    I'm sorry Patriot.

Honestly though forgive me for being a dumbgay but is it wise for the Ukrainians to reveal how exactly they shot down the Kinzhal? Is there any tactical advantage to keeping the capabilities of the Patriot a secret so Russia can be surprised later on?

What more surprise can there being after their 'invincible' weapon was shot down.

And besides, what are they going to do? Shoot another one to take out the patriot?

Russia has to have some strategic ELINT abilities. They would have intercepted the various radar signals and known what target tracking and missile guidance took place on the intercept. That would tell them what SAM system was used to shoot it down.
      Then again....

Kek. I'm not surprised. It's hilarious to me that It's been known for years that Kinzhal isn't special and doesn't incorporate boost glide tech, yet it was shilled as the unstoppable wonder weapon to destroy any IADS. Now they're using the argument they've shilled so hard against to justify it's interception. Fricking priceless.

      > Probably everyone in Kiev heard this insane aerial kaboom that night, like when something hypersonic with 1000lbs warhead suddenly and violently deconstructs mid-air.
I believe i heard it. Could be wrong, but it was unlike everything i've heard/seen since beginning of the war.
Early 4th of may, air raid alert sounds, and almost immediately after(usually for Kh missiles/Kalibrs or drones its an hour-couple of hours, if there indeed were launches) it begins - some sort of distant AA gunfire, couple of booms from different sides(maybe launches of something?), sequence of explosions in the air, regular stuff.
And then there is two bluish-white flashes somewhere above(i am being moronic, looking around from the balcony instead of going to the shelter/staying far away from outer walls), i dont see the hit/explosion itself but it illuminates surrounding area and some time later the sound arrives.
Loud indeed, but unlike "usual" explosions which sound/feel like much louder rolling thunder, it sounds really "sharp" and quick - like a clap, or snap; and immediately after there is slightly quieter firework-like crackle. Maybe it was the hit itself, maybe "deconstruction" of the kinzhal, cant say for sure.
And thats it, everything goes silent.

Pretty much what happened. Patriot is hit-to-kill. Whereas a proxy-fused, large warheads would go boom loudly if it actually intercepted the Kinzhal, it wouldn't necessarily produce the "smack" of two objects moving at high speeds actually forcefully connecting, like you would likely have with hit-to-kill systems. The firecracker noise was probably secondary "explosions" of the debris of both vehicles.

We're getting a double whammy of angry ziggers and wumaos since their lies about the effectiveness of supersonics are being destroyed in real time.
Especially wumaos because the entire point of supersonic missiles is to destroy the US fleet before they can intercept any crossing of the strait. If patriots can defeat them then they have no fricking chance.

I posted this in the other thread about the Kinzhal intercepts. PAC-3 was successfully tested in mock scenarios and the surrogates used had the Pershing II MARV and very high descent speeds. The successful intercepts you hear about when the US tests it's BMD systems usually end up killing a terminal maneuvering RV flying Mach 8. PAC-3 MSE is likely much more capable.

They are deployed in Poland and Scandinavia for jets and missiles, as well as tactical or strategic nuclear attacks. They are deployed in Israel, where it is called the Iron Dome, but not in Palestine.

You might be thinking of David's Sling. It's roughly a patriot analogue with a different radar and the stunner missile. Israel does have patriots though. Iron Dome is a separate project geared more for SHORAD/CRAM. The Tamir missile is a lot smaller and lighter than PAC-3 or stunner

        >hypersonic impact
It's intercepted near Kyiv. Could've been launched from Belarus and just started accelerating meaning a supersonic interception.

  26. 11 months ago
    Anonymous

The PAC-3 is heavily geared towards ABM duties. As the Kinzhal is an air-launched ballistic missile, Patriot will be effective at intercepting them. Once again: Russia and China are calling ballistic missiles "hypersonic", while such missiles are dealt with by matured, effective ABM systems.

Calling ballistic (and semi-ballistic) missiles "hypersonic" may be TECHNICALLY true, but ballistic missiles have been hypersonic since the 70s. They aren’t very accurate but that’s not a problem for a nuclear payload; I wonder how accurate these "new" ballistic missiles are. My guess is that they can usually hit a large building but will struggle hitting a compact target like, say, a bunker entrance, or any kind of moving target.

      Anonymous

"Hypersonic" is exclusive to MaRVs like Donkeyfeng 21 and ramjet/scramjet cruise missiles. All ballistic missiles are hypersonic so nothing special about them to talk.

"Kinzhal" is generic name for any dagger. This generic name itself likely originates from that thing, but nowadays it describes a class of weapons not this specific one.
Baselard is kinzhal, dirk is kinzhal, tanto is kinzhal, stiletto is kinzhal, katar is kinzhal and so on.

You know everything in weapons technology is a tradeoff. Especially when you get to the actualy high end of things.
And the west decided that agile manuverable and hard to detect missiles gives more advantages than verry fast and clumsy missiles.
And from the looks of it that was the right call.

Thirdies seem to assume the US military can do anything, and when they see something fail, they scream like apes because they think that it’s a major problem rather than someone using equipment outside of parameters or just an error

Thirdies also don't understand that failure is part of advancement of scientific knowledge and weapon system performance. They expect instant success from every new thing western armament industry comes up with, which is a bit flattering, but also fricking moronic.

I really do find it hilarious how it’s seemingly expected that any US weapon system should be perfect, though I think it’s a defense mechanism for helplessness, and for that sweet dopamine rush they get when it isn’t perfectl

It's not cuckoldry, it's avarice, pure and simple. They understand see the superiority, the understand it, but it's not just that they want it for themselves. They want it for themselves and they *despise* whoever currently wields it in place of themselves. For any number of reasons, they grow deeply, deeply convinced that it's something that *you* don't deserve but *they* do.

It's lowkey the number one reason people should never fricking want China or Russia in a position of global leadership. America didn't really *want* that, but these people badly do and have whole power fantasies that entail vengeance and subjugation that surround getting it.

    This reminded me of something
    >Putin got asked at a press event in March why they didn't go in on Ukraine in 2014, instead giving them 8 years to prepare. He answered that their hypersonic arsenal wasn't ready yet. Girkin straight up said on his podcast that Putin needs to keep his mouth shut, as even at the time this was seen as a very bad answer.
That response is even more hilarious in light of this shoot-down. Absolute clown show
