdrew troops from elsewhere to fortify their defenses in Kherson, which CREATED AN OPPORTUNITY elsewhere, which Ukraine is now exploiting.

This was a happy side-effect. The Kherson offensive is still ongoing and taking territory. They are having a much harder time, though, because those were the areas Russia reinforced.

Ukraine is currently mostly rolling up on garbage garrison units that are just running away. The question here is how defensible these gains are against a counterattack by better Russian troops.

But it also shows two things:
    - If you attack Russian units that don't have prepared artillery backup, they seem to spill spaghetti immediately.
    - What Russian Air Force doing? This is basically right on top of Russia, easy sorties for attack aircraft and helicopters. I haven't seen a single report of Russian air strikes to slow the Ukrainians down.

They sent a lot of them down to Kherson to hold it, there's 20k dudes bottled up there getting shot at by HIMARS and 155's for the lulz, that gutted the northern front to the point they didn't seem to even leave garrisons there. Just policing units of a couple of dudes to make sure no one runs off with all the gear
Now they're literally stuck in Kherson and there's really just no one else to come in any numbers for relief to try and stop the steamroller. The Donbanwe front is majorly tangled up in just doing what its doing, Ukr-forces holding ok there as well so they can't back out.

What in the north is just going to have to do, which given their predicament with the supply hub being taken... yeah, they're gunna do a thing!

Yeah, on paper. The war has proven that they're unable to use their planes properly beyond arab tier dumb bomb attacks of opportunity.
Without their own PGM and HARM equivalents to remove enemy SAMs, their planes are just paperweights in a war zone saturated with MANPADs that forbid low level flying.

I still remember when russians were celebrating that taking Izyum, the Gate of Donbass, will allow them to encircle JFO units...

Just imagine how many roosaks died trying to take Slavyansk from there...

      What a disastrous war.

A lot of that JFO is still stuck defending Slavyansk. If Izyum falls, they can finally move forward.

Yeah, yeah, they actually may return to Lysichansk in near future.

You're right, the catastrophic pullout from afghanistan will be a mere footnote compared to the Russo-Ukrainian farce of 2022-23

I am beginning to think Saddam Hussein Iraq would have given the Soviets a good fight even while their troops were shooting Iranians.

The Soviets were a totally different force though. Russia's forces are nothing compared to how the soviets were. Look at their pilots in Vietnam or their help with Egypt in Sinai. Could Russia pull those sorts of situations off now?

If only they didn't cannon'd the septembrists back in the early 1800's, if anyone with a slight brain for a free society had run Russia they would surely be culturally and industrially matched with the west by now

Russia's future is to become a vassal state (or states) for europe and asia as they cave in from utter cultural and economic failure.
