KAC or Geissele Uppers?

I am looking at getting either a URGI/Super Duty or a KAC SR15 upper.

Not considering price, which is better and why? Argue away, I am here to learn.

KAC regularly lets duds out as well so the 2000$ QC doesn’t really buy much

My lower doesn’t even drop PMAGs freely, and I have had malfunctions with the upper. It’s also not even gassed that well.

Every company produces and ships duds

The issue is I’m not entirely confident KAC will fix my dud.

It straight up will not freely drop PMAGS, which I feel is unacceptable for a rifle that costs 2100$ when I had purchased it. The malfunctions I’ve had have been sporadic and difficult to replicate reliably, I have shot brass and steel through it and I have more issues with brass ammunition, which is noticeably overgassed.

Have you identified where it is being held up at? Possible the mag release is seated too deeply, ez fix. If machined too close tho..:(

I haven’t really looked too much into it because it’s not my primary rifle. What I will say is that I don’t really care why it’s hanging up, I just care that it’s hanging up. It’s a ridiculously expensive and overhyped rifle that came from a KAC authorized dealer and doesn’t run reliably/has QC issues.

I’m only putting this out there so people understand that even spending thousands on firearms doesn’t guarantee you’re going to get a good product.

To put this into perspective, I trust my frankenstein rifle more than my KAC.

Yeah but straight from their mouths they say the pricetag is due to the QC. They are not using any different materials or any better tolerances than anyone else. Only material improvement is they are using whatver Chrome formula or double chrome shit FN created.

QC can take you from 1/100 defects to 1/1000 defects to 1/10000 defects to 1/1000000 defects. But it can't take you to 0 defects, there's always SOME chance of a frickup.

I've owned two KAC SR15s and currently own a Super Duty. I really like them both. I prefer the super duty's upper in terms of function.

I am aware than in earlier URGI the barrel finish was shitty but the current production ones have fixed that issue, have you experienced any performance/accuracy differences?

Yeah I have the shitty finish. I have yet to experience rust but I wont deny black oxide is an inferior choice. I don't have any comprehensive graphs or lab (range) results ready to go, but I'd say both brands produce quality rifles and quality lemons. If I was to offer any guidance on your behalf, I would tell you to get whichever upper receiver you personally prefer. Maybe get the cheaper one and use the left overs for accessories or more ammo.

Geissele, no question. You get a standard parts upper that was built to military specifications, tested by crane and accept widely available parts should you ever want to change something.

KAC is proprietary bullshit no one really needs.

I would get a URGI or a DD. Easier to replace the barrel and bolt since they're generic. Have fun buying a Knight's bolt at a 500% mark-up on gunbroker.

If money isn't being considered maybe OP can afford a KAC AND an ACOG.

I have watched a ton of videos and read product descriptions, but what is down on paper isnt always what is best in the real world, but I thought I would come hear to get perspective that is not that of a youtube homosexual

what is the difference in barrels?

DD barrels are extremely nice. I don't have experience with Geissele to comment on their barrels.
        >What do you mean by nice?
Good accuracy. My two DD barrels shoot around 1moa with good ammo. Good finish, gas port is drilled properly. They also last a long time due to the chrome lining. It's basically getting everything you can ask for out of a barrel except extreme precision that Geissele or Knight's doesn't offer either.

from the sounds of it the DD barrels and G$ barrels provide no advantage over each other, they are both chrome lined, both have pretty much the same gas system, and both are superbly accurate for my purposes, so i guess it would just come down which bolt/handguard I like better

1MOA with decent ammo is all most people will need, and is likely more accurate than most people are in most scenarios, if you have a 1MOA gun there are few factors that will result in a miss that are not caused by the shooter or weather conditions

Acknowledged. I figured I might as well mention they're not the go-to for something like high-power, where they're using cut rifled bartlein/kreiger stuff. For everything other than accuracy focused completion, a DD is more than enough.
