KUPYANSK IN PLAY!

Vatnik sources are having another meltdown, seems the Ukries managed to take or are in the process of taking the EAST bank of the town which is separated by the natural barrier that is the Oskil River.

To brainlets that don't understand the significance, this exposes ALL of the Vatnik held areas back to Severedonetsk, so they establish a bridgehead here, this would compel the Vatniks to fall back and roll back ALL of their gains since June.

For all this time I just thought it was a childish insult to call NATO (which is pronounced NAY-TO) HATO (pronounced HATE-O)

            Anonymous

It's still pronounced NATO. H = N (more or less) in the Cyrillic alphabet. There's actually not really an H sound as we use it in English, but for loanwords they'll often use G. So if they were trying to say HAY-toe they'd actually spell it GATO which obviously an English speaker would then interpret as GAY-toe.

It will be interesting to see where the Russians manage to hold. It's not very defensible terrain beyond a few minor rivers. Moeover there's only one railway line in this area so if they try to hold in and around Svatove or wherever it will be a strain.

If the Ukrainians can slam 3 brigades through here, they can collapse the entire northern Donbas front for the Vatniks, and force them behind the Seversky Donets river.

Yes, but that was in a rather narrow pocket south of the Oskil Reservoir and the Russians have functional defenses here. If the Ukrainians cross further north they can bypass or collapse the Russian defenses and control both banks of the SD river.

If the Ukrainians are only now taking control of east kupiansk then clearly the Russians had functional defenses there as well.

Not necessarily. The Ukrainians simply may not have chosen to advance in force until the consolidated on the west bank. Even if there were defenses they punched through they can now pressure the Russian lines from the west, south and north.

          Anonymous

Yes and no. Yes, rus are defending east side of kupyansk. No, because ukr success suprised even them, and they didn't have reserves ready for a deeper push. Men absolutely need a breather after 72h of assault. It physiological impossibly to be going for longer

            Anonymous

My advice to Ukraine is blast the defending Russians. Harass the enemy with artillery fire, while consolidating gains.

Soften up the Russians so they can't handle a renewed Ukrainian assault.

      Anonymous

      you dum dum.

Lyman is at the crossroad of the roads to kupiasnk, severo and that village between severo and kupiansk.

Russian defenses stopped Ukrainians from advancing through north through Lyman to the bank of the oski's (or straight east to severodonestk) and east through Kupiasnk top pincer up severo.

With one of those two down, the other will fall soon because it's gonna get surrounded, and severo will fall by next week give or take a couple days.

      >but crossing the oski on pontoons!
was nowhere near enough to mount an offensive.

what the fuck are you talking about? lyman is far to the east of the oskil river. the oskil comes out of the reservoir and merges into the siversky donets river, which flows south of lyman.

When only 10% of russian non-nuclear missiles hit their target, that's laughable performance.

But nuclear weapons are a bit different. Even if one single missile of their strategic nuclear arsenal works, that's serious business.

Even juicier, the Ukries are doing a recon in force in the Zaporozhiye area right now as well.

Right now, there are still a few newly formed and newly armed brigades which have not been accounted for on the front lines.

I'm hoping they're probing for a larger attack down to slice the Vatnik land bridge to Crimea.

Take a look at the TO&E of western equipment. There is a lot of shit that has not been accounted for. Counting up everything that has been donated, with what has been observed and accounted for, both lost and simply sighted, and the numbers point to a very, very curious idea.

That's the idea. There's enough heavy arty, trucks, tanks and other ancillary equipment to account for a whole nother third axis. if they're holding it all as reserves, then that's a huge fucking reserve, but judging by the volume of shit that's still waiting to fight they could and might try for an entire third axis of advance.

How do turkeys avoid pecking their own wattle? I never understood it

                >then that's a huge fucking reserve
not really, if you want to fight a protracted dynamic offensive campaign you need a lot of reserves. 1/3 of division tier units being in reserve is pretty reasonable for that. on the defensive you can get away with rotating smaller units within the divisions/regiments themselves far more.

'Working condition' if a relative term for the Russians anon. As long as it can appear to function, then it is considered good enough. Pic related is a comparison between an engineering space on a Russian (Admiral Kuznetsov) Kiev class carrier and a Kiev class that was sold to China (Liaoning).

You can bet that if Russia does call a general mobilisation. Not only will we see every tank museum/monument in Russia emptied, but I would bet a large number of ad-hoc 'tanks' made from welding armour onto tractors and bulldozers.

He can't call for a general mobilization at this point because of several reasons:

        1. Sending the sons of Moscow/St. Petersburg Russians off to die will piss them off much faster than just losing to Ukraine
        2. Sending them off to die with no gear in 1960s era tanks will make the average Muscovite absolute apoplectic
        3. By the time they got them trained and to the front, it'd be well into 2023 and by that point, US Lend/Lease will have kicked in and America will have spent the entire winter arming Ukraine to the fucking teeth

The time for him to have mobilized was at the start of the war, it's way too late now.

