Bad in warthunder you mean to say. Biplanes chew it up in a furball. Only good for catching people unaware or hunting heavier craft.

Isn't it beyond pathetic that the only fun you can have in this game is Tier 0 - 3, after that everything turns into shit. And the worst part is that you can't even fight any historical compositions of fighters.

That, and the only fun vehiecles are meta ones. The game is designed to frustrate you. Officially there is no matchmaker, but I susspect there is one. It's good enough to give the top 5% of gigatryhards who can snipe you from 1,5km at any angle a good time. And make new players stupid by not giving them a fair chance at learning what works and what doesn't work. 2-3 Lv 100 players and the rest are Lv 9-60, every time.
I luv me Fw-190D, but even tough I got a few aces I still have no idea what I was doing right due to br compression, the increased player count, the map size favouring planes that perform well under 5km, the single spawn per match gimmick and every plane having a built in FBW system (mouse controll).
Like I have no clue how to win in ARB as germany, and every time I won, it was because we had 2-3 tryhards carrying in non german planes.
Also Gaijin did an excelent job at redirecting the frustration of players away from them and at other players, so people will say shit like 'bUt geRMz DeSErvEd It' because they have an OP tank in GRB and the decision to have that tank be OP is on Gaijin not the German mains.
I uninstalled, downloaded flyout where I can make my favourite planes, Naval Art where I can build my favourite ships.
Gaijin will never ever fix their game.

The real fun in this game is in Sim.
              Sad it's "dead"

Honestly, I've been having the most fun flying weird planes. The Ki-45 with the 20 mils angled 45 degrees up has great performance, plus once you get the ballistics and ammo consumption figured out it's 37mm autocannon is great.

I tried to gunboat with the Ju-188. Really fun and actually a viable strat since you have that 360° turret with a 20mm.
It turns well, is fast, prety nimble as long as you take minimum bombload. Not like you would accomplish much with a full bomb load to begin with.
People tend to go after you no matter what and will hang behind you since they get pretty confused when a bomber turn fights back and guns them down in a turn.
All was well until the matchmaker figured that I would do well as fodder for J2Ms and P-38s.
I also discovered that the ammunition in warthunder is terribly designed. One time I tried to bait fighters to follow me so my teammates would have an easier time.
A Spitfire sniped me from 1km with a single 20mm round. Where? The tail section of the plane. It riped the whole tail off. With ~9g of TNT eqiuvalent.
So I looked at the damage model in the hangar with the new function of that fragmentation round I presumably got hit by and it turned out that it behaved like a nuke. The rest of the ammo belt with that frag round might aswell not be there with how little damage.
So when the spit pilot pulled the trigger he was badically gambling that that one nuke round would hit me.
You can go into the hangar and check this yourself to see how your guns perform.

I installed warthunder on PS4 because I missed World of Warplanes & there's no console version for that, pretty much as soon as I tried flying planes in WT I decided the game is garbage just for how fricked-up the controls are.

        >Biplanes chew it up in a furball. Only good for catching people unaware or hunting heavier craft.
it's a mid-30s monoplane fighter, and a heavy one at that, it has no business going against biplanes in horizontal fight where biplanes excel, Buffalo's strength is in a dive, the FiAF's "rocking chair" -tactics didn't come from nowhere.

Buffalo was equivalent to the Wildcat in most respects. The fact that Grumman actually built and delivered thousands of planes and Brewster didn't is the biggest reason.

It did well against Russian pilots, that could just about fly back and forth in a straight line... The M2 medium of the skies I guess.

it offered sufficient performance on the Eastern Front that Finnish pilots could choose their fights & by the time they were replacet the FiAF pilots were skilled enough to go full on Marseille-right-before-he-was-killed in Simmer 1944.

The US was years behind at designing good cowlings but years ahead at engines.

Why was the Mustang a piece of shit until they slammed Spitfire engines in it then

You can have that if you admit that the engines were better when built by Americans. Including the Merlin.

Allison P51s were perfectly decent at the roles they'd been designed for, the combat environment had simply drifted into requiring higher altitude performance than had been called for. It wasn't the engines that were the problem (they worked fine when pair up with a decent turbocharger), it was the lack of a multi-stage supercharger

        Except it wasn't.
The performance on the Mustang took a hit in lower altitudes.

It was pretty alright at time of creation, but it suffered from being in the early days of a developing tech field. Today, 20-year old designs are still competitive, but back then things were refining so quickly that even 5 or 10 years difference was a massive tech gap.
