Metric is for laboratories, imperial is for real life. All imperial measurement units are designed to be able to be approximated, even without tools.

The only reason you think that is because you were raised on imperial units. Anyone raised on metric units will find them the logical easy to use units for everyday life that are easy to estimate without tools.

September is more realistic and even then I only expect them to start pressuring the city itself by then. Ukraine is good when it's striking from a distance or harassing armor in ambushes but the Donbas has shown that they really struggle on a frontline against artillery spam. Stretching too thin was Russia's biggest mistake early on and everything suggests that Kherson will, if nothing else, be a Mariupol situation where Russia has thousands of troops tied up preventing them from making eastern gains.

        Anonymous

I'm not a vatnig or demoralization shill but I'm getting more and more pessimistic about their chances. They're dependent on the West, and everything the West has sent is "too little, too late." HIMARS was great but they sent it too late, and to take Kherson the Ukrainians can't just HIMARS it to rubble, they need guns, ammo, body armor, food, and armored transport for their troops, none of which has arrived yet and which is only trickling in.

I don't care any more.Ukraine isn't going to beat Russia, so I want NATO to declare offensive war on it.. I don't care if they nuke us. I just want those fricking vermin to be smeared ASAP, I'd rather the entire planet be destroyed than share it with those savages.

          >they need guns, ammo, body armor, food, and armored transport

Nato needs to do more obviously; better weapons and the training to use them, more help with Intel and logistics, a commitment among members to increase production of depleted stocks for both ukraine an nato itself - all this needs to happen now, especially with the threat posed by China. I think the next few months are crucial, that getting that level of commitment from nato now is key to the resolution of this conflict, that it has implications for western security going into the future also. I'm hopeful we'll get through this, would advise against defeatism - not easy if you're here all the time. And no, you don't want nukes really...

They just won't take Kherson ma dudes. This fricking counter offensive is the slowest counter offensive ever. I also like how they keep postponing the big CO. First it was beginning juli. End of juli. Now end of August. Don't get me wrong i think they could do it of they we're willing to commit a lot more men to it. But they are doing what Russians are doing in the donbass. Which is frick all. This pace doesn't scare the Russians or take them by suprise.

Time is on Ukraine's side so long as they can suppress the Dniper crossing points. Every day Russia fights in Kherson without a solid supply line, they get weaker.

This; its a war of attrition, a waiting game; Everyday Ukraine holds while chipping away at supply lines and ammo depots Russia gets just a little bit weaker.

It's only getting stronger though. Every day it's building new industries to make itself even more autark. Soon they'll be able to extract their resources, refine and process them in their own country, and sell them to friendly states only while the west is going down due to a shortage of essential materials. Oinkraine has until the end of the year, then they'll simply and rightfully end.

American media is now run by the children of the rich who were either too much of a failure or too woke to get a job in mommy and daddy's big company.

Getting back to modern day, if the Russoids can't establish new bridgeheads or crossings to get across the Dnipro any chance of continuing their advance will stall out. In fact, their whole war effort might come to a halt with Putin suing for peace and trying to keep his gains.
However with the entire international community (save China and India) enraged at Putin and Russia I doubt anyone would be willing to let any new border be at the Dnipro.

I think you misunderstood. They're trying to avoid alienating either side here, which means playing a balancing act.
Russia is an important trade partner for China, and India was buying a lot of Russian military hardware. They're probably regretting that one. Regardless, they're trying to maintain the relationships they have with the west while also not losing the positions of strength they have with Russia, which only works if the Russians are still willing to play ball.

Small arms, webbing, uniforms, etc are probably the easiest and least controversial thing NATO can supply the Ukrainians. Right now, the war has evolved into an artillery duel with a bunch of drunk vatBlack person conscripts who are just desperate to not get raped today. What am I looking at?

Ukies were smart so far and mistreating POWs would be pretty stupid, thats why you see vatnik shills trying so hard to bury this castration story. What Ukies should do is just get those specifically responsible and deal with them, while treating ordinary POWs okay so that they would encourage Russian soldiers to surrender more.

        >Ukies were smart so far and mistreating POWs would be pretty stupid
Why? If they didn't respond it would be worse. I would castrate 2 russian pows for 1 Ukranian to show this as a bad practice. Anyway Ukraine has more pows than russcum.

          Anonymous

because that makes soldiers less likely to surrender if they know they will get their balls cut off. As Ukraine you want Russians to surrender, not to fight to the bitter end. This castration story actually benefits Ukraine, as bad as I feel for the poor guy, and returning the favor would dismiss this advantage.

            Anonymous

Correct, but now russian soldiers are terrified they'll get their balls cut off if captured.

              Anonymous

I guess the only advantage for Ukies would be that Russians being terrified of captivity would just avoid the fight entirely and run away but imho I dont recall something like that in modern warfare. Soviets were pretty harsh for German prisoners during WWII and it didnt make Germans run away from them. This Russian brutality is imho not a cunning strategy but simply their barbaric nature, same as stealing washing machines or shooting old people on bicycles. I doubt Russian troops really consider long lasting effects of their actions.

                >Soviets were pretty harsh for German prisoners during WWII and it didnt make Germans run away from them
There's more than a few stories of German units making mad dashes to surrender to the western allies rather than the soviets. For example there was the Battle of Halbe with the German 12th and 9th armies trying to escape to surrender to the Americans across the Elbe rather than the Soviets at the cost of tens of thousands of dead.

People have been suggesting it's a Psyop, and that could be true, but I'm not sure.
I think it's more likely that the russians would see any advance and know it's coming anyway. Typically the only things that get out are either leaks or things the enemy is already expected to know.
The russians would have likely seen the build-up of forces, and the shelling of the bridges is a dead giveaway of the ukes intentions, so much so civilian commentators were speculating it was the prelude to an attack. No point in keeping secrets if the cats out of the bag.

Not happening. Russian army is stronger than ever, while ukrainians are losing 1000s of servicemen every day. They can't win Kherson back, especially now that people in Kherson already accepted that they belong to Russia.

A referendum on the accession of Kherson and Zaporizhzhya to Russia will be held in September, like it or not. After that, these regions will officially become Russian property. Ukies won't do shit about it, because declaring war on Russia and stepping on our territories will be a suicide for them. It will cause immediate Russian response in form of tactical nuclear strikes on decision-making centres (Kiev, Lvov, Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa) and general mobilization. After that, Ukraine will no longer exist.

          Impressive.

With this most recent achievement, fate has, in a single stroke, marked the decline of the West and spelled a new era of wondrous prosperity and global peace for the Russian bear, which promises to stand in sharp contrast to the historically inconvenient ascent of Western democracy and its cruel limitations on the oligarchs of the world. The blessings of sugar payment plans, Slava class submersible cruisers, quantum Mach 1000 mallbuster missiles, Poseidon tsunami torpedo mockups, and S-400 self-homing air defense systems will be the instruments by which Russia affirms its noble stewardship of 21st century world politics and offers non-Western oligarchs a different option: an illiberal alternative to the hassles of Western democracy and the opportunity for a more profitable and secure multilateralism

            >Why would they have to declare war on Russia if they're invading? Russia didn't do it either.
Russia is fighting for the sake of helping people of LPR, DPR and ordinary Ukrainians who are tired of being oppressed by the criminal Judeo-Nazi regime of Zelensky. They want to live with Russia and in Russia, so there was no need to officially declare war on the Ukraine.
Now, if the Ukraine wants to step on Russian territory, it has to declare war on Russia and somehow justify it.