Mobilization *might* have helped if they'd done it back in February when the war started. The moment they start getting drafted is the exact moment Russia as a sovereign state starts to collapse. Putin is not going to do it.

Ukraine's current flag is using azure (sea) blue instead of the traditional sky blue.
Similarly, the Ukrainian National Republic (Free Ukraine 1917-1920) used a flag with yellow on top and blue on the bottom for the same reasons I did, to represent the cupolas over the Dnieper.
It just feels like a huge waste to give up on such free and historic iconography when Ukraine is likely going to become a naval power by necessity after recovering Crimea. Signals change, for example nowadays rather than the gold of the Church there is likely to be more iconography with sunflowers.

Shipbuilding industry creates jobs and skills for Ukrainians.

Ships built create maritime trade, creating income to support a navy.

I think there may already be pilot crews looking at different tanks, but because these are big ticket items, even if they're getting them for free, they're probably being more selective about it.

I also think they want the Leopard 2, but because Germany is run by fuckwads and Europe in general have lowballed their militaries for a while there aren't enough Leopard 2s just sitting around (or the right version of Leopard 2) to realistically equip a meaningfully sized unit.

It's all good to talk about Polish and Czech T-72s, but those things were either obsolete and/or being backfilled themselves.

                1) they probably are

                2) Soviet tanks are glorified medium tanks, and there's only so much you can do to upgrade them. As cool as a fleet of T-84-120s and similar conversions to T-72, going forwards Ukraine probably wants tanks with real fucking protection and better technology as part of the actual design and not slapped on later.

Murica has thousands of old Abramses and is building more that the Army doesn't even want, purely for the sake of keeping the production line from being dismantled. I would be genuinely surprised if they didn't start sending them in October when the actual Lend Lease bill goes into effect, using crews that were training since summer.

Assuming Ukraine even considers fighter jets as a priority, the best option is still the three way trade where Poland hands off its legacy planes. Unfortunately for SAAB the poles are too intelligent to want the Gripen.

I'm not sure anything fit for inland sea use would be bluewater approved. Negotiated docking rights in Bulgaria would be practical since Bulgaria is a NATO country. In the worst case, the ships would negotiate a stay of use (to keep out of the war) instead of being sunk, WWII style.

      >"The world went to ruin, but the fucking Russians just won't leave us alone. Just because our hearts have grown cold, doesn't mean Vatniks can't try to possess our home. We had hope for eternal peace. But the Russians still try to make us deceased."

      >bro this hatchback could totally work as a gun truck. I'll lift that suspension up a bit, you can just stand in the back with the 240, we can even fly the colors if I chicken wire it to the clothes hanger thingy. It'll be sweet.
Seeing all the wacky fucking vehicles people rig up during a war made me realize that every culture must have it's own version of the guy who lives in the inexplicably poverty-tier poor corner of town and owns at least three racing lawnmowers.

Can't wait to see the inevitable Prius Technical, able to start in cold weather with ease.

        >But the clincher is the Prius’s reliability. Ulaanbaatar may be the chilliest capital in the world. On a winter morning drivers must sometimes start their cars in temperatures below -30°C. Cars that run on petrol and diesel tend to sputter and die at such temperatures. The Prius can use its battery to power its electrical engine until the car warms up enough for the petrol engine to run smoothly—saving many a Mongolian from freezing frustration.

Mongolia doesn't have an electricity grid?

How far will the Ukrainians push the Russians back? I don't think the Russians have the power to halt their relentless advance.

Especially if we double-down on support.

If they're smart they'll push the Russians out of Kharkiv Oblast and then consolidate. Overextension could fuck them just as easily as it fucked the vats at Kyiv.

I only ask one thing of Ukrainians back.

WHEN the day comes when America needs help in a war with the fate of our national existence at stake, Ukraine intervenes (indirectly, of course, as we did. Fair is fair) with military aid but not ground troops. A favor for a favor.

It may not happen for many centuries or so. But that day will happen one day.

They're almost certainly joining NATO after this. The ask will probably be less cooperation with China.

Dude, they're gonna be training US troops back for decades with first hand experience dealing with drones and plains warfare, and they're literally killing Russians (Your enemy) for you with very little American blood spilt.
If I were a burger, I wouldn't worry about it, you're getting the war that effectively kills Russia as a viable threat for 30 years for a fraction of the cost of an invasive style proxy war like vietnam or Iraq.

I'm just hoping we get a relationship that is as tight as our alliance with Japan. We've got too many chickenshits in Western Europe, lol.

(Seriously, how the fuck is the Gripen NOT in Ukraine yet? You had ONE job Sweden!)

If things have gone so tits-up that America's own existence is at stake, Ukraine probably wouldn't have a choice about being involved.
But I'm sure they'd be all too happy to help.

Russians losing the will to fight huh?

Bribe the Russians at Kherson to surrender, whatever it takes. Taking the city is worth the transfer of funds.

I mean as glorious as taking the city by force would be, it would still take a lot of Ukrainian lives in the process. Better to get the Russians there to just give up.

The fall of the city would send a shockwave throughout the entire Russian invasion force.
