1st line is your worthless meat, wanger-convicts, conscripts and other annoying degenerates that need to die
2nd line is your worthless meat that's capable of following orders, they shoot the first line if they try to run away
3rd line is the blocking force that shoots the 2nd line if they try to run away

      Multi-layered blocking troops? Holy shit.

      1st line of conscript
2nd line of career soldiers tasked to shoot the 1st line if they retreat (but for this they would need to not be black out drunk)
3rd line is tasked to loot everything that isn't bolted down before they inevitably retreat.

If Kherson is taken it's over for Russian expansionism for decades.
Not getting Odessa is a complete failure for Russian grand strategic goals. Leaving Kherson now will make it nearly impossible to reconquer it again for a long time.

Russia is going to be BTFO over this for the rest of the century IMO

Reality is chaos. I'd rather not try to predict anything past 20 years into the future.

I mean Ukraine crumbled with Crimea 8 years ago and now they are doing decent enough. I just don't think marching into other countries works out too well these days; otherwise NATO buffs the hell out of whoever you're marching into.

If the whole of Kherson is taken you mean. I see a lot of hopium here on /k/ about how inevitable it is, but I don't think Russia is going to give up the rest of Kherson. They are likely just going to flood it with enough soldiers that they'll be hard to remove no matter how poorly trained they are.

        I meant the city.
Taking the whole oblast would be difficult af. No way Ukrainians would get over the river easily. They'd have to start a big offensive from Tokmak and they'd have to start it right now. Otherwise taking the oblast will have to be postponed until next summer likely.

Winter is coming. Are Russian supply lines to that front secure enough to keep a very large conscript force on the front lines through an Eastern European winter?

      Nah.
They'll have muh land corridor and celebrate it as a victory for decades if not centuries.
For Russian expansionism to get a kick in the nuts, what is needed is a thorough dismemberment of the Russian military OR for the west to get their heads out of their asses (e.g. the current boom of prosecutions against Russian assets in the USA must keep going until they bag some congressmen from both parties).

Russians leaving Kherson also means the ukies cutting the fresh water supply to Crimea, and getting close enought to shell it. Added to the Kerch bridge being btfo, it means checkmate for the russians there in the long run

What happens if Ukraine does eventually snag Crimea? More specifically, what about the Kerch Bridge connecting it to Russia?

Does Ukraine keep it and maintain guards, or destroy it to reduce the connection to Russia?

The crimean bridge didn't exist until after the 2014 russian invasion, and was sold by the Kremlin in propaganda as a big deal to make the place "fully russian". So it makes sense than the ukrainians will totally destroy it to make Crimea more interlinked with south Ukraine and give the finger to russians.

Nothing untrue is surprising. Kherson is getting liberated soon, even the Russians aren't arguing.

yeah, you cant pull off the humvee trick twice i would guess
and despite all the memes ukraine really doesnt have any advanced weaponry at all
attacking heavily fortified positions with light infantry or 60 year old tanks isnt a good idea

I'm just putting down a marker here, but I have a funny feeling that a UKR breakthrough in Gina Gerson will kick WW3 into gear for real, not this current kabuki theater nonsense.
I guess a lot depends on getting those chip fabs in Phoenix up and running.

I go through VK, TASS, RG.RU, KyivPost, MoscowTimes, Aljazeera and Telegraph.

None are perfect and some are pretty disgusting straight propaganda at times [KyivPost and RG.RU], I like the mix. What's your newssource?
