First time I bought 5.45x39 was a spam can of 1,080 rounds for $180 back in 2011 or so. The state of 5.45x39 now makes me seriously depressed.
That being said, the AK didn't get good until the AK74. I have more 7.62x39 AKs than 5.45x39 AKs, but 74s are just better in every way. ARs are still objectively better, though. Just don't have as much soul.
Wish I bought a 5.56 AK kit instead of another 7.62. Convenient as it might be, I got another 7.62x39 kit since it feeds from my single ammo pool.
I stayed away from 5.56x45 AKs for years because I was convinced the straight walled cartridge would be less reliable than 7.62/5.45x39 and I regret not at least buying a $250 Saiga to convert when they were so plentiful.

Depends on the folder. They're not all the same. Some lock on both sides, some only lock on one. The best ones are also in line with the action rather than angled down.

MP44 had most of those features aside from the folding stock, but it did have a scope mount early in its design,

Garand was not designed with a gas piston, the M1 is a shit rifle and they had to redesign the gas system, which they copied off the AVS36

The caliber was just a copy of the german kurz and it's easily the worst intermediate cartridge in the cold war with low lethality, crappy ballistic and trash magazines. And of course the AK is trash after the first shot.

.300 Blackout is not an improvement to the AR platform, and 7.62x39 is not similar but highly superior to .300 Blackout.
One of the worst things are the kalash is that it is not standardized. Every AK has an ethnicity where it can only exchange those parts with. This type of manufacturing is preindustrials and should have gone away with a long time ago.
